chapter 3 ~ Leaving The Nest

"Bye Declan! Bye Nurse Joy!" Our trio of heroes called as they walked out of the Pokemon Center, Eevee calling out goodbyes in her language.

"Bye! Let's battle next time we meet!" Declan replied as Clover and Athena, who were on his shoulder and lap respectively, motioned in goodbye.

The doors of the Pokemon Center closed as Lilli sprinted ahead, Eevee in their arms.

Turning around, they exclaimed, "Let's get going! There'll be a performance in Aquacorde soon!"

"That means we'll be going through Santalune Forest!" Taylor exclaimed, as she had a deep appreciation of nature.

She started running ahead.

"Hey! Wait up!" Lilli exclaimed, chasing her.

From behind, Rachel sighed before running to catch up.

While the trio walked down the path leading to Santalune City, a Fletching fluttered by and, mistaking Lilli's brown hair for a nest, flew onto their head and fell asleep, somehow managing to not get noticed.

"Hey look! It's a Flabébé! I'm gonna go battle it!" Taylor called out from ahead.

"Hey, Lilli, do you mind if I go with her? Just to make sure she doesn't do anything..." Rachel trailed off.

"Stupid, which causes her to accidentally injure herself? Yeah, I don't mind." Lilli replied as they watched Eevee chase a Caterpie.

With that, Rachel followed Taylor as Bulbasaur and Riolu decided to pop out of their pokeballs. Eevee ran back towards the trio, purposely smacking Lilli with her tail. Lilli stuck their tongue out at the normal type in return. They continued watching as the three Pokemon continued interacting, not caring to overhear their conversation. After a few moments, Bulbasaur wrapped one of her vines around Lilli's arm and pulled them as the trio of Pokemon ran ahead.

"What are you guys doing?" Lilli smiled fondly.

"The Caterpie I was playing with said that there was a Fletchling this way looking for another Fletchling and I saw the Fletchling on your head!" Eevee shared.

"Huh?" Lilli questioned, "There's a Fletchling on my head?"

"Yeah! It's been there for a while now!" Eevee shared.

"I guess I'm too used to random Pokemon flying onto my head." Lilli sighed, smiling.

"That happened a lot?" Bulbasaur questioned.

"The flying Pokemon at the ranch often took naps on Lilli's head." Riolu shared.

"At least, when I wasn't running errands." Lilli smiled.

The group of four continued walking for a bit, chatting. After about 15 minutes, another Fletchling gave out a shriek as it descended, landed on Lilli's head, and started pecking at the original sleeping Fletching, waking it up. The original Fletchling started pecking back at it and Lilli, noticing the behavior, spoke up, "Hey! Maybe you two could solve this problem somewhere other than my head?"

They held both their pointer fingers out, allowing the normal flying types to perch on them. As it landed on their finger, the original Fletchling spoke, "Sorry about that... I didn't mean to sleep on a human's head. I swear, I'm sorry!"

"Don't worry about it! I'm used to it!" Lilli smiled back.

"You should be sorry! Could you have imagined what would have happened if this human would have chosen to catch you? My baby would be gone forever!" The other Fletchling cried, "You're not ready to go out on your own!"

"How many times do I have to tell you, I want to see the world! Plus, I was able to fly almost to the Lumiose! Surely I'm ready!" The first Fletchling exclaimed.

"Well, I may have considered it if you DIDN'T FALL ASLEEP ON A HUMAN!" The supposed Mama Fletchling chirped.

"Well this human is nice so why's it matter?" The supposed child Fletchling replied.

"You know better than to think that there are nice humans!" Mama Fletchling squawked, "You know what happened to your father!"

Eevee and Riolu, who along with Lilli and Bulbasaur had been very quiet during this discussion, immediately spoke up in humanity's defense. The only reason Bulbasaur didn't as well was due to her rather timid nature.

"Lot's of humans are nice though! Like Lilli and Taylor and Rachel!" Eevee exclaimed, practically bouncing, "Lilli always brushes me and gives me food and plays with me and is my best friend! And Taylor and Rachel are nice too! And... even though there was that guy that stole me once-"

"I don't think you're helping your argument." Riolu interrupted as Lilli eyed Eevee.

"Anyways, besides that guy, and the other guy, and the other other guy, most humans just want to be our friends!" Eevee concluded.

"You have to remember you're viewing it from a standpoint of a Pokemon who hasn't left Lilli's side since the both of you came into existence." Riolu pointed out before turning towards the Fletchling pair, "See, shortly after I hatched, I was abandoned, supposedly because I wasn't shiny. I was angry at humans for quite a while before I came along to the ranch they're from. Noticing humans and Pokemon getting along so well, I observed them for quite a while, up until those two were attacked by some Beedrill Eevee couldn't defeat, when I interfered. Observing the ranch is what really allowed me to replace my trust in humans though. Like Eevee said, most just want to befriend Pokemon, even though they'll always be a couple of bad apples. Don't let those few cloud your judgment. Besides, you have been trusting Lilli to not shove you away since you showed up."

The Mama Fletchling blinked, absorbing the information, as the original Fletchling hopped back onto Lilli's head.

"You like it up there, don't you?" Lilli questioned the flying type.

"It's surprisingly comfy." It replied.

"But that doesn't change the facts..." The Mama Fletchling sighed, "I suppose everyone else is right. Maybe I do just need to get over it..." She turned towards her kid, "I guess, I'm just worried one day you'll be ripped out of the sky and I'll never be able to see you again..."

"Hey! What if we race somewhere? If you win, I'll stay, if I win, I think I'll go with this trainer if they'll allow me. They've been really kind to us." The younger Fletchling suggested.

"I could go stand down the path and whoever reaches me first could be the winner." Lilli suggested, "And we'd love you joining us, right?"

Lilli's Pokemon all smiled in agreement.

"I accept." Mama Fletchling spoke.

"Bulbasaur, would you mind using one of your vines to make a starting perch? And Riolu, would you mind signaling them for when to start?" Lilli asked.

The two Pokemon nodded and Lilli gave them a thumbs up in return.

Scooping up Eevee, they spoke, "Thanks, guys!"

With that, they ran down the path, back towards Lumiose. After running for a bit, they stopped as Eevee climbed onto their head.

Meanwhile, Riolu counted down, allowing the birds to fly off after the go that followed one.

"We should follow them... shouldn't we?" Bulbasaur spoke up, "So Lilli doesn't worry?"

"Right." Came Riolu's response.

With that, the two Pokemon started chasing the flying types.

~~~
The Mama Fletchling began with the lead, constantly glancing at her son. The younger Fletchling didn't even spare her a glance as he continued flying, more determined than ever. They passed by many Pokemon, including an orange flower Flabébé, which the Mama Fletchling ended up running into, knocking it out of the sky, and separating it from its flower. Squawking, she came to a halt as she flew down to check on the single bloom Pokemon. Her son used this as an opportunity to pass her up. Seeing this, she made sure the Flabébé was as good as it was going to get without its flower before flying off, continuing the race.
The younger Fletchling, meanwhile, continued off until he ran into a branch, allowing his mother to retake the lead. Making a quick recovery, he continued flying through the air, speeding up. With Lilli now in sight, he dived, his mother noticing and copying mere moments later. Eevee started cheering as the Fletchling entered her line of sight, Lilli following the normal type's gaze and sticking out their arms for the flying types to land on. These few moments, however, were enough to allow him to regain the lead, landing on Lilli's arm a moment before his mother.
"Yay!!!" Eevee cheered.
"Congratulations!" Lilli exclaimed.
"Thanks!" The younger Fletchling chirped before turning to his mother.
"I suppose you win... Go on, I'll miss you!" Mama Fletchling chirped at her son, before turning to Lilli, "You better bring him back to visit sometime. And there better be no harsh treatment of him."
"You can count on it!" Lilli replied as the Mama Fletchling started to fly away.
"Bye!!!" The younger Fletchling spoke.
"Bye!!!" His mother called out before flying off.
Lilli took this moment to dig out a Pokeball, holding it out to the remaining Fletchling. He went over to it and smacked it with his wing, allowing himself to get sucked in.
Wiggle.
Wiggle.
Wiggle.
Ding!
"Hey, Lilli, have you seen any Fairy Flowers anywhere?"
Lilli's head shot up as they looked around, seeing Rachel, Riolu, and Bulbasaur running towards them.
So... yeah... that schedule I originally planned didn't quite work out... Sorry about that, school got really stressful. I don't really know when the next chapter will come out, but I'd expect July at the earliest, as I'll be traveling for most of June.
Also, I know Rachel and Taylor have been extremely pushed to the side in the first three chapters, but let me tell you, that's about to change.
Rachel's design is at the top btw (left casual, right alt), just like Lilli's was in chapter 1 (Left Performance (might change), right casual).
Thnaks for Reading and I hope you enjoyed!
