The Hut

** A few miles away**

"Elizabeth!" the old man's voice croacked as he called for his wife.

"Yes, dear?" A woman answered, walking to the top of the staircase that enters into their house.

"I'm going to go fishing. I'll see you in a few hours."

"Be safe." the old woman answered, turning back into her house. Their house was on the shore of a very dangerous river. It could be very pleasant one minute, and the next it could be tossing its waters back and forth, giving no mercy. The women, Elizabeth, walked over to her bed, a hammock. Her house was very small, yet she considered herself very blessed. Not many African families in the area even owned a mud hut. Elizabeth and her husband, Noah often let visitors come to her house or anyone who needed help.

"Elizabeth!"

The poor woman jerked at the cry of her husband. She ran as fast as she could down the stairs and to the shore. There she saw her husband kneeled on the ground next to a girl, a white girl.

"Oh my! Noah, is she okay?"

"She's breathing, but not concious. Let's take her inside."

The couple lifted the girl and carried her up the stairs. They set her on their beloved couch. They owned the only couch in the entire village and let any visitors sleep on it.

"Now, now, my dear. Sleep well and we will be praying that you come back." The African woman placed a damp cloth on the girls forhead and started to pray.

-- A Day Later --

Luke coughed as he tried to breathe. He had been crying non-stop for over a day. His true love was gone and no where to be found. Caspian whimpered and dragged his tail as he walked beside Luke. They had been walking for miles now with nothing to drink or eat.

"Sorry Cas." Luke sorrowfully said as he patted the dogs head. Suddenly, it started pouring down rain without any warning. Luke squinted his eyes, trying to find Caspian. Even though the dog was less than five feet away, Luke couldn't even see him. He felt the dogs fur rub against his leg and he held onto the dog for dear life. The rain poured and poured. Luke stopped. There was a hut. It was raining. He looked at the river. It was clear.

"This is it Caspian! We've made it to the hut!"

They both sprinted up the stairs and Luke knocked on the door. When it opened, an older, African man smiled and said, "Hello boy. It's raining hard out there. Why don't you come in?"

Luke ran in with Caspian by his side. The dog shook and water went everywhere.

"Oh, sorry. I'll put the dog outside." Luke said as he opened the door.

"No! No need to do that boy. We love animals."

Luke smiled and shivered.

"Come in the living room. We have blankets in there." The old man wrapped his arm around Luke as he guided him to the living room.

Then, Luke froze. He stood there in amazement at the sight he saw. His lovely Madison was sitting on the couch all bundled up in blankets with a lady sitting beside her.

"What's the matter boy? Do you know her?" The lady asked, confused.

"Yea..yeah. She's my friend. I thought she drowned yesterday when the wind picked up. We were crossing the river and the current went wild. She was swept away and I never saw her again.."

"That river is crazy. God must have brought you to the right place." The couple said in unison.

Luke smiled, "Yeah, God did. He brought me here just in time." He said as he leaned down and kissed Madsion on the forehead. "I'm glad your safe, Madi." He said in her ear.
