He's Gone
Time was flying by and Madison couldn't believe she was already five months along with her child. The pains were more sporadic but Madison was getting used to them. Morning sickness was occasional, but definitely still there. Her stomach was a lot bigger which bothered her. It made her insane when she couldn't even see her feet. Grace decided to call the baby "Squishy", so Squishy it was. But only as a nickname. As for names, Madison and Luke had thrown a bunch back and forth but they only agreed on a few. So far, they had twenty boy names and twenty five girl names on their list. For Madison, that was a success considering Luke hated the subject. He finally gave in and decided to help Madison with the naming process and as you can see, they've gotten quite far.
Madison sat up on the couch and blinked. Two hours ago she had put Grace down for a nap and must have fallen asleep. She got up slowly, causing another cramp. She gritted her teeth and decided to walk off the pain. She slowly walked down the hallway, holding onto the wall and walked into Gracie's room. The little girl was playing with her doll that Madison and Luke had gotten for her birthday which she named Kezi. It was her birth mom, Keziah's nickname but Madison never told Grace who Keziah really was. Grace turned around and bounced on her bed.
"Hi Mommy!" Her smile caused her dimples to form and Madison's heart leaped. Oh how she wanted the new baby to have dimples! Since Luke had small dimples, Madison assumed it was possible for the baby to have some.
"Hey Grace." She said, picking up the girl slowly and placing her legs over the baby bump. "You're getting heavy." Madison said as she struggled to hold the girl who was laughing.
"How is Squishy?"
"It's doing pretty good." Madison turned as she hear a knock on the door. "Speaking of Squishy, Granny is here to check on it." She set Grace down and opened the door.
"Hello Madison!" Elizabeth opened her arms and went in for a hug.
"Hello."
"Checkup time! How's momma feeling?"
"Pretty heavy." Madison laughed, "But overall, I'm pretty good."
"That's normal for pregnancies. Mind if I check?"
Madison shook her head and laid on the couch. Elizabeth felt the sides of Madison's stomach as Grace played with Kezi on the floor.
"The baby feels healthy. Too bad we don't have any supplies to check. All we can do is pray that it will be healthy!"
Madison smiled, "Do you have any idea whether it's a boy or a girl?"
"No idea. What's your guess?"
"Boy. It's giving me such a headache already!" The girls roared in laughter, "I'm just kidding, but I seriously think it's a boy. What do you think Grace?"
"Girl! I want a baby sissy."
"Well, I'm sure we'll be happy with whatever it is, as long as it is healthy."
Elizabeth nodded and handed Madison a basket. "I brought this for you. It's some homemade goods for you to share with the family."
"Thank you so much, Elizabeth." Madison hugged the old women and smiled.
The door opened and Luke walked in. He kissed Madison and hugged Elizabeth.
"How are you guys doing today?" He said as he got an apple off the counter.
"Pretty good." Elizabeth said, "Your child is very healthy. Keep watching over your wife."
"Don't worry, I will." He said as he placed his hand on Madison's baby bump and smiled at her. "I can't wait to meet the baby. It has been a while since I've held one."
Grace jumped up and down and screamed, "You can hold me daddy!"
Luke shook his head, "You're getting a little too big for that, honey." Grace pouted but smiled when Luke said, "But don't worry, I'll let you hold the new baby." The time was getting closer and closer, causing Luke and Madison thrill of the thought of their new arrival.
-Madison's Family-
"Hey mom." Katelyn said as she threw her backpack on the couch.
"Hey sweetie. How was school?"
"Pretty good. There was a new girl there and I introduced myself. Her name was...Marie Whitfield. She said she was from the camp nearby but decided to move schools into a private Christian school. She's really nice."
"That's great. I'm glad you made a new friend."
"But mom," Katelyn said as she looked her mother in the eyes, "She said she had a brother named Luke..and he was kidnapped just a few weeks after Madison."
Jane froze, "Are you serious?" She set the onion she was cutting, down and walked over to the living room and wiped sweat off her forehead, "That's strange. I wonder..I wonder if Madison knows Luke."
"If she's still alive.." Katelyn muttered under her breath.
"Never, ever think that way, you hear me?" Katelyn nodded fast as her moms voice rose in anger. Suddenly, a shrill scream came from outside. Jane and Katelyn ran to the door where Hannah held David, her dad.
"Mom! DADDY!" Hannah burst into tears as she screamed. Camp members surrounded and the doctor ran into action. Things went really fast from there and the doctor looked up at Jane.
"I'm sorry Jane..he's dead."
