Death River

Madison squirmed as she felt slobber consume her face.

"Caspian!" she giggled, "Stop!"

The dog barked and flung spit all over Madison and Luke, causing both of them to jump up in laughter. Luke grabbed Madison and spun her around.

"Morning sweetie." He said so romantically, making Madison fall in love with him even more. She beamed and giggled. Her laugh always made Luke feel like he was luckiest man alive. "Isn't it crazy how much we've been through, yet how much we have?"

"God is good, all the time."

"All the time, God is good."

He set Madison down and smiled at her confidently. She was sure he would make a great husband and father one day if that was God's plan. He was a brave, strong, protective, and most of all, a godly man.

Madison walked around the fire perimeter, humming.

"It's probably time to go." Luke said, wrapping his coat around Madison.

"Where?" She questioned.

"Well to the hut, remember, Sarah told us before she..never mind."

"Before she what Luke? Where is Sarah?"

Luke motioned for her to sit down beside him. He explained how Sarah was actually an angel and was protecting them. He finished by saying, "Now she's gone, but my guess is she's somewhere else doing more work."

Madison looked confused, yet Luke knew she was happy inside. "I miss her, but I can't believe how much God was actually there. I felt so alone and abandoned and yet He was there all along."

"You're right. He is always there. Sarah gave us specific instructions. We are to go westward until we see a hut. There will be a river which will be clean. It will be raining on the day we arrive."

"Wow, that's pretty detailed." She wrapped her arm around Luke and called Caspian. The dog bolted to her side and barked. "We should probably be on our way then."

Madison and Luke walked quickly through the forest with Captain Caspian leading the way. He was a good an loyal dog, always warning them if something was wrong.

Suddenly, they reached a river. It was murky and muddy and not very pleasant to the eye.

"This must not be our sign." Luke sighed. He looked at Madison for only a second and when he turned around, Caspian was already on the other side, barking for them to come across. "Well, if it's that easy, let's go."

Luke went first, making sure it was safe for humans, not just dogs. When he made it to the other side, he yelled across, "All clear! It's a little deep but not bad. There's no current so you should make it across fine."

Madison sighed in relief and stepped into the water. It got deeper and deeper, but not where it was unbearably hard. Suddenly, the wind picked up and rain started pouring down like everything.

"Stupid rain has got a mind of it's own." Madison yelled out.

"Just hurry and you'll be fine."

His words were too late. The current got stronger and stronger, pushing Madison in the opposite direction. She was pulled underwater again and again, only popping up for a few seconds to breathe.

"Luke, Luke!" She yelled at the top of her lungs, "Luke help!"

He rushed to help, but she was no where in sight.

"Madi! Madison!" He looked frantically for her, but he didn't know where she was. She was gone.
