A Name

Madison gasped and clutched her stomach. So far, pregnancy wasn't fun and not very thrilling. Luke brushed through Madison's hair and tried to calm the pain.

"You okay babe?" He said.

"Yeah, just a little sore. Sometimes I wish God hadn't made pregnancy so hard. And if pregnancy is hard, I can't imagine what the birth is going to be like." She sighed and took a breath.

"Don't worry, I promise to be there." Luke smiled at his wife who was four months along with their baby.

"But what if something happens to the baby?" Madison's concerned face made Luke feel helpless.

"God will be there." He said, trying to reassure his wife that everything was going to be okay. Madison smiled and kissed Luke on the cheek.

"We need to talk about names." Madison placed her eyes directly on Luke.

"Madi, you know that's not my favorite subject." He sighed.

"I know. But if we wait till the last minute, it will be worse. We will feel forced to choose a name that we might not even like." She placed her hand in Luke's, "Just ten minutes?"

Luke smiled and nodded his head, "Ten minutes is good. What about..Mallory?"

Madison shook her head with disgust, "No way. Not my favorite name. Do you like Faith?"

"It's okay. But then I would feel forced to name the rest of our kids with virtue names since we would have a Grace and Faith. Do you like Isaiah for a boy?"

Madison slapped Luke on the knee, "Silly boy. You just want a namesake, don't you?"

Luke laughed, "Hey, it's my middle name. You're lucky I didn't suggest Luke." The couple threw names back and forth for fifteen minutes. So far, they hadn't reached one name they both liked. Madison got another cramp, so Luke decided to stop suggesting names. "Deep breaths." He said as Madison squeezed his arm.

"My goodness, when will this child come?"

"Five more months, that's when." The couple sighed in unison. Five more months? How could they wait so long? A knock on the door interrupted the couple from their negative thoughts. "I got it." Luke said as he walked over to the door. Elizabeth stood outside and was welcomed inside.

"Thank you." She nodded to Luke. "How are you feeling today, Madison?"

"Really terrible. It seems like this pregnancy is just getting worse and worse." Madison stopped herself, "I mean, I'm not trying to complain. I'm really thankful for the baby, I just assumed pregnancy was easier."

Elizabeth nodded and held Madison's hand, "No need to apologize. You're lucky I'm a midwife though. I'll always be right next door if you need me." The old women smiled and Madison smiled back.

"You're right." Luke said, "We are very blessed that you're our midwife. We couldn't be more happier that someone we've known for a long time is going to help deliver our baby."

Elizabeth nodded, "Do you mind if I check on the baby?"

"Of course not." Madison laid down and let Elizabeth check the sides of her stomach.

"Wow, it's definitely kicking." Elizabeth smiled. Madison laughed and nodded. After ten minutes, her exam was finished. "Well, you're doing pretty good. So far, you and the baby are completely healthy."

Luke and Madison beamed with joy, "Thank you." They said in unison.

"Have you chosen a name?" Elizabeth asked with excitement.

"Not yet, we're still working on it."Madison said, hitting Luke gently, "This guy isn't a fan of choosing names."

Elizabeth laughed, "Luke, you know you have to choose one no matter what."

Luke sighed, "Yes, I know. I'm planning on helping soon."

Elizabeth smiled, "Well I shall come at your four and a half month checkup."

"Thank you, Elizabeth. We deeply appreciate it." Madison waved goodbye as the lady walked outside.

-Several Hours Later-
"Hey baby girl." Madison said as Grace snuck in between Luke and Madison on their bed.

"How's my baby brofer?"

"Honey, we don't know whether it's a boy or a girl yet." Madison said, laughing.

"Oh. It's a boy, I know." She giggled and patted Madison's stomach.

Luke kissed Madison on the lips and Grace on the forehead. "God has blessed us so much."
