Twelve
Darry's POV
I leaned back on the couch. Smiling, I watched Zaria run around with our kids. Dally and Dawn were watching Brooklyn color. Steve and Soda were cuddling. I smiled at the happiness around me. I hear a cry and see Jax holding his knee. I get up. Jax whimpers. I pick him up.
"Daddy my knee hurts," he whimpers.
I look at his knee. He sniffles.
"What happened, Bud," I ask him.
"I was running from mommy."
I tend to his knee, not wanting him upset. He giggles. I smile at my son.
"Daddy?" I hear my little girl ask.
"Yes, Princess," I ask her.
"Is Jaxy okay."
"He's got a boo boo," I say.
"Can I help him feel better?"
"I can," I tell her.
"No daddy can I help you make him feel better."
"Sure, princess."
Ophelia smiles and sits next to her brother. I watch Jax shiver. Ophelia frowns. Jax curled against his sister. Ophelia hugs him.
"I cold," Jax says, "Can we borrow Auntie Dawn's heat blankie?".
"Sure why don't you ask her," I tell him.
Jax looked at Dawn, but stayed quiet.
I look at Dawn, "hey can we burrow your blanket."
"Sure," she says.
"Thanks," I smile and cover the kids with it.
Jax yawned and went to sleep. I smile and watch them. I looked to Zaria, still smiling.
"Hi baby," she smiles at me.
"Hey," I softly say to her, watching the kids and now Dawn nap.
"Darry can I talk to you in the kitchen."
"Sure," I say softly.
Zaria goes to the kitchen. I follow her. Zaria turns toward me.
"What's wrong."
"Um what if I told you we were having a third child."
I blinked, not remembering doing anything.
"We did it the night we were alone and it was dark and we were tispy."
I nod and apologize hugging her.
"It's fine," she says hugging back.
I kiss her cheek, happy. She smiles at me. I smiled gently.
"Lets think of a name ahead of time."
"Agreed."
She goes to the kids, "Wait baby where's Ophelia."
I look around for our daughter.
"Ophelia," Zaria says, tears pricking her eyes.
I start getting worried. Ophelia runs in with something in her hands. I look at her.
"Daddy I found a kitten on our porch," Ophelia says.
I looked to the small animal in her arms.
"Can we keep her daddy."
"I'm not sure....."
"Oh okay daddy," the small girl whispers sitting on the ground petting the tiny animal.
I look to Zaria.
"She is responsible Darry."
I look to Ophelia. Ophelia was cleaning the kitten. I watched the small animal meow softly, purring as Ophelia used baby wipes to clean it.
"You can keep it, it you gotta let me, mommy or Auntie Dawn bathe it. But you can help feed it," I say.
"Okay daddy," Ophelia says and get up and holds the kitten close.
I watch her. Ophelia lifts the kitten and it licked my cheek.
"The kitten says thank you daddy," she giggles.
I smiled.
"Come on Wiggles I'll show you to our room," she says running off.
I have Soda follow her.
"Why can't you," he mumbles.
"Because I'm thinking of another child name," I tell Soda.
Soda goes to her room. I hear Ophelia giggling and playing with her new kitten. I see Zaria sits down and rubs her stomach softly.
I sit beside her, "I'm not sure I'm ready...".
"For the baby," she whispers, not looking at me.
"I'm ready for that. I'm just nervous," I say, rephrasing what I said.
"I'm nervous about what the kids are going to say."
"I am too."
Zaria lays her head on me and snuggles. I rub her side. Zaria smiles up at me. I hum. Zaria falls asleep.
How can today get worse?
