The house didn't seem all to terrifyingly mysterious as dad spiced it up to be. Mia breathed in the damp air, it smelled like a huge storm had just passed. It wasn't anything like her old city... She was interested in paranormal activites and mysteries which with one look, she could tell she wouldn't find it anywhere here. THIS was utterly disgusting. Suddenly her dad rushed out whimsically in goofy, wooly plaid pants with a red and brown checkered shirt. He REALLY let himself go. "Mia!" He called out, a twinkle in his eyes.

Mia took a small step back. Who was this fat mismatched pyscho? Her dad threw his arms around her and pulled her into a tight bear hug, one of pop's old specialties. "Dad..." She grumbled, forgetting to sound happy.

"Mia! It's good to see you! You've grown quite a bit since, well, forever!"
"It was just two years ago, dad. It's not that deep." She huffed.

"14 now. My baby's growing up. If your mother-" he stopped short. Talking about mom always brought dreadful silence. Ever since she died a week and a half ago, nothing was really the same. Most times she felt shoulder deep in cold, dark water. It hurt to hear that name. Mom. In fact, now that she thought about it, dad wasn't in his normal cheery mood either; there was only one other time that made him like that. The divorce that took place two sudden years ago.

"Dad, you said the house was creepy." She started, breaking the eerie silence. "As in ghostly creepy." An eyebrow raised as she pulled from his embrace.

"....Oh, that. Well I'm sure you can find something creepy about it with your wild imagination. " He ruffled her black matted curls.

Jerk. "YOU LIED...AGAIN!!!"

"Now sweetheart, I'm sorry, but I had to say something to get you to come here. I didn't want to lie...I wanted you with me. So that we can both cope with your mother's passing, I know it's been hard on you as well. I didn't want to lose you to your grandparents, you know they won't let me around you." He averted his eyes. She could almost see the tears...

"NO WONDER! YOUR A DREAM CRUSHER!! YOU ALWAYS LIE TO ME!! THEY DON'T!! YOU'RE SO-SO UGH! THAT'S WHY MOM LEFT YOU!!!!" Mia turned sharply but was snatched back by her father's strong grip.

"Mia..." He trailed off. She knew. Yanking her arm back and covering IT with her red hoodie sleeve was the best response. The ONLY response. "No, not again. Mia, you can't keep doing this!"

"You're not going to stop me! Nothing you say WILL!" Mia trudged off and he let her go. Despite leaving her father in tears, she decided to find something more interesting on the dumb island to take her mind off HIM. According to the pamphlet she briefly examined before, there was a full beach out on the west coast and a boardwalk there as well. Maybe there'd be mysteries lying somewhere deep in the sand...
