The Wolves!
We run to get to the Witch's castle, just Peter, Susan, Lucy, Mr. Beaver, and myself.
Then, we finally reach the frozen lake where the castle is, the Pevensies' panting, and we see something or someone moving towards the gate.
Edmund!
"EDMUND!" Lucy shouts, her voice slightly echoes.
"Shhh!" Mr. Beaver exclaims.
Peter goes to run to the castle! "No!!!" I almost shout as I grab his hand and try to pull him back.
"Arya, let me go!" he looks back at me and says.
"Peter, you have to let him go!" I say, finally pulling Peter back to my side and ignoring the sparks I feel at the touch of our hands.
"What?!" Susan exclaims.
"But he's our brother!!" Lucy adds.
"HE'S THE BAIT!" I almost shout at all of them as I point at Edmund's still moving shape. "The Witch wants all four of you, since she's already hunting me down!"
"Why?" Peter asks me, making me look at him.
"To stop the prophecy from becoming true." I say to him before looking at Susan and Lucy as well. "TO KILL YOU!"
They all go silent and Peter turns to look for Edmund's shape that's finally going up to the gate.
"This is all your fault!" Susan tells Peter.
"MY fault?!" Peter asks, turning around.
"None of this would have happened if you had just listened to me!" she almost shouts at him.
"Oh, so you knew this would happen?" Peter asks her, angrily.
"I didn't know WHAT would happen." she says, her anger matching his. "Which is why we should have left while we still could!"
"STOP IT!!" Lucy shouts, getting them both to stop and look at her. "This isn't going to help Edmund."
"She's right." Mr. Beaver says. "Only Aslan can save your brother now."
Peter looks down to him. "Then, take us to him." he says before turning again just to see Edmund walking through and disappearing behind the White Witch's gate.
I look at Peter's worried expression before I put my hand on his shoulder, causing him to look at me. My heart catches what feels like fire at our eyes connection.
"Peter, we will get your brother back." I say, my voice so sincere. "I promise."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We started to run back to the dam, then I hear the howl of a wolf.
"The Secret Police!" Mr. Beaver exclaims. "We'll never reach home now!"
"There is a way!" I say to him before turning to the others. "Quick, everyone, get on my back!"
"What?!" Peter and Susan exclaim in unison.
"I said," I say before phasing into a HUGE white wolf in front of them. "Get on my back!"
Without another word, they all climb on my back, take hold of my thick fur, and I burst into running, the wind curling around me.
I run for a few moments downhill before I see the dam close by. "Everyone, get off!" I tell them.
They do and as soon as Mr. Beaver, the last passenger, slips off me, I phase back into my original form.
Then, we all run into the dam. "Hurry, Mother, they're after us!" Mr. Beaver shouts for his wife.
And immediately she starts... packing FOOD!
Seriously?!
"What is she doing?" Lucy asks Mr. Beaver.
Mr. Beaver and I both shrug. Then, Susan helps her. Another howl echoes in my ears.
"Well, we're going to need to food." Mrs. Beaver says. "And Beaver gets pretty cranky when he's not fed."
"I'm cranky now!" Mr. Beaver shouts.
"Do you think we'll need jam?" Susan asks no one in particular, ignoring the Beavers.
My nerves finally snap at this. "ONLY IF THE WITCH SERVES TOAST!" I shout while pointing in the direction of the Witch's castle.
Well, then again, you guys may be alive long enough to have toast. I'll just be killed on the spot.
Then, I hear more than one howl and they're VERY close! "Okay, that's it, everyone. We have to go!" I tell everyone.
"Here!" Mr. Beaver says, moving a small barrel, revealing a tunnel beneath it. "This way!"
"But, it's dark in there!" Susan says, pointing at the tunnel.
"Oh, for the love of..." I don't finish my sentence as I quickly go to make a torch.
I grab a thick piece of wood off of the wall, tear the hem of my dress, wrap it around the wood, light it from the fireplace, and hand it to Peter.
"There!" I say to Susan. "Now you have light."
I jump into the jump and land easily. Then, the Beavers jump and I catch them both. After them, Lucy jumps and I catch her.
Then, Susan jumps to the floor, landing rather sloppily. Finally, Peter jumps down and stands up, almost as easily as me.
Then, we all run the way the tunnel leads. "Hurry!" Mr. Beaver says. "Me and my mate, Badger, have been digging this tunnel for weeks, it goes straight to his place."
"You said that it lead to your mum's." Mrs. Beaver says, bewildered but starts to get angry.
"Mrs. Beaver, now really isn't the time!" I say, stopping an argument before it begins.
Lucy yelps as she trips on her long fur coat and falls to the floor. "Lucy!" I say as I kneel down to help her up but freeze when I hear the yapping and barking of the wolves. "They're in the tunnel... RUN!!"
Lucy jumps to her feet and we all run faster than before until we hit a dead end!
"You should have brought a map!" Mrs. Beaver shouts at her husband.
"There wasn't room next to the jam!" Mr. Beaver shouts back before digging furiously.
He finally breaks through and we all come out into the icy winter night once again, and not a moment too soon. The wolves light running turns into thunderous sprinting.
Peter and I quickly pull over a nearby barrel, we fit it in the hole, I quickly phase into a bear, slam the barrel tightly into the opening, and closing the wolves off.
I phase back as soon as I hear the clatter of stone and Lucy falling back on something.
Or more accurately, some animals. Some stone animals.
