The Beavers Home

We follow Mr. Beaver to his home.

"Well, there she is." he says, motioning at his home.

"It's lovely!" Lucy says and I agree with her.

"Oh, it's nothing." he says as he looks down, blushing (even though beavers don't blush or so Susan whispers behind me).

We walk down the hill and Peter trips and naturally starts to go forward! I grab his left shoulder with my right hand and pull him back.

He looks at me and smiles. Immediately, it sends butterflies into my stomach.

"Thank you,... Arya," he says, gratefully.

I smile back at him. I like the way my name flows from his lips. "You are welcome, Peter."

We go back to going down the hill to close to the dam. And I think we hear Mrs. Beaver.

"Beaver? Is that you?" we hear her shout as she comes out of the dam. "If I find out that you've been out with Badger again,..."

She trails off after seeing us. And her eyes go wide as she gasps.

"Those aren't badgers." she says, then looks at me. "Oh, Your Majesty!"

She goes to bow, but I bend down to grab her hand. And I pull her slightly to straighten up.

"Please," I say, kindly as I smile. "There's no need for formalities. I'm not really a princess without a kingdom."

She smiles and nods, "Nevertheless, Your Highness, you cannot refuse your title that you were born with."

"I thought Narnia is your kingdom..." Peter says behind us.

The other Pevensies seem to agree with him. I turn around and face them. Well, actually to face Peter. His face is full of questions.

"I'll explain more, some other time." I say, and for now, that satisfies them.

"Now, let us go inside and eat some food!" Mr. Beaver says.

Mrs. Beaver agrees with him and they lead inside their home. Everyone goes except for me and Edmund. I try to see if there's anything that even smells like a threat, and there's nothing.

And I see that Edmund's looking between the two mountains to the east of us. The direction of the White Witch's home.

My eyes squint at him once again. "Enjoying the scenery, are we?" I ask him, suspiciously.

He says nothing and walks inside. I follow him and go through the path to the Beavers family room.

I walk into the warm and homey room and Peter motions for me to sit by him. And I do. After doing so, I take off my bow and my quiver and set them on the floor beside me.

"So, why did you say that you don't have a kingdom?" he asks me, really curious.

"Because the White Witch took it away from me. That is all you need to know for now." I say.

Can you blame me? Yes, he may be my soul mate, but that doesn't mean I have to tell him everything right now.

And he seems to understand. Mrs. Beaver makes some food. Mr. Beaver sits by Lucy.

"When did Tumnus give you the handkerchief?" I ask him.

"Right after you left." he answers. "I was passing through, going to my friend, Badger's house, and he gave it to me. Then, the wolves came and took him away."

"Just for helping us?" Lucy asks.

His silence told us Yes. To break the silence, Mrs. Beaver comes to the table with a tray of food.

"Fish and chips." she announces as we all look at it, she puts her hand on Lucy's shoulder. "But, there's hope, dear. Lots of hope."

"Oh yeah, there's loads of hope." Mr. Beaver says, smiling and leaning forward. "Aslan has returned."

At this, I smile widely at the name. I have heard rumors saying that Aslan, the true king and ruler of Narnia, had returned to us to fight the Witch.

However, Lucy and I are the only ones smiling at the name. Every one else looks mystified at the noble name.

"Who's Aslan?" Edmund asks for all of them.

Mr. Beaver and I laugh at his attempt at a joke. But,... no one else is laughing. So we stop.

"You dunno?" Mr. Beaver asks them.

"Well, we haven't exactly been here that long." Peter says, a little defensively.

"You've got to be joking!" Mr. Beaver exclaims.

"Beaver..." Mrs. Beaver tries to calm him down, it doesn't work.

"No!" he shouts. "They don't even know the prophecy! I don't think the princess even knows."

I shake my head. "My mother only let me hear a little bit of first part of the first line." I say, shrugging my shoulders.

"Well,..." Mrs. Beaver looks at her husband, motioning for him to continue.

"Look." Mr. Beaver says to us, calming down, before pulling out his hand to count something. "Aslan's return... Tumnus' arrest... the Secret Police... It's all happening because of you!"

The last part he motions at all of us. And now, I'm very confused. "You're blaming us?" I ask.

As if I don't already blame myself...

"No, dear, not BLAMING you." Mrs. Beaver says to me, kindly. "THANKING you."

We all look at Mr. Beaver, still confused. He sighs. "There's a prophecy...

"'Adam's flesh and Elvish bone, each at Cair Paravel sits a throne. The evil will be over and done.'"

"You know, that doesn't really rhyme." Susan says after Mr. Beaver finishes.

Does it have to?!

"I know it doesn't. But, you're missing the point!" he says, starting to get worked up again.

Mrs. Beaver puts her hand his shoulder again, stopping him. "It's been foretold that two sons of Adam, two daughters of Eve, and one daughter of the Elves shall defeat the White Witch and restore peace to Narnia." she says, pointing at each of us as she speaks.

"And you think WE are the ones?" Peter asks.

Well, there's no way I can't be. I'm the last Elf left.

"Well, you better be!" Mr. Beaver exclaims. "Cause Aslan's already got your army! And he's waitin' for ya at the Stone Table!"

"Our ARMY?!" Lucy asks in disbelief.

"Mum sent us away so we WOULDN'T get caught up in a war!" Susan says to Peter.

Peter looks at the Beavers and me. "I'm afraid you've got the wrong humans. We're not heroes!" he says, motioning at himself and his siblings.

"We're from Finchley!" Susan says, trying to persuade us more.

I raise an eyebrow and look at the Beavers. We all shrug together. We all don't have a clue as to what or where she's talking about.

She goes on as she stands up. "Thank you for your hospitality." she tells the Beavers. "But, we really have to go back!"

"But, you can't leave!" Mr. Beaver exclaims. "You can't leave Arya to command the armies alone. Not since every evil creature in the world is trying to kill her! And everyone's waiting for you all to lead them!"

"He's right." Lucy says. "We have to help them!"

"It's out of our hands!" Peter tells his little sister. "Now, let's get ready to go. Ed..."

He calls out for his little brother, but no answer. "Ed?" Peter calls again as he looks around the small dam. And Edmund is no where to be found.

He must have left while we were all talking, I was so involved, I didn't even hear him leave. But, where would he have gone?

A memory of seeing him look at the mountains where the Witch's house is passes through my mind. Then, I remember when I dropped Lucy off the second time. I didn't really pay attention then, but there were SLEIGH and REINDEER prints in the snow.

Of course...

"I'm gonna kill him." Peter says, angrily, to Susan.

"You may not have to." I say as I stand up and put back on my quiver and grab my bow. "Because Edmund's been to Narnia before."
