Lullaby
Peter and I look back to see the entire yard full of stone animals. Even Mr. Beaver's friend, Badger.
He walks up to Badger, his wife at his side. "I'm so sorry, dear." she says, putting her hand on his shoulder.
"He was my best mate..." Mr. Beaver trails off, sadly.
My chest tightens at the sight of all these animals. It reminds me of the day I came home to find all my people turned to stone and... my parents bleeding to death.
"What happened here?" Peter asks Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and me.
But, before I can say anything, a new voice cuts through. "This is what happens to those who defy the White Witch." the voice belongs to a fox, who walks toward us.
Mr. Beaver thinks that the fox works for the White Witch and tries to go to fight him. "Come on, you traitor!"
The fox simply laughs. "Relax, I'm one of the good guys."
"Yeah? Well, you look an awful lot like the bad ones." Mr. Beaver snaps.
The fox sighs. "An unfortunate family resemblance. But, right now, we have to hide all of you."
And he's right, the Wolves are coming and are getting closer.
"What did you have in mind?" I ask.
He smiles and looks at the trees above us. He wants us to go in the trees.
I help everyone quickly climb into the tree. Then, the wolves run into the yard, and surround the fox in the clearing.
"Greetings, gents!" the fox says, kindly, as he slowly steps back. "Lose something, did we?"
"Don't waste my time!" Maugrim, the captain of the Secret Police, snaps. "I know where your allegiance lies. We're looking for some humans and the Princess."
The fox laughs, slightly with uneasiness. "Humans? Here in Narnia? And the Princess? She isn't dead? Well, your Queen should really panic now."
Suddenly, one of the wolves lunges at the fox and bites him around the middle!! Lucy gasps, but I quickly cover her mouth!
"Tell us where they headed or I'll end your life. And it isn't much." Maugrim says, before laughing cruelly then stopped. "But, still. Where are they headed?"
The fox looks at me, his expression pained. My eyes plead him not to betray us.
"North." he exhales in pain. "They're headed north."
I sigh in relief as the wolf throws the fox to the ground before they all run north and away from us.
We all climb down from the tree and went to the fire pit. I start the fire in the pit while Mrs. Beaver tries to help the fox with his wounds.
"You alright?" Lucy asks him after I finish.
"Well, I wish I could say their bark was worse than their bite." he jokes before he yelps in pain. "Hey!"
"Oh, stop your whining!" Mrs. Beaver says. "You're worse than Beaver on Bath Day."
"Worse day of the year." Mr. Beaver mumbles, causing me to smile.
"Here." I say as I move to Mrs. Beaver and the fox, who's laying down. "Allow me."
"Of course, Your Highness." she says as she moves away.
I slid next to the fox and lay my hands on his wounds, gently, before singing a song my Mother sang whenever I was hurt:
~Flower, gleam and glow.~
After I start singing, my hands glow a bright gold and seems to go into the fox as I continue.
~Let your power shine.~
Everyone stares in amazement, but they all stay quiet.
~Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.~
I feel the fox starting to completely heal as I sing the last part.
~Heal what has been hurt.~
~Change the Fates design~
~Save what has been lost~
~Bring back what once was mine~
~What once was mine~
My hands stop glowing as I stop singing. I remove my hands and the fox is perfectly fine. He stands up with ease.
"Thank you. But, I must be going." he says, smiling at me.
"You're not staying?" I ask with concern.
"It was an honor, my Queen. And a delight." he says to me, bowing before straightening up. "But, Aslan, himself, has asked me to gather more troops."
"You've seen Aslan?!" Mr. Beaver exclaims, smiling.
"What's he like?" Mrs. Beaver asks, also smiling.
"Like... Everything we ever heard." the fox says, smiling even more. "And he is gathering an army to fight this last war, with you as our leader, King Peter."
"We're not staying!" Susan says, almost shouting.
"But, Narnia can't fight without you!" the fox exclaims, surprised. "King Peter!"
Peter sits there uncomfortable before finally saying: "We just want our brother back."
The fox sighs before looking at me. "And you, Queen Arya? Will you not fight as well?"
"No, dear fox. I will fight this war. For my people and my family. For they, I will fight, even to my death." I say, firmly.
He smiles at this. "I shall inform Aslan as soon as I can." he says before bowing again. "Farewell, my King, Queens, and Beavers."
He turns away from us and runs away into the forest. Everyone turns to me.
"How did you do that?" Lucy asks me, kindly.
"One of my gifts is to heal most any injury." I say. "That is all I will say."
"So we're supposed to trust you, even though you won't tell us any of your secrets?" Susan asks, incredulously.
I smirk as I look at her. "Well, you're not dead yet, are you?" I ask.
"No, but-"
"Then stop complaining! I will do all I can to make sure that all of you make it safely to Aslan's camp. And I am no one to be trifled with, that is all you ever need know for now."
"But,-"
"Susan!" Peter finally jumps in. "Enough! Lucy trusts her, so do we. Now, stop trying to be the boss of everything!"
That makes Susan be quiet now. I nod slightly at Peter my thanks. A few seconds of silence go by as we all try to get comfortable on the to sleep.
"Arya," asks Lucy. "Will you sing a lullaby for us?"
"Well, I don't know any of songs from your world, but sure, I will sing." I say, trying to think of a song.
I finally think of one as I look up at the trees and the sky. And smile before I sing another song from my Mother.
Lavender's blue,
Dilly dilly,
Lavenders green.
When I am King,
Dilly dilly,
You shall be Queen.
Who told you so,
Dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
T'was my own heart,
Dilly dilly,
That told me so.
Call up your men,
Dilly dilly,
Set them to work.
Some to the plow,
Dilly dilly,
Some to the fork.
Some to make hay,
Dilly dilly,
Some to cut corn.
While you and I,
Dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm.
Lavender's green,
Dilly dilly,
Lavender's blue.
If you love me,
Dilly dilly,
I will love you.
Let the birds sing,
Dilly dilly,
Let the lambs play.
We shall be safe,
Dilly dilly,
Out of harms way.
I love to dance,
Dilly dilly,
I love to sing.
When I am Queen,
Dilly dilly,
You'll be my King.
Who told me so,
Dilly dilly,
Who told me so?
I told myself,
Dilly dilly,
I told me so.
As I finally start to drift into sleep, I think I hear someone say, "Goodnight, Arya."
And it's not Lucy.
