Chapter Two

Phil's POV

I woke to the sun peaking through the blinds and smiled a little to myself. I wondered whether my second day at school could be as perfect as my first. My mum had been extremely happy to find me smiling when I came home. I actually enjoyed talking about school for once. I stretched before checking my phone for the time - I only had a few minutes till my alarm so decided to start getting ready.

I sighed and got in the shower before changing into fresh clothes. I only had one day left of school before the weekend as I had joined at an awkward time.  I put my favourite red checkered shirt on and some black skinny jeans. I straightened my hair and put a black jacket and converse on. I checked myself one last time in the mirror, cringing at the faded scars and bruises from past bullying.

I sighed and grabbed my bag, flinging it over my shoulder. I threw a quick goodbye to my mum before exiting the house. I met Chris and PJ at the school gates. They were chatting away, enjoying each other's company.

Before I approached them I decided to look at them for a moment, taking in their actions. It looked like they were flirting. I wondered whether they liked each other. Once I took a closer look Chris was smirking a lot whilst PJ blushed a lot. I smiled at how cute a couple they'd make. Especially with PJ's wise and calmness to balance out Chris' wildness.

"Hey guys." I said once I approached them. They both blushed when they saw me but brushed it off quickly. I smirked to myself and we all walked into school. The morning went by pretty quickly and the boys resumed their position on one of the benches at break.

"So we're going into town tomorrow, you wanna come?" PJ asked me.

"I'd love to." I accepted happily. I felt I could be a little more confident around them - not default shy and uncomfortable setting. We had the same things in common and they accepted my weirdness. They really the perfect friends for after all that had happened to me.

"Cool, you guys could come back to my house after. I got the new Assassins Creed - care to play?" Chris offered.

"Duh." I agreed with a smile.

"You've definitely come out your shell haven't you? You were all shy and cute when we found you yesterday." PJ chuckled. Chris' eyebrows furrowed for a moment.

"Urm yeah, you guys are great friends. It's really helped." I smiled and put a hand on Chris' shoulder. I glanced at PJ and it was his turn to look annoyed with our closeness. I couldn't help internally smirking at the two smitten idiots.

"Excuse me?" Someone asked. PJ, Chris and I looked up simultaneously and saw a boy standing there. It took me a moment to realize who it was and when I realized, I jumped to my feet and glared at the boy in front of me.

"What are you doing here?" I hissed. Chris and PJ could sense my hatred for the boy so got up and stood beside me protectively. I wanted to show my gratitude and thank them but I was warily focused on the boy in front of me.

"Oh come on Phil, don't be like that." He smirked. He was the same height as me, had floppy blond hair and defined muscles on a slim body. He had wild green eyes and a mischievous grin. His whole being screamed 'player' and 'ladies man'.

"I said what are you doing here Anton?" I asked through clenched teeth.

"Oh come off it Phil. It's all in the past, I've forgotten about it. I suggest you do too." He smiled at me. I raised an eyebrow at him, why was he being nice to me? He was never nice to me. "I'll see you around Phil." He winked at me. I frowned in confusion, why was one of my past bullies winking at me? He proceeded to walk off confidently.

"Ok Phil, give me details - who was that pretty boy?" Chris asked in concern. I saw PJ scowl at the description and the inside joke with myself just got funnier. I couldn't help but smirk this time. "Well?" Chris urged.

"He's ... he was kind of one of my bullies a few years ago. He was a real pain in the neck and popular with the ladies...and the men." I muttered the last part, embarrassed.

"Oh no, you still like him don't you?" PJ asked, concern in his eyes. I stared in shock before chuckling.

"No, I had my episode with him. I got over him pretty quickly because of the way he treated me. I don't want to be any where near him!" I urged.

"We'll make sure he doesn't come within a mile of you but I won't promise that I won't jump him ad his hot stuff!" Chris teased and wriggled his eyebrows. I chuckled and PJ joined in almost bitterly. I felt sorry for him but I knew that Chris would probably chose PJ over Anton any day.

"Oh that's the bell. Sorry Phil we don't have the same classes, we'll see you at lunch okay?" Chris asked. I nodded and walked in the direction of my geography class. Unfortunately I was the last there thanks to me chatting non stop with my new friends.

"Ah Mr Lester, forgot you were new-" I immediately felt nervous about seating arrangements now that neither Chris nor PJ was in the class. "Um there are four empty seats, pick one quickly." The teacher pointed towards the class. I looked at the options, there was one next to some chattering girls who took no notice. They didn't seem immediately welcoming. There was one where a girl was looking seductively at me which was an immediate no in my mind. The next one was next to Anton, he winked at me suggestively but I ignored him. I was definitely not sitting next to one of my past tormentors. The last seat was ... oh god. Next to Dan!

He was looking out the window in a daydream but when I approached he looked up and gave a small smile. If the boy kept that up I was going to have miniature heart attack. I took a deep breath - I didn't want to sit in any of the other seats so I walked towards Dan and sat next to him.

He looked at me for a moment, still smiling then turned to look out the window again. I let out the breath I'd been holding in, glad he didn't tell me to get lost. I got my stuff out and tried to concentrate on the work but his cologne was very distracting. He smelt like mint and cinnamon which sent a pleasurable tang up my nose.

This boy.

"So how are you enjoying the school?" A beautiful voice that sent shivers up my spine asked. I looked up at Dan and was surprised to find him talking to me. I gave him a half smile, concentrating on trying not to stare at his flawless face.

"It's been good ... made a few friends." I whispered in reply, so the teacher or surrounding students didn't hear us.

"Oh yeah, Chris and PJ right? They're really cool people, better than the majority of the people in this dump." He approved, eyes facing forward. His voice was like a drug and I wanted to hear it more. It was really hard to restrain from thinking about kissing his perfect lips.

"Do you talk to them?" I asked, curiously. Dan's smile vanished and he looked out the window.

"I don't really talk to anyone." He muttered, his lips set in a straight line. I swallowed, wondering if he'd feel comfortable if I asked why. I decided to just take the plunge, praying he wouldn't hate me.

"Why not?" I gulped. He closed his eyes and breathed in. He didn't speak for a while so I assumed he wasn't going to answer but he surprised me.

"It's hard to explain ..." Is all he said but gave me a small smile. I smiled back, how couldn't I? It was so tempting. I wanted to ask more but we had only just met and I knew he'd get uncomfortable with more questions. Hell I was uncomfortable with lot's of questions. We were quiet for another five minutes to which I assumed our conversation was over but he soon spoke up again.

"So what stuff are you into Phil?" Dan asked, fully looking at me this time. I had to avoid eye contact or else I'd stare into his eyes like an idiot.

"Well ... I like music, video games, Pokemon, anime, animals - stuff like that." I answered quietly, still averting his gaze.

"Cool, what's your favourite animal?" He asked. Why was he asking all these questions? He never talked to anyone so why was he interested in me?

"A lion." I replied.

"Mine's a Llama." He chuckled. This time I looked at him and raised an eyebrow, chuckling along with him. We were getting along quite well for such a short period of time and his affliction to avoid people. "What music do you like?" He asked, looking even more curious.

"I like Muse, Fall Out Boy, Panic! ... other stuff." I replied and attempted to sound casual.

"No way, I love Muse too!" He replied excitedly. I saw his eyes light up and I felt myself melt inside. What was he doing? Chris and PJ were pretty adamant that he didn't spare people a second glance. He shouldn't have been talking to me - plain old Phil.

"Cool, what sort of anime do you like?" I asked, still curious about the boy. I felt the urge to know more about him - crack the enigma code that was Dan Howell.

"I really like Death Note." Dan smiled. "L is my favourite."

"Same here but Light is also pretty saucy." I joked and he giggled, earning a few shocked looks from other class mates. I had a feeling not many people made him laugh because they all looked at me in surprise and what looked to be jealousy.

Finally the bell went and I collected my books. "See you around Phil." Dan smiled softly and left swiftly.

I stared after him in awe, "What the fuck just happened?" I thought in giddy confusion. However my vision was suddenly blocked from the door. I looked up to see Anton stood in front of me. I scowled at him and slung my bag over my shoulder.

"Look Phil, I'm sorry okay? Can we please be friends?" He asked, using puppy dog eyes.

"No! I refuse to have any type of feelings for you again!" I thought angrily. I looked him over uncertainly - he looked sorry. "Urm ...." I trailed off, not sure how to answer him.

"Please Phil? I promise I won't disturb you if that's what you want but can we maybe talk another time?" He asked hopefully. I was so confused - he was nothing like how he used to be and it was a little unnerving and creepy. However he seemed like he was trying to make up for his actions. I sighed in defeat.

"Fine." I finally agreed and left him with a happy smile on his face. I quickly met up with Chris and PJ for lunch. As I approached our table I saw Chris give PJ this adoring look. PJ probably felt the same way if his heart eyes were anything to go by. I felt a need to get them together.

"Hey guys." I smiled and sat down with them, the both broke out of their little bubble and blushed slightly. I smirked to myself.

"Hey Phil. Can I ... can I speak to you quickly?" Chris asked, suddenly looking nervous. PJ looked at him weird but went back to eating his sandwich.

"Sure." I replied curiously and followed him to a quiet corner of the cafeteria.
