School

Sarah was in shock. Leave Gotham? With him? She liked him, but she didn't know if it would be the right choice.

"...but the kids? They need a teacher.."

".....we can't take them with us doll, they'll find another teacher. You gotta think of your own happiness."

"...but teaching does make me happy...it helps me escape from family and Randall..."

"You could be a teacher in another town...." he then sighed ".....I understand...you don't want to leave the kids. That's because you've got a big heart."

"....I...I will think about it..."

He nodded, "alright. Or I could just challenge Randall to a gun fight..." he then smiled "I'm kidding. I know you don't want that."

"...," she then patted his hand.

"Are you due at the schoolhouse today?"

"It's Sunday...isn't it?"

Joker looked at her shocked. She must've not known she was out for a day. "It's Monday, you were out all yesterday. Don't panic, I slept in the chair. Listen I think when you're done teaching you should come back here.... I mean, that is if you want to."

"Really?" She asked looking up at him as he grabbed her clothes.

"Yes really. Your fiancé is gonna be mad and I would prefer if you stayed with me where it's safe."

"Alright..."

"I'll step out while you get the rest of your clothes on" he teased, then waited outside the room.

Sarah then came out once she was dressed and blushed at him. "Thank you...for saving me...," she said softly.

"Don't mention it..." he tipped his hat at her "...i guess that makes us even."

"I guess," she giggled.

"I'll walk you to the school house," he offered her his arm and led her downstairs. He took her out through the back door, waving to Gary as they left, Joker thought it would embarrass her if all the men in the saloon saw her leaving... and especially with him.

"Thank you...," she blushed and soon they got to the school. She then kissed his cheek. Soon the children came to the school. How about visit right after recess? Just tell yourself to the class. I have a student who is very fond of you."

"Me? You have a student that is fond of me? So I'm like their hero or something?" he chuckled "well it's nice to know that I'm also known for the hood stuff I've done."

"Of course. She loves you a lot."

"Alright. I'll come in after recess and surprise her" he then took hold of her hand and kissed it, then he left. One of the students had seen him though and went to his teacher.

"Please miss, is that your boyfriend?"

"Oh...no he's just a friend." She blushed.

"Oh. he looks like a lot of fun. My mama told me you were getting married, I thought maybe that was the man."

"...I wish...I am marrying a man who isn't nice...it wasn't him.

The boy looked sad for her "if the man you ain't marrying isn't nice maybe you should call the wedding off, Miss Thomas."

"...I wish...it's complicated, Willy." She said.

He nodded, "It's coming up soon ain't it Miss? Your wedding day?"

"....yes...two more days...," she looked down. She then shook her head and went to open the door for the kids to get in.

"if I were you Miss Thomas, I would enjoy those last 2 days of being free and do the stuff that makes you happiest" he then went inside with the rest of the children

Joker had taken his horse to the blacksmith and now headed back to the school. He waited outside where he wouldn't be seen and smoked a cigarette. Soon the kids ran out for recess. While the kids were busy playing, Joker slipped inside the schoolhouse and handed her a bunch of flowers he'd picked for her.

"Oh, Mr Joker, thank you...," she then took the flowers and smelled them happily.

"I like being able to make you smile."

Joker turned to face the kids and smiled at them "well howdy there, does anyone know who I am?"

Willy raised his hand "Miss Thomas' friend!"

Sarah then giggled.

"He's the Lone Ranger Clown!" Laura said.

Joker chuckled, "well you're both right, I'm a friend of Miss Thomas but I am also the Lone Ranger clown."

"Do you get to do lots of fun and exciting things?" Another little boy called out.

"I do, I'm all about having fun."

Sarah then blushed. Laura then raised her hand.

"yes princess?"

Laura blushed and smiled, "I just want to say, I am a huge fan and appreciate you, Mr Clown."

"Awe why thank you princess...I appreciate you too" he kneeled down "can I get a hug?"

Laura blushed and went to him and hugged him. Joker gave her a big hug, "now I wanna see how you'd look as a Lone Ranger..." he removed his hat and put it on her "....you look better in that than I do."

Laura giggled, "I do?"

"Absolutely you do" he smiled.

"Awe, thanks, Mr Clown."

"You can call me Joker, and you're welcome princess. You can keep the hat, I have lots of them."

"Really?" Her eyes lit up, "Thank you...Mr Joker."

"You're welcome sweetie," he lifted her hat and kissed her forehead.

She blushed and went to her seat. Sarah then spoke, "Anymore questions for Mr Joker?"

Another girl put her hand up "what's it like to be an outlaw?"

This caught Joker off guard "uh, well technically I'm not an outlaw now. I was given a pardon by the mayor because I helped round up some really bad guys."

"Really?" the same girl named Nellie asked, "my father who owns the market here claims you still are very dangerous." She smirked at Laura.

"Have I ever met your father?"

"No, but—"

"I didn't think so, because if he'd met me then he'd know me. Let that be a lesson for you kids, you can't believe everything you hear."

"Yes, Mr Clown," everyone said.

"Sir..." added another boy named James.

"I think that's enough questions for Mr Joker, he's a very busy man. Wanting to buy Mr Franklin's sal...I mean...the adult place. Right, Mr Joker?"

He chuckled, "Right, Miss Thomas." He then said goodbye to all the kids and left.
