MYRLLEN

Myrllen sighed and looked up to the sky, scanning the sea of sparkles. They sailed all day with Marin at the helm. Now Travis stood there, watching the waves ahead of them.

One of the stars up there is Paragon. The Stellan's thoughts were slow but confident in his belief. Myrllen focused, begging the sky for answers. Paragon, we could use your guidance right now.

He felt a weight in his cloak's pocket but knew it was just the letter. With a sigh, the Stellan stared back at the stars, but they offered no guidance.

"Paragon! Starport!" He blinked away tears as his voice rose towards the heavens.

A soft glow appeared behind him. With wide eyes, he turned to face the source, but his face fell as Costasiella waved a paw in the green light of her bioluminescence. Each tendril tip glowed like a green star. "A̵̢͛r̷̺̉e̷͉̒ ̶͚̔ỳ̵̙o̷̥̍u̶̒͜ ̵͎̀o̶͕̽k̷̬̊?" Her countenance matched her concerned tone.

"Hi, Costasiella." Myrllen sighed and pulled out his paper. Though similar, each letter contained a few differing words. With the limited vocabulary, additional words were useful.

Costasiella used a tendril to point at Myrllen's paper without retrieving her own. Each word illuminated as she touched the paper, the white page reflecting the green glow of her horns. "You live" she pointed, and the tilt of her head implied the questioning tone of the silent communication. "A̵̢͛r̷̺̉e̷͉̒ ̶͚̔ỳ̵̙o̷̥̍u̶̒͜ ̵͎̀o̶͕̽k̷̬̊?" He recognized it as the phrase from earlier.

Her verbalization was noise to Myrllen's ears, and he needed an extra moment to understand what she was asking. He underlined "go live with your family in Draconia" on the paper with a finger.

Costasiella frowned with sad eyes. "Crew family." she pointed with one tendril while she retrieved her paper from her side bag with her hands.

Myrllen frowned a bolt of guilt in his chest like a sword through his heart. He scanned the paper as his crewmate pointed to words on her letter. "No, stay." she accompanied the communication with a concerned look.

"Don't know what to do," Myrllen slowly pointed, barely looking at the page.

The dragoo seemed to understand and nodded, then gently patted Myrllen's head.

He suspected he didn't fully comprehend the meaning behind the motion. "Thanks," Myrllen muttered with a slow nod.

Costasiella smiled and nodded to him as she understood. She sat next to him and dimmed her glow as she looked up at the stars.

Myrllen looked up to the stars, watching them twinkle in the light of the waxing moon. Though he wasn't sure how much he believed in old Stellan beliefs, waxing moons represented new beginnings. However, they also symbolized a loss, as the growing moon overpowered the light of the stars. Stellan magic felt strongest during new moons and clear skies.

He found his Pa's star, right along the back of Equis, the constellation of bravery. Though the star was small and dim compared to the bright twelve-starred equine constellation Myrllen felt his connection to it. All Stellans could feel a connection with their ancestors and people they knew in life. He wondered if Paragon ever felt similarly with Captain Starport.

The Stellan strained his ears, trying to hear the stars, but they remained silent. He sighed a bit and laid on his back, his ears drooping slightly. Of course, they are still silent. He thought back to the first time the stars spoke to him to tell him that Paragon was trustworthy. The voices had been strained to where they became whispers on the wind. He wished it was his story to bring the stars back to the power that his parents remembered from their childhood. Then, he would at least know why they were silent, and maybe one day, he would be the hero to free the stars.

The Stellan sighed softy, and Costastella looked at him with a worried countenance.

Myrllen attempted to smile, though Costasiella used one of her horn tendrils to pull him into a hug. After he got over his shock, he smiled softly. Despite the language barrier, he understood the intent and leaned against her shoulder as if his sister had hugged him. Perhaps I should stay with my family here. "Thank you."

He knew she didn't know his language, but he felt that Costasiella understood.
