11. The Festival (Parte Dos)
You can tell where I was giving up each time. Ugh
// Gabriel
"Holy shit !" Gabriel looked up at the large castle before him. His eyes were wide and full of hope that maybe we could have nice things in life. Sam was smiling at him because he thought he wasn't paying attention, but he was. He really was.
"Come on guys! Theater kids, go with me- g/t, you go with your teacher." They were instructed. The teachers didn't really register that Gabriel was not actually Richard.
Jessica said her goodbyes and walked off with her class, snapping photos for social media.
Gabriel quickly turned Sam around and took a selfie of them in front of the castle, the king and queen waving above them. He held onto Sam's sleeve and pulled him with the rest of the group. They walked passed the gates and Gabriel was completely overwhelmed by everything.
There was music playing and people on stilts and gypsies and so many people! Gabriel was immediately recording for his snapchat story and instagram. He started a new video with the front facing camera.
"Hey. Hey Samwich." Gabriel said, recording them. Sam looked at his phone and rolled his eyes, going back to following the group. Gabriel laughed and captioned it with 'bae wont love me'.
He took more pictures and recorded more videos and held onto Sam's sleeve the entire time.
The group eventually found a gypsy that was selling roses- either waxed or unwaxed. Said something about the wax preserving the flower? That wasn't important- what was important was that Sam purchased an unwaxed, pink rose.
Gabriel eyed it expectantly. "Aw shucks, Sam! You shouldn't have!" He quickly snapped a selfie with him and the rose. 'Bae loves me! He got me a rose!'
"Uh- Gabe- " Sam tried.
He posted it on his story and then started a video. He recored Sam and started talking in the background.
"So Sam, tell everyone why you got me this gorgeous rose."
Sam stared at Gabriel off screen. "Gabriel, this isn't for you." He said seriously.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Gabriel yelled and stopped the video.
'Never mind.'
"Who's it for?" Gabriel demanded to know.
"Jess." Sam replied.
There was an odd sting in his chest and Gabriel gasped, taking a selfie of himself with an offended expression.
'It's apparently for Jess- I HATE YOU JESS- jk'
"I mean she likes flowers and stuff so I thought I'd buy her one. For when we regroup later." Sam shrugged. Gabriel sighed and internally weeped.
"Don't worry, Gabe, I'll buy you something later." He laughed and walked ahead of him. That didn't make Gabriel feel much better.
The group drooled over a stand with hand made glass dragons and other mythical creatures that were far too expensive. They watched shows with a man who was obsessed with swords and the gypsies. Sam was fondled over by multiple girls and was eventually given a flower crown which made him more adorable and Gabriel couldn't look at him.
He had always found Sam attractive and Sam was gay. Well bi but "more on the gay side." But Gabriel still wasn't sure what his sexuality was. He didn't know what his romantic feelings for Sam were- or if he even had any.
But Sam was wearing a flower crown with giant white and pink roses, he had let his hair down and he was laughing at something someone said and he was practically glowing! Gabriel knew he had to have some sort of feelings for him. Who wouldn't?
Gabriel took more pictures of him and added heart emojis around them- he saved the original photos for himself. New wallpapers.
At around noon, the group headed towards the food area for lunch. Sam bought the typical pizza and sat with Gabriel who had decided not to eat.
"Okay so please explain why you of all people, aren't hungry." Sam said staring at him. Gabriel looked up at him and shrugged.
"I don't know...I'm just not hungry."
Sam shrugged and ate his pizza. Gabriel took more pictures of the scenery and even more of Sam. As he took another picture, he could see Jessica's group approaching. Jessica was running towards them. Gabriel braced himself.
"Sam! Gabriel!" She yelled. Sam lit up and turned around quickly enough to receive her hug. She practically threw herself onto him and almost knocked Sam over.
Gabriel rolled his eyes and cleared his throat loudly. Jessica sat down with them and waved at Gabe.
"Here, Jess, Gabe and I got you this." Sam said, handing her the rose. She gasped and took it in her hands, twirling it with her fingers.
That was a lie. Gabriel had no intentions of buying Jessica a rose.
"Thanks, guys! It's beautiful!" She smiled, putting it behind her ear. "Nice flower crown, Sam."
Sam rolled his eyes and immediately the two began talking about certain things that Gabriel didn't understand. He quietly let himself slip further down the bench and scrolled through his phone. He tried to ignore the burning feeling in his chest and got up to look at the small shops near by.
// Jessica
She knew Gabriel had seen her approaching. She heard how he cleared his throat when she hugged Sam in a manner that could only mean jealousy. She watched him slip away from them and walk into a different store.
She knew Gabriel had feelings for Sam.
She knew Sam had some feelings for him too.
But she also had feelings for Sam and she knew he did too.
Sam wasn't entirely gay. He was bisexual. He could have feelings for the both of them.
He was always so nice and considerate of her that it was coming off as flirting. He had just given her a rose! Jessica knew there had to be something between them!
Sam was saying something to her. His lips were moving but there was no sound. Jessica just nodded along and stared off into space.

It was about time for them to leave. They had gathered near the exit but some students were still buying trinkets from the small stands near by. Gabriel had lingered behind Sam and Jessica the entire time since lunch. They were too busy talking to acknowledge him, but Jess seemed sort of out of it.
So here he was, sitting on a nearby rock, waiting for Sam and Jess to return from one of the stands. Sam was probably getting her more flowers or something.
He kept having flashbacks of when Jessica threw herself onto Sam and he kept feeling this burning sensation in his chest. Like anger.
Gabriel hated this feeling.
He didn't want to acknowledge it as the j-word. It didn't feel right.
He didn't have the right to feel that way.
He was the one who just broke into Sam and Jess' life. Jessica was the one who should be feeling that way. Gabriel felt complete and utter regret. He felt so guilty for doing this to them.
But it had been a year and it was too late.
Maybe it wasn't.
The end of the year was approaching and Gabriel could completely ignore them all summer then it would be awkward to talk during the next school year! Maybe future-junior Sam would ask Jessica to be his girlfriend and they'd be happy.
No...ignoring them would just be rude.
And Gabriel didn't have any other friends.
"Hey, Gabe." Stacy waved as she walked by. Gabriel gave her a small wave in return.
Stacy did not count.
Gabriel sighed and pulled his hair out of his bun, running his fingers through it to loosen it up. His scalp hurt from having it up all day.
"We're back!" Jessica's cheery voice said. Gabriel rolled his eyes- which really surprised him. He'd never rolled his eyes at Jessica before.
Gabriel looked up to see Sam looking down at him with a lopsided smile and pink cheeks.
"Did you get more flowers?" Gabriel spat. Shit. What was happening?! This wasn't him!
Jessica's smile fell off her face and Sam scowled.
He grabbed Gabriel's arm and pulled him up to his feet. Sam was looking really hard at him and Gabriel felt embarrassed.
"Sorry...I'm just tired." Gabriel quickly said. "I'm fine." He wondered how many times he had said that this year.
"Well, I got you something." Sam smiled. Gabriel raised a brow.
"You got me something?" Gabriel asked.
Sam gave him a bitch face and held up a gold chain necklace with a white crystal at the end, giving a sort of holographic effect in the sun. A little bit above the crystal was a moon pendant.
"Dude, what the hell?!" Gabriel gasped.
"I got one to match." Sam continued and held up his own necklace. It was the same except his pendant was a star. "I told you I'd buy you something." He winked.
Gabriel quickly put his on around his neck and snapped a selfie of the two of them.
They made their way onto the bus and Gabriel took the window seat this time. He kept twirling the necklace in his fingers and he just couldn't stop smiling.
Jessica still seemed tense and Gabriel could say he was je- yeah no he couldn't say it yet.
"So did you like your gift?" Sam asked getting comfy on Gabe's shoulder again. Gabriel smiled and leaned his head against Sam's.
"Yes...thank you, Sam."
Sam quickly fell asleep on the ride hope and Gabriel managed to take a few pictures of his sleeping moose in the flower crown.
'Maybe he does love me.'
