Chapter 02

"I keep on telling you Katara, it is very suspicious how she suddenly appeared in our village out of nowhere." Sokka said.

"Yes. An eleven or twelve year old little girl is very suspicious. I mean, she might be a mass murderer for all we know."

The water tribe teen glanced over to the girl's bag, went over to it and opened it.

"What are you doing, Sokka?!"

Once he placed his hand into the bag to see what's inside, Sokka shrieked in pain immediately pulling his hand out and dropping the bag onto the ground.
"YEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!"

Seeing that there was a tiny white fuzz ball clamping down hardly onto the same finger he had injured, he hopped around trying to remove the unknown creature. "Let go!!! Let go!!! Let go!!!!!"

Katara sighed at her older brother's helplessness. Just as she was about to help, a voice spoke out from behind her.

"Tu-Tu, it's okay now." Catori had woken up due to Sokka's shouts. Her curly ebony black hair had been released from their buns cascading over her shoulders and down her back.

Listening to her master, Tu-Tu released the water tribe teen's finger and floated over to the black haired girl, resting herself on the girl's shoulder."Tu-Tu." She snuggled up against the thirteen year old.

Catori softly smiled at this action.

Katara turned around for her blue eyes to meet dark purple eyes. This was the first time that she saw eyes of such hue. She wondered where the younger girl was from.

Catori bowed her head. "I sincerely apologize for Tu-Tu attacking you."

"That fur ball should have a muzzle on it!"

"TU-TU!! TU-TU!!! TU-TU!!!!"

'That's some colourful language.' Catori thought. But she knew why Tu-Tu would say such things.

"What you say to me?!" Even though Sokka couldn't comprehend the small furry circular creature, he had a hunch that it was insulting or maybe threatening him.

Katara hit her brother behind the head. "Sokka are you seriously trying to pick a fight with something that cute and small?" Then she said to Catori. "And there is no need to apologize. I bet little Tu-Tu was only trying to protect your bag from being searched by my moron of a brother."

"Hey Katara!"

"I understand. But I can also see why he would want to search my bag. I am a stranger after all. That is why I apologized for Tu-Tu. " Catori stated.

"Mhmm!" Sokka nodded his head. "Somebody who gets it!"

She got up, introducing herself. "My name is Catori. But I am usually called Tori." Then she asked. "May, I see the finger that Tu-Tu bit?"

"Yeah, name is Sokka." He showed her his finger, speaking. "That fuzzball got some teeth, though it looks like it doesn't have any. This wound is nothing to a warrior."

"TU-TU!" Tu-Tu shook in anger of being called a fuzz ball.

"Says the one who was crying and hopping about to get Tu-Tu to stop biting his finger." The water tribe girl noted.

Catori giggled at this.

"And my name is Katara as you might have heard."

Before Sokka could make a retort to what his younger sister had said, he felt a warm pain-easing sensation embrace his injured finger. The redness of his wound was vanishing and his wound was closing. The soft lavender hued light that was omitting from Catori's right hand was healing his bruise. Once the bruise was completely healed, the lavender light vanished and Catori pulled away.

"There! Good as new." She smiled.

There was a few seconds of silence before the siblings' brain processed what had occurred.

"Great another magic user. Katara's one. You're one. No wonder why the beginning of your names sound similar." Examining his healed finger, he commented. "But I got to say it's much useful than Katara's water magic. Thanks."

"I am not a magic user." She tilted her head to the side then continued. "I am sure the first syllable of our names sounding the same is a coincidence. And your welcome."

Ignoring her brother's statements, Katara's blue eyes were filled with interest. She was sure what the girl had done wasn't water-bending, air-bending, earth-bending and especially not fire-bending. "How did you do that?"

Catori answered. "I used the healing aspect of  my spirit energy."

"Spirit Energy?" The older girl repeated quizzically.

"Spirit Energy?" Sokka said then joked. "You must be some kind of spirit since you could use spirit energy." He did air quotients on the word spirit.

"That's right, I am spirit. And using spiritual energy is a special power of mine."

••••

After Sokka had a good fright and had fallen down onto his rear, the two teens' grandmother had came in.

"I have heard of stories about the spirit Alma falling in love with a human." Kanna stated.

Catori nodded her head. "Mhmm. Yes, that is likely the story about my mom and dad. My mom is the spirit Alma." She divulged. "I along with Tu-Tu came to this world from the spirit world to find out about more and to explore the world my dad came from."

"Then that explains everything. The spirit Alma's, your mother's aurora. And you suddenly appearing that night." Katara stated.

A stick poked Catori's shoulder again. Her finger twitched.

"Sokka, what are you doing?" Katara asked somewhat annoyed by her older brother's antics and swatted the stick away.

"Hey, if she is a spirit like she says she is, why didn't the stick go through her?" The water tribe teen questioned.

"Weren't you listening, Sokka? She's human too."

"And the daughter of the spirit Alma at that." Kanna added.

"Still trying to figure out how she even exists. But anyway since you're the daughter of this Amma. Can you grant wishes?" Asked Sokka. Then he went on to say. "I want an endless supply of meat. Oh, wait no, maybe a new boomerang. Or to be-"

"- My mom's name is Alma." She corrected. "And I don't have the ability to grant wishes." Catori disclosed.

Kanna shook her head in silence at her grandson's desires.

"Even if you she could grant wishes Sokka, why would you ask for meat of all things?"

"Hey, there is nothing wrong with a life-time supply of meat!"

••••

After introducing her to the villagers of the Southern Water Tribe, Katara showed Catori around the small village, answering the numerous of questions the thirteen year old girl had to ask. She really could had heard the intrigue in the girl's voice as she had did.

"I really am in the South Pole!" Catori sighed in happiness, twirling around one time. "This is spectacular!!!"

Katara chuckled at this. "Even though it isn't much, I hope it at least met some of your expectations."

The girl's dark purple eyes twinkled as she nodded her and said. "Mhmm!!! Yes!! It's like I have been absorbed into the books I have read on the Southern Water Tribe!!! Plus-" She started scoping up some snow and finished. "-This is the first time, I've ever seen and felt real life snow!" Catori squashed the snow in her hands.

"There's no snow in the spirit world?" Asked Katara.

"The realm, where I live, it's similar to this world's season called spring." Catori said. "You could have always smelled the aroma of the freshly blossomed flowers in the air."

"Then.... I guess-"

Catori who was waiting for Katara to complete her sentence after several seconds turned around. She asked. "-Guess what?"

Catching, the child off guard a ball of snow hit her.

"I guess, this would be your first snowball fight, then!" Katara exclaimed.

Quickly gathering snow and trying to form it into a ball as best as she could, Catori spoke. "That's not fair! I wasn't prepared!!!"

Katara smiled, "there is no fairness in love and war, young one." She tried to mimick a wise old sage as she said this.

Then an intense but fun snowball fight ensued.

••••

Catori was laying on the ground with her arms and legs spread wide open in the snow angel she had made.

This was the same for Katara. After hearing about how it was Catori first time even being around snow, she wanted the girl to know the joys of it.

Catori turned her head, glancing at Katara. "Is it okay, if I ask you a question?"

Katara turned her head to face the dark purple eyed girl as well. "Go on right ahead."

"You're a water-bender, aren't you?" She quizzed. "When I first met you, I sensed an energy like feeling that was akin to water being omitted from you." The thirteen year old tried to the explain the reason for her question as best as she could.

"How can I answer this? Yes and no. I am a water bender but as you may I have sensed, I am the only one in my village." She responded. "I have no one to teach me bending."

'....no one to teach her bending.' Catori sat up after this thought. "Katara, I've read water-bending scrolls before! I could remember everyone of them clearly! All I need is some paper and something to draw with!"

Katara perked up. "Really?! That would really help me with my bending!! Thank you!!"

All of the excitement of being able to practice water-bending from scroll illustrations had been thrown out the window, once she had seen Catori's replicas of the so call 'water-bending scrolls.'

The girl's shoulders drooped, the brightness in her dark purple eyes evidently got dimmer. "....Sorry Katara. If only there was someway I could show my memories to you. Then you would at least have some guidance in learning how to water-bend. I got your hopes up for nothing." She wanted to do something for Katara other than say 'thank you' for what she had done for her.

Katara did a small smile, patting the girl on her shoulder. "That's alright, Tori. It's the thought that counts."

Catori glared at the mess on one of the papers she had drawn on.

A thought suddenly came to her mind. "Wait Tori, can you possibly execute those moves you saw on the scrolls and show me?"

Catori nodded her head her dark purple eyes still on the paper. "Mhmm. Easily." Then the brightness slowly returned to her eyes once she had realized the question she had answered without any thought. She smiled then jumped up. "I'll be able to do that!"

••••

After this Catori asked for permission to stay in the Southern Water Tribe's village for at least three months. Of course in return for them providing housing, she would help around the village as best as she could.

She would also use this time to get to know more about the South Pole, the Water Tribe's people culture, taste the food they made, make friends and provide assistance to Katara.

The villagers had no problem with this.

Then days went by.

••••

Hugging his pillow tightly to him with drool oozing from his mouth as he slept, the water tribe teen felt something poke his arm. He turned over still in deep slumber, using his hand to try and shoo away whatever poked him.

A few seconds later, he was poked again and again. The pokes got harder every time one landed.

"....Katara, quit it. I am trying to get some shut eye." He said still in the realm of dreams.

No one responded to him.

The pokes stopped.

Then they suddenly started back up again. He threw his blanket off himself, opening his blue eyes and sitting up. "I said- WAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" Sokka screamed.

A few tents over, Katara and Catori heard his scream.

"I wonder what he's screaming for, now." Katara said, washing one of the fruits she was going to use to make breakfast in a few minutes.

Catori who was helping her responded. "Probably nothing~." A mischievous smile graced the girl's face.

Noticing this, the water tribe girl asked with a chuckle. "What did you do?"

"I was just finishing what he started, when he poked me several times with a stick before."

It took Katara a few seconds to recall that incident, because it had been two weeks from since that day.

••••

A week later.

"TORIII!!!!!" An angry Sokka opened the tent flaps in a fury as he tramped in.

"What's the matter with-" Katara turned around and her voice died down, noticing what was on her older brother's face.

Catori did too.

The two girls burst out into laughter.

Sokka had a muzzle with a giant lock, locked onto his face.

"It suits you Sokka." Katara shoulders shook as she covered her mouth.

Catori raised her hands up in surrender. "I swear, it wasn't me!! It was Tu-Tu!!!" She exclaimed her innocence as she tried to control her giggles.

"Tu-Tu.~"

Hmm, at first I was thinking about pairing Catori up with Aang or maybe even Sokka, but I decided against these ideas immediately after. I don't want to ruin any canon ships and I kind have grown out of the phase of pairing a canon character with an original character. So Catori may get together with another original character.

Trivia:

• Tu-Tu really is the one who muzzled Sokka. Catori had nothing to do with it.

• Catori's spiritual energy/powers is actually inspired by Avatar: The Legend of Korra when Kuvira uses spirit energy from the spirit vines as a weapon. But Catori's spiritual energy is a bit different from it.

• A humanoid female spirit had actually fallen in love with an earth kingdom prince and married him in the Avatar Comic. Her name is Tienhai.
