Chapter 4
Zoey and Jimmy swim down. The Nerdlucks slither out from under a rock ledge. The reflection of Zoey and Jimmy swimming in the bright yellow eyes of the pair merge together, forming a projection on Juniper's magical bubble. Back in her lair, Juniper Montage watches her.
Juniper: Yes, hurry home, princess. We wouldn't want to miss old daddy's celebration, now, would we? Ha! Celebration indeed. Bah! In my day, we had fantastical feasts when I lived in the palace.
Juniper picks up a scared little shrimp and eats him.
Juniper: And now, look at me - wasted away to practically nothing - banished and exiled and practically starving, while he and his flimsy fish-folk celebrate.
Juniper extends her tentacles and floats down to the bottom of her lair.
Juniper: Well, I'll give 'em something to celebrate soon enough. Nerdlucks!
The camera cuts to the Nerdlucks, who can magically hear Juniper.
Juniper: I want you to keep an extra close watch on this pretty little daughter of his. (Looks at her mirror) She may be the key to Caleb's undoing...
The magic mirror change Juniper's reflection of mirror to Juniper Monster before completely going black.
King Caleb sits on his throne with Elliot by his shoulder as he admonishes Zoey. Jimmy watches from afar worriedly.
Caleb: I just don't know what we're going to do with you, young lady.
Zoey: Daddy, I'm sorry, I just forgot, I -
Caleb: As a result of your careless behavior -
Elliot: (poking out between Caleb's crown and interjecting) Careless and reckless behavior!
Caleb: - the entire celebration was, er -
Elliot: (interjecting once again) Well, it was ruined! That's all. Completely destroyed! This concert was to be the pinnacle of my distinguished career. Now thanks to you I am the laughing stock of the entire kingdom!
Jimmy: (rushing out to confront Elliot angrily) But it wasn't her fault! (nervously speaking as he realizes what he's gotten himself into) Ah - well - first, ahh, this shark chased us - yeah - yeah! And we tried to-
King Caleb and Elliot look to one another, raising a brow, unconvinced.
Jimmy: But we couldn't - and - grrrrrrrrr - and - and we - (spinning around) whoooaaaaaa - oh, and then we were safe. But then this duck came, and it was this is this, and that is that, and -
Caleb: Duck?
Jimmy gasps, putting his hands up to his mouth, realizing he gave Zoey away. Jimmy hides behind Zoey as she looks back angrily at him.
Caleb: (rising from his throne) What? Oh - you went up to the surface again, didn't you? Didn't you?
Zoey backs up, wide-eyed.
Zoey: (shrugging) Nothing - happened...
Caleb: (slapping his hand to his face) Oh, Zoey, How many times must we go through this? You could've been seen by one of those barbarians - by - by one of those humans!
Zoey: Daddy, they're not barbarians!
Caleb: They're dangerous. (picking up Zoey's chin) Do you think I want to see my youngest daughter snared by some fish-eater's hook?
Zoey: (backing away and shaking her head) I'm sixteen years old - I'm not a child anymore -
Caleb: (wagging his finger angrily) Don't you take that tone of voice with me young lady.
Zoey: Well-
Caleb: As long as you live under my ocean, you'll obey my rules!
Zoey: If- But if you would just listen -
Caleb: (turning away) Not another word - and I am never, never to hear of you going to the surface again. Is that clear?
Zoey's lip quivers.
Zoey: (exhales and swims away with Jimmy tailing behind) I get the message...
Caleb sits on his throne and rests his head in his hand.
Elliot: Hm! Teenagers... They think they know everything. You give them an inch, they swim all over you.
Caleb: (with a concerned expression) Do you, er, think I - I was too hard on her?
Elliot: Definitely not. Why, if Zoey was my daughter, I'd show her who was boss. None of this "flitting to the surface" and other such nonsense. No, sir - I'd keep her under tight control.
Caleb rubs his chin and suddenly has a lightbulb moment.
Caleb: You're absolutely right, Elliot.
Elliot: (arms crossed) Of course.
Caleb: Ariel needs constant supervision.
Elliot: Constant.
Caleb: Someone to watch over her - to keep her out of trouble.
Elliot: All the time -
Caleb: (poking Elliot in the belly) And you are just the crab to do it.
Elliot's eyes go wide
Elliot jitters down the palace halls, mumbling to himself.
Elliot: How do I get myself into these situations? I should be writing symphonies - not tagging along after some headstrong teenager.
He sees Zoey and Jimmy sneaking off and follows.
Elliot: Hmm? What is that girl up to?
