Crystal

I hurried away from Flint's house. Tears forming in the corners of my eyes, I couldn't believe someone would want to through their life away like that.

"Crystal! Crystal! Where are you going?" A deep voice demanded, causing me to jump. Quickly, I wiped away my tears and looked up into his eyes.

"Hey, hey. What's wrong," he whispered, his palm cupping my cheek.

I gave him a small, sad, smile and sniffled.

"Nothing, nothing's wrong," my voice came out an octave higher.

"Crystie," the blue eyes filled with worry, as they flickered all over my face trying to read me.

"Dylan, it's fine. I've fixed everything," I desperately tried to reassure him. His blonde hair was combed to the side like always, and it made my fingers itch to mess it up.

Dylan froze and looked down at me with disapproval. My instincts took over, and I walked past him in order to avoid confrontation.

"Crystal," he called after me.

"Crystal."

"What did you do? Crystal!" I heard him jog after me, and I started running. I had to get away from him. I had to, staying and listening wasn't an option.

"Crystal! What did you do?!" Dylan demanded, his voice shrill as he grabbed my elbow, pulling me back and into his chest.

"Noth--" I couldn't get the word out. His blue eyes were welling with tears and the way he looked down at me made me feel ashamed.

"What did you do?" He asked earnestly, his voice cracked.

"I got you off The List," I whispered, not meeting his gaze.

"Why? How? What?" Dylan breathed out, dropping my elbow in awe.

"Flynnt, the guy that lives down the street, he wanted to be on The List. He didn't make it, so I made a deal. He's going to pretend he's you--"

"No," Dylan shook his head, turning away from me.

"Dylan! You have to do this, okay? Your parents need you, Natalie needs you--"

"Don't you think I know that? God d*mn it Crystal!" He shouted, turning around to face me. "But I can't lie. I could get in so much trouble, you would too--"

"Dylan, I need you to do this for me," I whispered, looking up at him.

"And what about you? You can't go there by yourself--"

"Dylan, I'm not going right away," I whispered, not meeting his eyes.

"What do you mean?" He asked, blue eyes wary.

My hand cradled my stomach, and I looked up at him. My own eyes started tearing up, "Dylan, I'm--I'm pregnant."

He froze.

"You can't be. We didn't--I didn't--I made sure--"

"The night you told me you got a job at that law firm," I said softly, not meeting his gaze. I couldn't stop the tears, call it hormones or whatever, and I felt them slide down my cheek.

I sniffled in surprise when I felt his warm hands wiping the tears away.

"Crystal, look at me. We'll make this work, I'll--I'll find a way. I promise," he whispered, a smile on his lips. His other hand found my stomach, and I let out a little giggle. "I love you, and whoever this will be, I'll love it too."

"They're giving me six months--us six months," I whispered excitedly, looking down at my pelvis.

"You've known for three months, and you didn't tell me?"

I looked up at him, touching his arm gently, "I didn't know how to tell you. You were caught up in work--and my bump's just starting to show. I just--I just didn't know how to--"

"It's okay. What's important is that I know now," Dylan smiled, planting a kiss on my lips. "I'm glad it was you."

"Me too," I whispered softly, letting out a satisfied, happy, sigh.

"Let me take you somewhere. Just the two of us, like we used to. Before work, before college. Let me take you somewhere nice, and you can get all ready," Dylan's boyish grin was full force, and his thumb rubbing circles on my hand sent shivers up and down my spine.

"I'd love that," I whispered, kissing the top of his hand.
