Kion's lost brother

Lion King and Guard crossover

Kion shook his young mane and let the gentle wind blow through it. He was on a quick patrol around the western border, the one bordering the jungle. He made a swift round and was beginning to head back to Pride Rock when he heard something.

"Kion!" a voice called out.

He turned his head and his amber eyes landed on a female painted dog. She was trotting up to him, following the border. Two leopards were jogging right behind her, staying at a slight distance. Both of the leopards were larger and more muscular than others of their kind. They were the dagger-claw brothers, know for their keen senses and effective fighting strategies.

The painted dog trotted up to Kion and said, "Kion! I was hoping I might catch you!" She stopped walking a few feet away from him, without much of a greeting or even a smile. "I wanted to ask you something,"

"I figured as much," Kion said to the dog with an unamused face. But he was willing to give this scoundrel a chance since she seemed sincere enough. Besides, he believed it was the right thing to do. "What is it, Sonya?"

"Well, I was doing my everyday routine and went over through the jungle, and I came across an infant lion cub. I thought you, being the prince of the land, might know something about it. The baby looked like what Simba would've when he was a cub, but it had a brown tail tuft." Sonya said, her eyes twinkled with a hint of mischief.

But Kion didn't notice the glimmer in her eye, for he was worried about the cub.

"Was it alone?" he asked quickly.

"I don't know, I was there very briefly," she replied. "But, I wanted to ask you if it might be you brother's cub. He looked a lot like him."

Kion sighed. He should have known this bounty hunter wasn't in the least concerned about the cub's safety. She was always just in it for the reward or to cause mischief around the land.

"No," Kion started, rolling his eyes. "Kovu and Kiara haven't had a cub-"

"-No, not your brother-in-law, Kovu! I'm speaking of your blood brother!" Sonya said, changing her calm tone to a more powerful one.

"Sonya, we both know I don't have a brother. What is this leading up to?" Kion asked forcefully, starting to catch onto her scheme.

"What do you mean, Kion? Of course, you have a brother!" Sonya exclaimed, acting like Kion was crazy.

"What twisted scheme is you mind coming up with, Sonya?" Kion growled. His lip lifted up, revealing his long line of pearly white teeth. He stepped up and got in her face. "Tell me!"

The leopard brothers began to advance towards Kion. They saw him threatening Sonya, and almost tackled him.

But Sonya spoke before they acted, "Down boys," she said when she heard them growling.

She raised an eyebrow, and Kion backed down scowling.

"Years ago," Sonya began. "after King Simba and Queen Nala had taken over the Pridelands again, the land began to reflourish back to its original glory. Queen Nala gave birth to a son, the first cub born since the dark ages. His name was Kopa."

"Heart," Kion mumbled.

"Yes, why exactly he was given such a name when he was supposed to be a valiant king, I don't know," Sonya said, revealing her true personality and displease with the King. "But let Simba do what he wants. He is the king after all. Anyway, young Kopa grew from infanthood to cubhood with no problems. Nala was worried about the outsiders, but kept her worries to herself, as they were not popular opinion among the other Pridelanders. Well, one day Kopa went off to play in Umbali fields. Nala gave him a stern warning to watch for outsiders and be home before dark. Kopa agreed and ran off to play. But he became distracted.

"He lost track of time, the sun sank, the stars appeared, and Kopa had a ball playing with fireflies. Only when he heard a rustle in the grass did he remember his mother's warning. But by then it was too late. Zira came and attacked him and left him for dead. Word got back to the king and queen, but when they reached the place of the attack, the body was gone. There were signs of the attack, blood on the ground, and bent grasses, but no Kopa. For some reason, this upset them even more. But Kopa wasn't dead like they assumed.

"Zira's daughter, Vitani, took Kopa to a hidden place in the woods and nursed him back to health. The prince grew and Vitani and Kopa separated. Then, one day Kopa disappeared. Vitani became bitter and turned to hate the Pridelanders. But Kopa had just run off into the jungle and started a new pride for himself."

Kion's mind reeled with millions of different thoughts. He had a brother? His parents have never told him? His emotions changed with every few thoughts. He glanced up at Sonya. His eyes showed his deep thoughts that had surfaced during the story.

He nodded in thanks and said, "Thanks for the info, I have to go,"

He ran off towards Priderock without another word.

"Why did you tell him all that?" The older leopard brother asked, stepping up next to her.

"Yeah, that wasn't part of the plan." The other said.

"The plan has changed, but only slightly. Just follow my lead, boys." Sonya said, with a smile.

"Mom! Dad!" Kion called as he trotted around Priderock, searching for his parents.

He galloped past the den.

"Kion?" he heard someone say.

Kion backed up and looked into the den. He saw Vitani and a few other lions resting inside. Vitani was walking towards him, her face showing her interest.

"Hey, Kion," she said, sauntering up to him. She saw his face. "Whoa, you look like you've just seen a ghost! What's wrong?"

"Uh-well. . ." his voice trailed off. He wasn't sure he wanted to tell her, as he was afraid to upset her.

"There you are, Kion!" Fuli trotted up to him, a scowl on her face. "We've been looking everywhere for you! Why didn't you come back to the lair?"

"I-I got distracted," he replied. "Just tell everyone I'm busy, and I'll be there in a little while."

Fuli lowered her ears. She frowned in a disappointed way.

"But, Kion, today's game night. Kiara, Ono, Beshte, Bunga, Tiifu, and Zuri are all at the lair, waiting for us." Fuli said.

"Oh, and I have to pick up Jasiri!" Kion sighed. "I forgot,"

"Might want to get to it," Fuli said.

Kion frowned and lowered his ears.

"Wait! Hold on a second." Vitani stepped forward. "What happened before? Why were you calling for your parents so frantically?"

"Oh-uh, I just wanted to-uh talk to my. . .father! Yes, my father," Kion said.

"About?" Vitani encouraged.

"I saw-uh Sonya today, and wanted to ask dad about something she said, y'know, another one of her shenanigans." he stuttered. He glanced towards the outlands. "I really have to get Jasiri,"

"Well, then, go!" Fuli exclaimed. "I'll tell everyone you're coming."

"Yeah, okay," Kion said. He lept off of the rock and ran towards the outlands. Fuli followed his example and sped back to the lair.

Vitani shook her head, "Teens,"
