Chapter 1

Fuli walked through the Pride Lands, not far from Pride Rock, she knew today would be an eventful day. Earlier that day, Simba, the King of the Pride Lands and also Kion's father, told him and the Lion Guard to take the fight with Scar into the Outlands. Kion had assigned the Guard to gather the animals of the Pride Lands to Pride Rock to fight in the upcoming battle, she was going to gather the crocs and antelopes, Beshte was going to gather the elephants and rhinos, Anna and Ono were going to gather to birds, and Bunga...well Bunga was going to get the galagos.

Fuli walked over to the lake where the crocodiles resided. "Makuu!" She shouted.

"What is it?" Came an arrogant reply.

Typical Makuu, she thought to herself. She then rolled her eyes and spoke; "We're going to invade the Outlands with all the Pride Landers help. We need the crocodiles to participate in the attack."

"Alright, fine." Makuu replied arrogantly, then he shouted. "Float! The Pride Lands needs us to participate in an attack on the Outlands!" Makuu's float obediently got out of the water and followed Fuli to Pride Rock.

When they got to Pride Rock Fuli saw that the rest of the Lion Guard had gathered all of the animals, they were all training for the battle.

"Alright crocs, you know the drill." Fuli said. The 'drill' meant battle training for defense on the Outlander attacks. But this time, it was the Pride Landers attacking. She then lied down at the foot of a hill, it had been a long day for her. Then, she heard something, it was Kion walking nearby, oblivious to her presence. He was so nearby that she could hear very faint singing.
Is this my last night
Before the biggest day of my life
Can one more big fight
Put an end to all this strife
Will we finally end this war
Who can know for sure
Fuli felt a pang of guilt at his words, he had became thrust into a war at such a young age, and he grew up like that. Sometimes, it seemed he forgot what it was like to have fun - he was always surprised when the Guard offered him a day off occasionally. He had carried the guilt of accidentally summoning Scar back all this time. He'd also sometimes have nightmares about Scar destroying the Pride Lands and... himself and his family. Fuli walked near him, him still being oblivious to her presence. She started to sing.
There goes my worried friend
Taking time to think on his own
But when he must defend
He won't be alone
I'll be there by his side
Go with him stride by stride
She then saw Beshte and Bunga standing nearby, they then joined in.
So bring it on tomorrow
When the Pride Lands unite
We're going in to battle
With bravery
And might
We'll always do what's right
We'll stand as one and fight
With the end almost in sight
On the last night
Fuli then saw Ono fly by, scouting the area. He then, also started to sing.
Everything looks safe and sound
But I want to be sure
One more fly around
Will help reassure
The skies all seem clear
No sign of danger here
Fuli then heard Kion start to sing again.
Yeah, I know everything's in place
Still those doubt's make my thoughts race
Need someone to put my mind at rest
Before I take this final test
The Guard joined up at the top of the hill.
So bring it on tomorrow
When the Pride Lands unite
We're going into battle
With bravery and might
We'll always do what's right
We'll stand as one and fight
With the end almost in sight
Fuli glanced a reassuring look at Kion, reminding him he won't be alone.
On the last night
Kion finished, then the Guard all walked away to continue training for the battle. Fuli cast once last glance at the team, then walked away to continue battle training with the Pride Landers. She knew that, no matter what, Scar will be defeated. As a very wise animal once told her; 'Good always prevails over evil, in time.' Scar will be defeated, and she would make sure of that.

XXXX

It was time for the attack on the Outlands. The previous night, Janja had came to them with valuable information, the way how to defeat Scar. Fuli at first doubted Janja truly switched sides, and she still doubted it now, but, as Makuu had made a good point then, that 'if Janja's information is useful, we should use it to beat Scar.' Now, he, and the rest of the Pride Landers were going to attack the Outlands. Fuli then heard the Pride Landers battle cry, it means time to charge the attack.

XXXX
"We'll fight for what's right," Kion began.

"Pride Landers Unite!" The Pride Landers finished.

They then charged in, blood was everywhere. ( AN: Let's just pretend where the battle was shown on screen in the episode are the only places where there wasn't blood) Claws were unsheathed and ripping out fur. Fuli tried not to look, as she and the Lion Guard needed to get to the top of the volcano to defeat Scar, as Janja had said before, 'Only Kion can defeat him, by using the Roar. But it's gotta be the most powerful Roar you've got. And you've got to Roar inside the top of the volcano so the flames of the volcano overwhelm Scar.'

Luckily, the Pride Landers, Jasiri and her clan, and Janja and his clan held off the enemies while the Lion Guard made their way to the top of the volcano.

When they got there, Scar, as expected, was waiting for them.

"Kion, Lion Guard. Welcome." Scar said menacingly.

"He does know why we're here doesn't he?" Bunga whispered to Kion, but he ignored him.

"I know why you think you're here." Scar said slyly. "But destiny can be full of surprises."

"Ushari, now!" Then, faster then Fuli could blink, a red snake jumped up and bit Kion in the eye. Kion fell to the ground. The Guard all gasped in horror and shock. No!

"Ushari!" Bunga exclaimed, then tackled the snake off of Kion. Kion rolled back over, the cut on his eye now visible. Fuli was horrified. It's just like Scar's

Scar laughed maniacally, then started to mock Kion. "Sisi ni sawa Kion. Now you'll have a scar, just like me. Sisi ni sawa means we're the same," Scar mocked. "Though you're made of flesh, and I'm made of flame." A low growl escaped Fuli, barely audible to those around her and she took a step forward.

"We're not the same!" Kion yelled, "I'll never be like you Scar!"

XXXX
'I'll never be like you Scar!' Kion replayed that sentence over and over again in his head, just a few minutes ago, he had Roared at Bunga, his best friend. I could have killed him. The horrific thought lingered in his mind. At least we defeated Scar, he tried to comfort himself. And the Outlands in under good leadership, Jasiri, the good hyena, is in charge. But then, the pain of his newly acquired scar came back. He grunted in pain and started pawing at his scar. The rest of the Guard didn't seem to notice he had fallen behind as they all headed to Rafiki, hoping that he could help Ono, as Ono's sight got impaired as he flew through the smoke and ash of the volcano to save Bunga. Bunga had fell in the volcano when Ushari tried to strike Kion again, Bunga pushed Ushari into the volcano, killing him. Bunga fell in too, but Ono flew in and mustered up enough strength to pull Bunga out. Kion winced in pain again.

"You know, pawing at it won't help it, it'll just make it worse." Kion heard a voice say. He looked up, the voice turned out to be Fuli. "Fuli? When did you get here?" "I've been here," she replied flatly. "The rest of the Guard is almost at the Lair so Rafiki can help Ono, I noticed you weren't there, so I went back and found you." She also said something else, but Kion wasn't paying attention, the immense pain in his scar was too much. Oh, Great Kings and Queens, please make this pain go away. He pleaded silently and desperately. Fuli must have noticed he was in pain, because he saw her face turn to concern.

"Kion," she said, her voice soft and comforting. "Let's take you to Rafiki, he'll know how to help." Kion wasn't normally one to show weakness, but right now, he would do anything to make this pain go away. He reluctantly nodded. "Let's go," Fuli said. Then they started walking to the Lion Guard Lair, where they knew Rafiki would be.

They arrived at the Lion Guard Lair at the same time as the rest of the Guard. They all walked in and saw Rafiki painting more of the Pride Lands history on the walls of the Lair. He turned out to be painting the fire at Pride Rock that had happened the night before. Then, apparently Rafiki finally noticed them.

"Ah, hello Kion, Lion Guard, hehe!" Rafiki said in a crazy tone. "What brings you here today?" He asked inquisitively. Kion opened his mouth to reply, but then he got hit by another pain in his scar. He tried his best to hide it though. He felt Fuli's paw rest on his shoulder in a reassuring manner.

"Kion got bitten by a snake and he can't control the Roar, and Ono's eyes...he can't see well anymore." Fuli informed Rafiki.

"I think it was the vog in the volcano. Common knowledge, really." Ono told him sadly.

"Sit here, Ono," Rafiki instructed. Ono hopped over to a large rock in the Lair, almost like a bed. Rafiki then held Ono's eyes open so he could examine them. "Hmm. Mm? Yes, yes" Kion heard Rafiki mutter as he examined Ono's eyes. "I'm afraid you are correct, Ono," Rafiki stated. "The vog has seriously hurt your eyesight."

"Can't you just fix him like you did last time?" Bunga asked.

"Hmm. Last time Ono merely had dirt in his eye. This is more serious," Rafiki stated gravely. "Only time will tell of your vision will return to full strength."

"Oh..." Ono said sadly, then coughed. Kion felt a pang of pity for the egret, he didn't deserve this - if it weren't for Ono, Bunga wouldn't be here right now. Oh, Ono... this is all my fault. Bunga fell in the volcano saving me. And you were blinded saving him.

"Don't be sad Ono," Makini, Rafiki's apprentice, tried to cheer him up. "Everyone knows you saved Bunga's life!"

"That's right," Kion agreed. "You were the Keenest of Sight when you saw Bunga falling into the volcano."

"And you were the Bravest to dive after me," Bunga stated.

"You were the Fastest to reach him in time," Fuli said.

"And the Strongest to pull him out," said Beshte.

"And the Fiercest to never give up." Kion finished. He hoped that he, Makini, and the rest of the Guard had lifted Ono's spirits.

He heard Ono say quietly, "I am the Lion Guard," before he drifted off to sleep.

"Ono?" Makini said worried.

"Shwari, Makini. Ono needs rest. Now Kion, about your eye..." He said as he walked over to Kion, who was currently pawing at his scar.

"It's more than just my eye, ever since Ushari bit me I...I'm not feeling quite right. Kion replied unsurely.

"Hmm, yes... I have seen this sort of injury before, and it is not good." Kion's heartbeat quickened at that. What's going to happen to me?! He thought fearfully.

"Scar said it's the Mark of Evil. He said it'll make Kion turn bad." Bunga said.

"Honey badger!" Rafiki exclaimed madly. "Hush!" This made Kion even more afraid, The way Rafiki told Bunga to be quiet... is it true I'll turn to the darkside? I can't! I won't! Kion's dark thoughts made his heart quicken even more.

Rafiki bent down to examine Kion. "Your heart is racing Kion. I'm surprised you are able to stay so calm."

"It's not easy," Kion admitted. "I even Roared at Bunga by accident," he said, ashamed.

"Makini, Tuliza plant." Rafiki instructed her.

"Yes Rafiki, of course," she responded. Kion was confused at this. Tuliza? What's that? He saw Makini walk towards her and Rafiki's pile of herbs and remedies. She pulled out a purple flower. Is that Tuliza? Kion asked himself. She gave the purple flower to Rafiki and he held them out for Kion.

"Chew on the Tuliza blossoms, Kion," Rafiki instructed him. Kion was reluctant. What if it tastes bad? Then, he remembered the pain that came with his scar. He would trade that in for a bad tasting flower any day. So, he bent his head over and ate the blossoms from Rafiki's hand. He was shocked by their taste, but it helped the pain with his scar, and he felt better.

"Better?" Makini asked him.

"Mm-hmm," Kion replied.

"The Tuliza will help soothe your discomfort," Rafiki said. Kion immediately brightened up at that. "But it is not a cure." Rafiki finished. Kion tried to hide his disappointment. Am I going to be cursed with this scar forever? He thought, scared.

"Kion! Your face!" He heard a voice shout. It was Kiara. His pelt burned with embarrassment, his scar was an eyesore, wasn't it?

"Rafiki, will he be alright?" Nala, his mother, asked worriedly.

"It's just a scar, right?" Simba asked Rafiki nervously.

"The venom from Ushari's bite is still inside Kion, if the venom stays inside him too long, he will no longer know the difference between right and wrong."

"Just like Scar." He heard Bunga mutter. His heartbeat quickened once more. I'm going to go insane?! I won't be able to control myself anymore? No! This can't be true!

"You can help him get better, right?" Nala asked Rafiki, she seemed afraid of the answer she got. Her eyes looked faraway, as if she was recalling a distant memory.

"There is no cure for Kion here in the Pride Lands." Rafiki told them. No! This can't happen!

"What?!" Simba shouted.

"No!" Nala shouted in horror, her eyes were even more faraway now, she looked at Kion differently than she had before.

"But there is still hope!" Rafiki exclaimed, obviously hoping to reassure the King and Queen. "If Kion is to get better, he must seek out the Tree of Life."

"Oh yeah! The Tree of Life! Makini exclaimed. "That's where animals with nowhere else to go go to seek help!"

"Wait, you've been there?" Bunga asked.

"Yeah! but it's been a while." Makini replied.

"Yes! The Tree of Life is where I first met Makini!" Kion saw Rafiki walk over to a painting he had made on the walls of the Lair. "And the Lions of the Past told me she would be the next Royal Mjuzi." The Royal Mjuzi was the advisor and healer to the King and Queen of the lands.

"The Tree of Life is a safe place for animals who are hurt or sick," Makini explained.

"Or if only a few of their kind are left. The Tree of Life is very far away and not easy to find. But their are landmarks to help guide your way." Rafiki told them. Ono flew up to the wall in the Lair where Rafiki had paintings of the landmarks. Rafiki laid his 'bakora staff' on the paintings, to tell the truth he was one of very few who actually called it a 'bakora staff.' Most animals felt no need to give it a special name, and most animals referred to it as a normal stick.

Ono half flew, half hopped, up to where Rafiki was near the paintings. "Hmm, yes. I see," Kion heard Ono mutter to himself.

Rafiki laughed. "Yes, yes. Just follow the paintings on the Mojo Kwa Mojo stones. It is only at the Tree of Life that Kion may find the cure he needs." So there is hope after all. Kion thought, trying to reassure himself.

"Then that's what I need to do." Kion said, determined. Nothing will stop me from getting to the Tree of Life, and I mean absolutely nothing.

"Maybe the Tree of Life can help me, too." Ono said brightly.

"Oh, I'm sure it could!" Makini exclaimed.

"Then we'll all go with you." Bunga announced.

"I don't think so." Kion gave him a warning glare.

"Why not?" Fuli asked. "With Scar gone and Jasiri in charge of the Outlands, there's finally peace in the Pride Lands.

"Mom? Dad?" Kion asked, he was asking their opinion on that.

"After everything you've done for the Pride Lands, I think it's okay for the Lion Guard to help you." Nala said reassuringly.

"I agree. Go, Kion, and have the Lion Guard go with you." agreed Simba.

"Poa," Beshte said quietly.

"Hey, wait, Ono's not the Keenest of Sight anymore. Doesn't the Lion Guard still need that?" Bunga asked.

"Bunga!" Fuli exclaimed. You don't say that in front of him Bunga!

"No, Bunga's right. I'm not Keenest of Sight. But I know who is." Ono looked at Anga. "Anga. You should replace me on the Guard."

"Me?" Anga asked, surprised.

"Indeed," Ono said. "You can see nearly as well as I did. And you can fly even higher!"

"I can't replace you Ono. You're not just the Keenest of Sight. You're the smartest too." Anga said, uncertainty clearly evident in her voice.

"It's okay," Ono reassured her. "You'll be great. Common knowledge, really." Although it pained him to say it, Kion knew Anga had to replace Ono as the Keenest of Sight, But then, suddenly he remembered something.

"Ono's right, Anga, the Lion Guard needs you."

"Okay, I'm honored," Anga replied. Kion jumped up on the ledge to support himself, then raised his left paw to touch Anga's shoulder.

"Anga, now you are the Keenest of Sight. Then, a purple Mark of the Guard appears in her shoulder, she looked at it, obviously feeling prideful.

But then, he saw Ono, sadly looking at his Mark light up, then quickly fade away. "Oh, guess that's it," Kion heard him say sadly. "I'm not on the Guard anymore."

Kion felt bad for the poor egret, it wasn't Ono's fault he had lost his vision. "But Anga's right too. You're the smartest animal I know. And that's why I still need you on the Lion Guard." Kion raised his paw to touch Ono's shoulder.

"Ono, you are the Smartest." Then, a new Mark of the Guard appeared on his shoulder, it was silvery blue.

"Can he do that?" Bunga asked.

"He just did." Fuli replied, answering his question.

"Kion is leader of the Lion Guard," Beshte reminded them.

"That's right. And now the Lion Guard has six members." Kion announced.

"Never one for tradition, is he?" Rafiki laughed.

"That's my boy." Nala said, eyes glowing with pride, though it quickly faded and was replaced by a nervous look.

"Erm...Kion," Nala said awkwardly. "Why don't you assemble the Guard outside so you can leave for the Tree of Life?"

"Um, okay?" Kion replied, feeling awkward. "Lion Guard, let's go." Kion told his team. But he noticed one of them wasn't following. He saw his mother whisper something into Fuli's ear, then they both went behind Pride Rock.

What's that about? Kion wondered, but then shook it off. It's probably not important. Fuli'll join up with us in a minute.
