Chapter Three

Everleigh Woods was always polite.
"A little kindness always takes you a long way." She used to say.
To the best of people and the worst of people. Killing them with kindness was what she liked to do for she knew that her method was effective.

"Excuse me?" I hear a questioning voice behind me. "Why are you sitting on my porch?"

I turn around and gasp when I see the figments of my imagination coming to life right in front of me.

How can this be happening?

She looks just as beautiful as she did in my head. Wearing a blue flowing dress the colour of her eyes and the wind blowing her long wavy hair,  somehow she gives out warmth even with all the cool colours.

Looking at Everleigh Woods just makes you smile.

"It's a long story," I shrug. With Everleigh, honesty is always the best option. She can tell when people are lying. She says it's her superpower.

"Everleigh, is that really you?" I ask, hardly believing it.

"Yes, and who are you?" she wants to know.

"My name is Paris," I say. "Paris Dayton."

"Paris Dayton, why are you sitting on my porch, wearing only a towel?" She raises an eyebrow.

"How is this possible?" I question.

"How is what possible? Miss Dayton, are you okay?" She looks concerned.

"I'm not so sure that I am,"

Maybe I'm dreaming. This has to be a dream.

"Are you lost? Would you like to come in?" she offers.

"You're going to invite a complete stranger into your house?" I ask.

"You're not a bad person," she states. "I can tell."

I'm surprised by her answer even though I should know that she'd say something like that. After all, I created her.

"Oh, and can I just say that I love your hair?"

"Thank you!" I blush, flattered by Everleigh's compliment.

I gasp as we enter the Woods Mansion. White walls and glass doors, wrought iron furniture and light wooden floors. It's just the way I imagined it.

Sunlight enters the house through the tinted glass, bright, but not too bright.

"Do you believe in magic, Everleigh?" I randomly ask, already knowing her answer, as we walk upstairs to her room.

"Of course," she says without thinking. "You're not from here, are you?"

"No, I'm not."

We enter her spacious room and yet again, I gasp.

The walls are a pale turquoise and all the furniture is white. The room has a nautical theme to it. It's the room of my dreams, the kind I've always wanted. Seashells of different sizes, shapes and colours decorate the glass shelves on the wall.

I sit on the white armchair and look at the photo frame on the table next to it. The frame contains a picture of Everleigh and Derek Catallano sitting on the swing from her porch.

Derek.

He's so beautiful. Just like I imagined.

"That's my boyfriend," Everleigh smiles. "His name is Derek."

"I know."

"Are you going to tell me how you got here?" she asks calmly.

"I don't know how I got here," I say.

"From the buoy?" She guesses and my eyes go wide.

"Like I said, Miss Dayton, I'm a believer," she says. "I always knew there was something a little odd about that buoy."

"Please, call me Paris."

"Okay, Paris."

"Am I on Earth?" I ask stupidly.

"Yes, Paris, you're on earth," Everleigh tries not to roll her eyes. "But I reckon that you're in another dimension."

"Dimension?"

"I think that's what they're called. Different dimensions or universes," she shrugs. "I'm not sure."

"You know that you sound crazy, don't you?" I manage to chuckle, feeling a little crazy myself.

"What's life without a little crazy?" she asks.

"Boring?" I reply to her rhetorical question.

"Exactly."

I decide against telling her that she's a character from a book that I've written. Someone from another universe is good enough.

"How do you know that I'm not just from out of town or something?" I question. "Why another universe?"

"Call it a hunch." She grins.

"Has this happened before?" I ask.

"Has what happened before?"

"Have people...who aren't from here, been here?" I awkwardly clarify.

"You mean people from other worlds?" She shrugs.

"Yes."

"Not that I'm awake of," she states. "Swimming to the other side of the buoy seems like the obvious way to get back." She says, getting right to the point.

"I guess," I say. "But I think I'd like to stay for a while."
