<4> The Road Less Traveled

"I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open...", Seonwoo said.

"Take a nap.", Heeseung replied.

"Then who's going to keep watch for creatures? Everyone else is asleep besides Haechan and I."

"I can keep watch.", Haechan said.

"No no, you're already using your powers to keep the bus cool.", Seonwoo responded.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure, I can stay awake."

Seonwoo yawned, staring out of the window.

They heard what sounded like crying.

Turning around, Seonwoo saw Jungwon squirming, seemingly having a nightmare.

"Ah!", Jungwon yelled, crying.

"Hey, hey, Wonie wake up.", Seonwoo said.

Keeho heard all of the yelling, and woke up from his sleep.

He saw Jungwon having a nightmare, and Seonwoo trying to wake him up.

"Hey, what's going on?", he asked.

"Keeho! Just the person we need. You can see dreams right? Can you tell us what's scaring Jungwon?", Haechan asked.

Keeho stretched his legs, getting up and going to where Jungwon and Jay were sitting.

Seonwoo backed up so he could have space to use his power.

Keeho stared at Jungwon and soon he felt himself closing his own eyes, going into Jungwon's dream.

------------------------------

It was the most terrifying thing Keeho had ever seen.

The Light Consumer, the same creature from Seonwoo's vision, was in front of Jungwon. The poor boy was frozen in fear.

The creature loomed over him, it's mouth hanging down, with the bottom jaw almost disconnected from his face.

"Oh my god...", Keeho said.

"HELP ME! HELP ME!", Jungwon screamed.

Keeho couldn't move from his spot, as he had no power in the dreams he saw.

"Help me please! Someone! Someone!"

The creature grabbed him, carrying him away.

Keeho closed his eyes again, and when he opened them, he was back on the bus.

Jungwon was waking up, now crying heavily.

"Hey, it's okay. It's okay.", Keeho said, hugging Jungwon.

Jay started to wake up as well.

"What happened?", he asked.

"I'll explain later. Right now, can you help him calm down a bit?", Keeho asked.

Jay hugged Jungwon, pulling him into his chest, and rocking him back and forth slightly.

Keeho moved up to sit next to Seonwoo, across from Haechan.

"He was dreaming about that creature. The one we're going to see."

"It's messing with us. The creature has to know we are after it.", Haechan replied.

"But how? And how does it have so much power that it is connected to all of us?", Seonwoo asked.

"We'll just have to figure it out once we get there."

The boys sat back in their seats.

"22 hours left boys.", Heeseung told them.

"Oh goodie.", Keeho replied.

Seonwoo kept watching out the window.

Jungwon had calmed down by now, and was holding Jay's shirt in his fist, never thinking of letting go.

The boys rode on in silence for a while.

They were all thinking about what was to be expected in Texas. If this is all happening before they even get there, then what happens when they do?

Seonwoo was struggling to keep his eyes open.

"Hey, I can keep watch. Get some rest.", Keeho said.

"Nooo. I'm not even tired.", Seonwoo said.

"You liar, you just said you were not too long ago.", Haechan replied.

"Well that was a lie...because..."

Seonwoo lifted his hand to his nose, because he felt something off.

When he moved it, there were spots of blood covering his hand.

"Oh fuck-", Keeho said.

"What does that mean? Is he okay back there?", Heeseung asked.

Suddenly, blood started dripping from Seonwoo's nose, getting all over his clothes.

"Uh, uh, oh crap. Anyone have paper towels?", Haechan asked.

"There are some in this glove compartment!", Heeseung said.

Haechan went up and grabbed some, running back to Seonwoo. He handed the boy some, trying to stop the nosebleed.

"Thank you...", Seonwoo said.

"Dude if this creature is doing this to us before we are even in the same state as him...what is he going to do to us when we're right in front of him?", Keeho wondered.

"We just have to stay strong and have faith in ourselves. We're not only doing this for us, but for Yeonjun. He could be dealing with far worse.", Seonwoo said.

"Right."

"Hey, want to hear a joke?", Haechan asked.

"Sure.", Keeho said.

"What do you call a dog with no legs?"

"Uh, I don't know."

"It doesn't matter. It won't come to you."

Seonwoo burst out laughing, while Keeho just looked shocked.

"Hhahahahahaahah!"

"I'm glad you like my jokes Seonwoo."

The boys began to relax again, with Seonwoo deciding to give in and sleep for once.

They had a long drove ahead of them, one the way to something they didn't know.

Only unanswered questions clouded their minds.

Jungwon woke up again, about an hour later.

He moved a bit over from Jay, who was still holding him.

"Oh Jungwon, you're awake. How do you feel?", Haechan asked.

"Not good. It's still so hot."

"Is there any way I can help?"

"No, you're doing your best job...I'm just...just..."

He started leaning a bit, falling out of his seat and onto the floor of the bus.

"Jungwon!", Haechan yelled.

Haechan and Keeho got up and ran to the boy who has just completely lost consciousness.

"Shit, he's burning up.", Keeho said.

"This is bad, really bad. He's not doing good.", Haechan told him.

Haechan tried to use the powers he got from Sunghoon to cool Jungwon down.

Keeho went up to Heeseung at the front.

"Dude this is not looking good. Something is really wrong."

"I heard. That's why we need to get to Texas. The faster we find and defeat the Light Consumer...the faster all of this will come to an end."

Keeho thought for a second.

He went towards the back of the bus.

Ten was sleeping, holding onto Niki for dear life.

"Hey, hey, Chittaphon, wake up."

"Did you just call me by my government name?", Ten said, opening one eye.

"I need a big favor from you. It could save Jungwon's life, and Kai as well."

"Okay, what is it?"

Ten was fully awake, and sat up in his seat.

"You were able to teleport us from the plane crash site to the beach. I know it was a way shorter distance...but could you teleport us to Texas? It doesn't even have to be the exact city. Just...somewhere."

Ten thought for a second.

They were barely out of California, how could he teleport that far?

He looked past Keeho, at Haechan trying to wake up Jungwon.

"Okay. I can...try."

"Oh thank you Ten. Thank you so much."

"Don't thank me yet."

Ten stood up, going to the front of the bus.

"Heeseung, stop the bus."

"Oh, okay."

Heeseung pulled over to the side of the road.

Ten stood up straight, looking around.

He concentrated, closing his eyes.

"Texas. That's where we need to go. Texas.", he said to himself.

Suddenly he felt quick brushes of air pass over him. He kept his eyes closed.

After two minutes, the brushes of air stopped.

Ten felt himself enveloped in warmth.

When he opened his eyes, he saw fields of wheat for what looked like miles around him. A wheat silo, barn house, and a one-story home with a truck out front were there too.

"What part of Texas are we in?", Ten asked.

Heeseung was regaining his thoughts as he checked his phone to see.

Jungwon was waking up, and so was everyone else.

"We are in Georgetown, 42 minutes away from Elgin, where we need to go.", Heeseung told him.

"I did it...I did it!", Ten yelled.

"Good job man!", Kai yelled, realizing where they were.

All of the boys congratulated Ten.

Haechan told Jay what happened to Jungwon. The older now insisted on tying Jungwon to him so he could protect him from anything else.

"Well, let's get back on the road.", Heeseung said.

"Look at these wheat fields. You think those people in that house saw us just appear over here?", Taehyun asked.

"Yeah we best not go over there. They might be...racist.", Soobin said.

"I want to talk to them.", Ten said.

"And if they kill you then what?", Haechan asked.

"Then at least I made new friends."

"I don't think murder is friendship.", Jisung said.

"Tell that to Yeonjun.", Soobin laughed.

"Well he's dead so..."

Soobin turned to face Jisung.

"Did I lie?"
