2x4. Ice Hockey Practice: The Actual Practice

The rest of the two teams get onto the ice and begin warming up by skating around. The coaches occupy themselves by hauling four goalie nets onto the ice from the zamboni door.

Evelyna is now skating with her matching Lightning blue jersey and socks with her fiery hair in pigtail braids under her white helmet; she is looking quite content with herself. Then, Brendan approaches behind her wearing his blank Canadiens jersey with the matching gloves, helmet, and socks. He taps her leg with his stick, gazing at her with his smirk.

"Hey, Evelyna babe."

"Ugh!" Evelyna checks him hard against his chest.

Brenden flies off his skates and slams against the ice, sliding with the momentum over to the other side of the ice. He hits the boards and stays there on his back.

In the stands, the teachers are looking over and see the laying hockey player.

"You know, hockey doesn't seem that hard to play— He just lays there," Luke points out.

Alex Galchenyuk, who is wearing his hockey gear with Belarusian colours, brakes next to Brendan and gazes down at him with a frown. "What are you doing on the ground? You're suppose to be skating."

Brendan perks up at him with raised eyebrows. "Well," he starts, "I got checked by her"—he points to Evelyna, who is on the other side— "HARD, and slid over to here."

"Maybe that's because she hates you."

Brendan lets out a huff as his eyes follow Evelyna making the wide turn behind the nets. "Well, I don't think she hates me because she's coming over to me!"

And sure enough, Evelyna made the turn and is now skating over toward his direction.

She immediately spots him sprawled in her path and makes a disgusted look. "Ew, move!" She uses her stick's blade as a broom to push him out of her way.

Once she passes by him, Alex looks back down at Brendan. "Sure, she definitely doesn't hate you." He then skates off, leaving him laying there.

John then approaches Brendan, wearing his New York Islanders hockey gear with his customized jersey to have his last name and number on it. He knits his eyebrows at the fallen hockey player. "We've waited for three hours to have this ice and you still lay down to rest?" He uses his non-occupied hand to help Brendan up. "Here, get up."

With a groan, Brendan gets onto his blades. "Thanks, buddy." He then slowly skates ahead of John, scanning the ice. He then spots Evelyna quite a ways ahead of him.

Then an idea pops into his head. And so does a smirk.

With a huge burst of turbo power, Brendan makes a sharp turn on the mascot's head and rushes past the other hockey players; his eyes are glued on the red-painted braids. He then makes a swift transition to go backwards and breezes by Evelyna, sneaking in a smirk at her before he glides downward and lands in her path on his side perfectly.

"Hey, Evelyna," he calls out at her, "come lay with me."

Evelyna doesn't hesitate to make a look of odium. "Gross and yucky!" She jabs him with the toe of her blade, sweeping him off her path.

Brendan just follows her with his eyes as she glides by him.

Following behind Evelyna is Nick Ritchie, who is wearing a Washington Capitals hockey attire, and Brandon Montour, who is wearing a Detroit Red Wings hockey attire.

Nick must have heard Brendan's request to Evelyna because he said, "Huh, that's not a bad idea."

Luckily, Brandon grabs onto his arm before he can approach Brendan. "Whoa, no, you just started skating, Ritch!"

Then, the whistle from Coach Sidney blows: TWEEEEEET!

All of the hockey players take the cue and congregate over to Coach Sidney, who is now standing between the zamboni door and away bench. They take a knee in front of him as the other coaches stand behind and next to the hockey players.

After saying his introduction about himself and the purpose of the practice, Coach Sidney begins to explain the first drill to the hockey players: "So our first drill is going to consist of one-on-ones— Doesn't matter your position, there will be two lines: one for defending and one for offensive. You will switch between the lines after each turn. You got that?"

Everyone nods their heads with yes's. Rickard and Hampus look very excited for this drill, like usual.

"Alright, goalies, take a net, twelve players in each station, with one person extra in a station. Let's go, go, go!"

The hockey players clamour up to their skates and depart into the four nets at each corner of the ice. At the top right from the hockey players' point of view, Matt takes his place behind the net. He is wearing a blank red Minnesota Wild jersey with his famous black leg pads and gloves. Then the twelve skaters join him in two lines: Rickard, Hampus, Nick, Brandon, Tyler, and Evelyna in the offensive line and Joseph Cramarossa, Emily Pfalzer, John, Jasmine, Beau, and Brendan on the defensive line. The coaches looking over the station are Coach Sidney and Coach Ryan.

Once everyone is in their stations and places, Coach Sidney blows the whistle for everyone to commence.

The first two are Rickard and Joseph: Even though Rickard has such a playful attitude, he knows how to juke the "defender" with ease and pop the puck over the catching glove of Matt.

"Whooooo!!!" Rickard shouts as he rounds the net. He skates to the defensive line, getting a fist bump from Hampus on the way.

"I'm not a defensemen...!" Joseph murmurs harshly to himself as he storms to the back of the offensive line.

The next two pairs are Hampus and Emily: Hampus attempts to use the movements his buddy did, but with Emily, in her Buffalo Beauts hockey gear, knowing the defending methods from the back of her hand and Hampus not usually being an offensive forward, she easily knocks the puck out from his blade's possession, sending it to the other station next to them.

"Oh, that was amazing, did you see the poke-check? Matt, you should really thank me for that, guys, be happy if I'm on your team, get tips from me, it'd really work...," Emily rambles on as she parks herself in the back of the offensive line. She then receives a menacing look from Joseph, which shuts her up quickly.

Hampus sadly goes over to Rickard.

Rickard pats his back sympathetically. "Aw, you'll do good next time."

"Yeah, next time. That's why I'm a defenseman."

"Yeah, that's why you're a defenseman!"

The next two to go are Nick and John: Nick easily gets by John by hip-checking him to the ground, but then gets denied a goal when Matt blocks it out with his leg and covers it with catcher glove.

"Good job, Matty Hack," Nick tells the one who let him not score softly as he pats his helmet.

Matt takes it anyway. "Uh, thanks..."

John gets up from the ice and wipes the ice bits and wrinkles from his jersey and pants as he skates to the offensive line. "I must sharpen up on my defensive skills...or on my strength to withstand checks from that burly man."

The following pair are Jasmine and Brandon: Jasmine, who is wearing matching hockey equipment with Brandon, immediately gets lost in Brandon's warm, brown eyes. She begins to skate backwards wobbly and ends up stopping in the middle as she is stuck in her daze by one of her favourite guys. Brandon makes an odd look at her, then skates around her like as if she is just a tall cone and shoots the puck wide of the net.

With a groan, Brandon skates over to the defensive line behind Nick. "Do you have an extra Caps jersey I can borrow?"

Nick over his shoulder and peers down at his friend. "We can trade jerseys."

"Uhhhh..." Brandon scans Nick's jersey, then his own jersey, noticing the obvious size difference. "I don't think that would work."

From the offensive line, Joseph calls out in taunting manner: "Hey Monty, I have an extra Pens jersey you can borrow."

Brandon scoffs and turns away from him.

Coach Sidney then skates by Brandon, pointing the blade of his stick at him. "Hey, remember: I'm the coach here."

Brandon gives the coach the death stare as he skates by.

The next two pairs are Tyler and Beau: Beau swings his stick from side to side widely against the ice, trying to knock the puck out of Tyler's possession. Instead, Tyler pops the puck over his stick and skates toward the net when Beau pulls his stick out of the way. Then Tyler makes a breakaway to the net and puts the puck through the five hole.

"Oh yeah!" Tyler celebrates by throwing his hands in the air and fist bumping Jamie, who also finished his turn in the station next to him.

Beau slowly skates to the offensive line, passing by Emily. "I tried to use your tactic. You're better at it."

"No worries, pal." Emily pats his shoulder. "You're a winger for a reason."

The last two to go are Evelyna and Brendan.

"Hey, Evelyna Babe— Can't get passed me!"

"Shut up!" Evelyna shoves him at the ground and launches the puck at Matt while skating at full speed.

But Matt catches it with his catcher glove.

Coach Ryan skates over to Matt and pats his shoulder. "Nice save!"

Evelyna storms over to the boards behind Matt's net and slams her stick against them. "ARUGH!" She then harshly skates over to the defensive line.

Laying flat on his back, Brendan reaches his hand up into the air. "Hey, Evelyna," he croaks, "you pushed me down: help me back up."

Evelyna frowns at him. "No! I'm NOT helping a Habs fan! I need to stay true to my Bolts!"

"Oh, come on, we're on the same team!"

"No, Habs fan!" Evelyna turns away from his direction.

From the crease, Matt reaches his stick out at Brendan and starts tapping his shoulder with the toe of it. "Up...up...up..."

"Fine." Brendan slowly gets up to his skates with a groan and skates over to the offensive line. He then flashes at smirk at Evelyna, which is returned by her sticking out her tongue at him.

Coach Sidney skates over to the two and says, "Alright, you two, grow up. Let's continue on with the drill."

So the skaters and goalies continue on with the same drill until Coach Sidney gathers them again around him. He introduces another drill to them and then they do it themselves. The hockey players continue practicing different drill after different drill after different drill.

While this is all going on, the principals and teachers are looking out from the benches with curious looks.

Niall points to Matt Murray, who is wearing a white Pittsburgh Penguins' jersey over his bulky equipment, at his crease. "What's with the marshmallow guy in the goal net?"

Louis takes a good look at him by squinting his eyes. "I think that's the goaltender, Niall."

"Really?" Niall raises his eyebrows. "All that padding for just a small Oreo?"

Suddenly, a loud BANG! erupts into the air, startling the eight musicians, or in other words, faculty staff. They all jolt from their seats. "AHHHHH!!!"

Once they calm down, they look out at the ice again to see Tyler and Jamie laughing at them. They then skate off with huge smiles.

Harry scoffs. "Students."

Calum turns to the others. "When's the part they take each other's teeth out?"

"I think one of my students already has that...," Michael points out.

"Oh, let's make him do it again!" Luke exclaims with an excited look.

"Guys!" Ashton cries out. "It's just a practice! They're not gonna do anything to each other!"

They then gaze back out at the ice. There, a fight anticipated by many against Brendan and Evelyna has broken out.

Liam turns to the teachers with raised eyebrows. "Sure about that?

Ashton leans back with a frown. "Oh, well, I thought so," he says weakly.

Niall, on the other hand, looks excited. "Sweet, a wrestling match on the ice! Where's the popcorn?"

"I'll get it!" Harry jumps to his feet and half-jogs off the benches, across the room, and through the doors.

Coach Sidney blows the whistle one more time and most of the students start cleaning up the ice. Then after one final small speech by the Coach Henrik this time, they exit with most of the coaches. Except for Brendan and Evelyna; they're still fighting. And Coach Sidney; he's watching them with uncertainty.

"Alright, I'll let you two work it out for yourselves," he finally says. "Just make sure you guys are both in one piece for the game." He then turns around and hops off the ice.

The brawling two topple over each other, not ceasing their punches and bickering:

"Bolts are better than the Habs!"

"No way! Habs are thousand better than the Bolts! Bolts wish they have a quarter of our talent!"

"Ugh! We made it to the playoffs! Where were the Habs in the playoffs?"

They continue plummeting each other with punches as they roll over the ice. The ice is littered with their gloves, helmets, elbow pads.

Back at the benches, Harry returns with two bags of steaming popcorn. He halts in the row where the others are sitting and peers out at the commotion going on at the ice.

"Oh, sweet! I didn't miss anything!" He turns to the others and holds out the bags. "Buttered or non-buttered?"

"Both." Niall snatches the bags out of his hands. "Tanks." He starts munching on them.

Luke gawks at Niall. "Hey! Share!" He reaches out to grab popcorn for himself; Niall hands him the bag with his eyes glued on the fight.

Liam makes an inquiring look at the two skaters fighting. "Wait... Aren't they gonna be on the same team?"

The End for the Ice Hockey Practice!
