A worried Jikyo sat by the hospital bed of his unconscious wife. He was terrified when he found her on the ground. There was a lot of blood around her, and the man himself could't wake up his beloved. Fortunately, Liliana got under the care of doctors as soon as possible, and now all they could do was wait. Park was worried that his wife might not wake up again, but luckily that didn't happen.
The woman woke up after a few days. The blonde slowly turned her head to the side and opened her eyes.
"Lily? " Jikyo looked at her and breathed a sigh of relief when she woke up. "Thank God you're awake." He sighed and stroked her hand. "You scared me." Said in a sad voice. "When I found you there... "
"J-jikyo...?" She whispered uncertainly.
"Mm, yes, I'm with you. " He smiled at her and still held her hand. "I'm here, nae salang."
"Jikyo? " She said again. "Why is it so dark in here?" She asked, which surprised her husband.
"Dark? " He repeated after her. "What do you mean? " He wondered as he looked around the room she was in. It was very bright in there, even though the lights weren't on. It was the middle of the day, and the sun's rays illuminated the room they were in sufficiently.
"Are the lights off? " She asked uncertainly looking around. "Why is it so dark in here? I can't see. " She said in a breaking voice, and Jikyo was even more scared hearing her words. "Jikyo, what's going on?"
"Darling, calm down. " He sat on the edge of her bed and tried to soothe her. "I called the doctor."
He wanted to go but the blonde stopped him.
"No, please don't leave me. " She said in a weak voice. "It's so dark in here... I don't want to be alone." Her voice was breaking.
"All right, calm down. I'm here. " He took her hand again to let her know he was right next to him. "Please call the doctor." He said as he saw a nurse pass by. The woman nodded and did as he asked.
After a while, a doctor came into the room with not too good news.
"Displacement of brain structures during an injury is associated with the possibility of stretching, tearing or crushing the cranial nerves coming from the brainstem. " Doctor said when he did the new tests. "A great threat to the continuity of the optic nerve and the vessels that nourish it are bone fragments formed during the injury, as well as hematomas and swelling of the tissues surrounding the optic nerve. *
"What does it mean? " Park asked.
"Have I lost my sight permanently? " Blonde asked sadly and Jikyo exchanged glances with the doctor. "Tell me the truth. "
There was silence for a moment, but then the doctor continued.
"We found out it early, so don't expect the worst. " James Marshall said. "We're going to do some more tests and start treatment."
"It means Lily can get her eyesight back." Park interjected, glancing at his depressed wife.
"There is a chance that it will work. "
"How big are the chances? " Liliana asked. "Tell the truth. "
James sighed.
"That's all I can say at the moment. " The worker replied. "We'll test you, and then we'll know more. And now... " He approached a friend from work. "I'll write you a medical certificate, you'll stay home for a while."
"James, if you find out anything, please tell the truth. Don't hide anything. " She said. "I want to know everything. "
"Okay..." He replied and left the room.
"Not everything is lost yet, darling." Jikyo said when they were alone. "So please..." He stroked her hand. "Don't lose hope, it'll be okay."
"I've been working here for years and I've seen many such cases, Jikyo..." She interrupted him sadly. "I'd better not get my hopes up for anything... Which might not be true."
"Lily. " Her husband interjected. "Even if they fail here, there are other doctors out there. Other hospitals. " He said. "Whatever comes of it, we're not giving up. We'll find a way. "
"It all costs a lot. " She turned her head to him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "We can not afford it. "
"Lily... "
"What about Sally? " She interrupted him. "Was that true? What happened? " She asked, but Park fell silent for a moment. "Please tell me this isn't real..." She cried.
"I wish I could say that..." He whispered sadly. "There was a funeral yesterday. " He said. "Bradley died in the hospital, he had a attack and..." He stopped and took a deep breath. "Sally... Apparently, at first she fell into some kind of fury, then she started screaming and crying, only after some time the doctors managed to calm her down. She sat by the Bradley's body for an hour, and then suddenly she disappeared and they found her in the bathroom... " He said broken. "They couldn't save her... "
Wilkinson cried as she listened to her husband recount what had happened. She couldn't believe it was really happening. So much bad happened in one day. Sally and Bradley were very close to them, even though they weren't related by blood, they treated them like family. They have always supported each other, helped each other, and now suddenly they are separated.
"Why is this happening again? " Blonde cried, hiding her face in her hands. "After all, everything started to fall into place at last... I thought... " Her voice was breaking, she couldn't control her tears.
Woman hoped very much that the news she heard from her friend's mother would turn out to be just a nightmare from which she managed to wake up. However, that didn't happen. It was a painful reality they had to face again.
Jikyo himself also didn't hide his tears, but after a while he wiped them away, sat on the edge of his wife's bed and hugged her to him. Liliana calmed down after a while and fell asleep. Her husband covered her with a duvet and then quietly left the room, wanting to talk to the doctor again.
"Jikyo. " Marshall looked at his friend. "Here, have a seat. " He pointed to the chair in front of his desk.
"I want you to tell the truth, James. " He said looking into his eyes. "Tell me, what are the chances that Lily will regain her sight? Honestly. " Added.
The doctor sighed heavily, then rested his elbows on his desk.
"I'm not sure. " He replied after a moment. "Lily will stay here for a few days for observation, then I should know more, but..."
"But? "
"The pressure on the optic nerve fibers interferes with its proper functioning..." Said sadly. "This leads to progressive atrophy, ending with irreversible loss of vision.* "
"Okay, but you said there was a chance." Park interjected. "There are any chances, are they? Please tell me something can be done about it. " He said and looked imploringly at his companion. "We just lost our friends... Now this... I'm afraid it'll break her."
"And you? " He asked with concern.
"I'll fight. I'll do whatever it takes. We'll go to whatever doctors we need, whatever surgeries... It doesn't matter how expensive it is, if it helps my wife get better, I'll do anything. " Jikyo said. "Just tell me where to start..." He looked at the doctor again.
While Jikyo was talking to the specialist, Liliana woke up in an empty room. Woman hesitantly looked around, though she still couldn't see anything. Only darkness, nothing else.
"Jikyo? " She asked in a weak voice, but she was answered by silence.
Wilkinson hesitantly got out of bed, leaned against a nearby nightstand, and staggered to her bare feet. It took a while for her to regain her balance, but then she managed it. Woman slowly moved forward, stretching her hands forward to more or less sense where she was. On the way, she hit a chair once with her foot, and then managed to get out into the corridor.
"J-jikyo...?" She whispered uncertainly.
She didn't hear anyone around. She moved unsteadily to the right, leaning her hand against the hospital walls. She was walking ahead, she didn't know exactly where. She saw only darkness, nothing else. The realization terrified her.
At the same moment that Wilkinson left the room, Jikyo returned, and as soon as he saw that his wife has disappeared, he immediately got scared.
"Lily? " He looked in the bathroom but couldn't find her. "Lily?! " He ran back into the corridor.
"What happened? " Dr. Marshall asked and walked over to the man.
"Lily has disappeared. " Park replied quickly and started running ahead in search of his wife.
The doctor called the nurses and started looking for the patient.
Liliana stepped outside, or so she guessed from the sounds around her. She didn't even know where she was going or why. She didn't know where she was or what to do.
She thought about finding her husband, but now she decided that it was a bad idea to leave the room alone in such a state. She could hear the sounds of cars passing by, some closer, some further away. Woman lost her sense of direction. Without realizing it, she stepped out onto the road, and a moment later a car began to approach her, which she couldn't see but could hear. However, she didn't know which direction she should turn to avoid a tragedy.
Jikyo ran out of the hospital and looked around. After a while he saw that his wife was standing in the middle of the road. Man quickly moved towards her, realizing that if he did nothing, she would be hit by a car.
"Lily! " He called.
"J-jikyo...?" She whispered in a broken voice. But she didn't know where her husband's voice was coming from.
Park ran into the street and pulled Wilkinson aside at the last moment, saving her life in the same time. Man hugged the trembling woman to him, one arm wrapped around her waist, and the other soothingly stroked her head.
"It's okay, I'm here. " He said, a bit tired from running. "Why did you leave the room alone? Something might have happened to you. " He said.
"I'm sorry... " She said snuggling into her husband. "I wanted to find you... I thought this darkness would disappear for a while, but it didn't." She cried. "Nothing... All that's left is emptiness..."
