Chapter 8
-Peter's P.O.V-
"Come on then Pete, you ready to go?" Dad asks from outside my door.
Today is the day of the press conference and to say I was worried would be an understatement, I had told Ned about it and he had, once again, freaked out and said he'll watch it. As apparently it's also going to be live broadcasted on a news channel. Oh joy.
Looking in the mirror I nod a little in satisfaction.
I was wearing a black fitted suit, I had a black tie that had a small pin at the top with the Stark Industries logo, and cufflinks at the end of my sleeves with the same logo.
It was simple and classic but I liked it.
My hair was left as it is, just brushed back a little and made my hair seem a little fluffy and have more curls.
"Yeah, I'm ready," I call out before heading towards the door and opening to where I see dad stood there.
He smiles when he sees me and ruffles my hair, making me scowl and try to fix it. I know I said I hadn't done anything much to it, but when he does that it'll definitely mess it up even more.
Dad nods his approval and I roll my eyes while walking down to the common room.
Mum is there and when she sees me she pulls me into a tight, brief hug before pulling away and looking at me, "oh you look so handsome and grown up."
"Thanks mum," I mumble, trying to push down the embarrassment.
Dad comes forward and takes mums hand with a smile before looking at his watch, sighing he says, "we better go, it was meant to start five minutes ago, and it's a ten minute drive."
Chuckling a little I follow after them, trying to stem the worry and whisper, "Stark tradition."
-
The first thing I notice is how loud it is, I wince a little and step back trying to get away from the sounds. Mum and dad were already walking onto stage to introduce me and I was left in the back with Uncle Happy.
He places a steadying hand on my shoulder and when I look up at him I see a worried frown on his face.
"You alright kid?" He asks.
Nodding slightly I say, "yeah it's just- it's just loud."
He frowns a little, and looks like he's about to comment but instead stays silent, just keeping a steadying hand on my shoulder.
Deciding to listen in to what mum and dad are saying I ignore how loud it is- or try my best to- and focus on the familiar voices.
"I know there have been many rumours going around that I have a son, and I am here today to speak about it," I hear dad say, he pauses as more shouts and questions are asked, I flinch a little at how loud it is but keep listening.
Everyone falls silent after a few seconds and he continues, "the truth is, Pepper and I do, in fact have a child. He was born fifteen years ago on August 10th, and he is the light of our lives, not only that, he is now also the heir of Stark Industries."
A roar of sound comes from the crowd and I can see the flashing of all the cameras going off, making me shudder a little. It takes again a few seconds for a hush to fall over the crowd, but I can still cleary hear murmurs of questions.
'What's his name?'
'What does he look like?'
'How did they keep this a secret so long?'
"His name is Peter Stark, he'll be coming up here shortly and answering a few questions. I warn you all though, do not go near him outside of these walls or when there is no designated conference. So stay away from him," dad growls the ending, making sure everyone understands.
I can hear people agreeing and sigh a little in relief, although I doubt they'll stick to it.
Uncle Happy moves me forward as dad introduced me and I walk out.
I very nearly falter in my steps as the lights blind me and the shouts become almost too much. I push it down for the moment, ignoring how my clothes begin to itch and I can hear and smell more then I would like.
It reminds me of not long ago when I got my powers and I don't like it.
"You alright kid?" Dad asks quietly.
Forcing a nod and smile I say I am, just wanting it to be over quickly.
The questions begin to fly in and most of them are simple, what's it like being a Stark?- 'normal for me, I grew up this way, although sometimes it was a little crazy with how big my family really is.
Did you grow up with the avengers?- 'I did, they were there when I was born I think, and they're my aunts and Uncles, I love them all and think of them as blood.'
Was it hard keeping who you are a secret?- 'Sometimes, I don't really have many friends though, but my best friend that I've known nearly my whole life knew who I was and he was always at my house.'
What do you think of your dad being Iron man?- 'I remember when I was little, I had always loved iron man, he was my hero. Then dad told me it was him and showed me his suit and it was such a good day. I've always been proud of him because he always helps people and tries to help.'
What do you think of what Stark Industries was before Iron man, and your fathers dealings in deadly weapons? This one caught me off guard slightly- 'I do think it was wrong, and I know dad does as well. That's why he changed it all, he used it for the better and made the iron man suit, then went on to build things that can help and create peace.'
The questions went on like this and my head was buzzing with all the sound, the lights, the smell and the taste in my mouth.
Finally dad cut off the questions and we made our way off stage, by now I could barley walk straight and dad was keeping a firm grip on my shoulder. The shouts from the crowd became louder and the lights got brighter.
We got off stage and I could see Uncle Happy's worried eyes as he looked at me and my dads face swimming in my vision.
As darkness began to swallow my vision I whispered, "s'too loud."
-Third Person P.O.V-
Tony caught Peter as he fell to the ground and cursed before pulling him into his arms. Peter had said it was too loud and Tony could clearly see the pain he was in.
"Pep, call Bruce and tell him to have the med bay ready, Hap, swing the car around," Tony says while rushing towards where the car is.
Both nod and Happy runs off further ahead to get the car while Pepper gets on the phone, worried eyes on her son as he laid in his fathers arms.

"It's called a sensory overload, from what Karen could tell me about his pulse and how he acted, it seems like his sense dialled up even more. Think of it as a human has their senses up to about 4, like you and I, while Peter now has his up to 7 or 8, and from what I can work out, when it gets too loud for too long, or he's stressed, his senses dial up to a ten, making it a lot harder for him to deal with it," Bruce explains as he looks at Pepper and Tony.
They were currently outside the hospital room, FRIDAY was able to make it sound proof so no noise could go in or out, leaving Peter in a soundless room to help his senses.
Both parents nod and Tony speaks up, "what can we do to help it when he has another one?"
Bruce stays silent for a moment, seeming to think about it, "it'll be good to have a room he could go to like the hospital room that blocks all the sounds. Also a pair of clothes made of nylon or something that won't cause him pain. Headphones that can block out the sounds and I'm sure it can be made dark in a room to help."
Tony nods and whispers, "yeah. yeah I can do that."
"Is he okay?" Pepper asks.
Bruce nods and smiles, "he is. It could have been worse, I'm surprised it hadn't happened sooner with all the flashing lights and shouting. But he should be awake soon and he should be okay when he does wake up."
Both parents sigh in relief and slump in their chairs, it's been a long day.
