Going Home (Chapter 18)

Okay guys! This is it! The last chapter (there is an epilogue though), and maybe the longest 1500 words exactly! Thanks so much to everyone who read, voted and commented! I put up a general message that should've notified my followers, but if it didn't (I'm still figuring Wattpad out), I'll get it out there. It's just a list of more Voltron ideas I might try, so would love ideas/comments! Thanks and hope you enjoy! Epilogue will be up shortly!

Shiro and Keith had stolen an escape pod, and shortly met back up with the rebels. According to Matt, there were no casualties, but Keith was scolded for leaving his men behind.

Keith didn't care about that though. He couldn't help but smile, especially when he watched Matt and Shiro tightly embrace.

He had done it. He had found Shiro, and maybe a new Red Paladin. He also gained some formidable and crucial allies, and was one step closer to destroying the Galra Empire.

Keith looked down at his purple skin, twitching his purple ears just to see if he still had them. To his dismay, he did.

"Keith?" Shiro called as he and Matt strolled over amidst the revelry. "Are you okay?"

"Y--Yeah, I'm just peachy," Keith muttered and started to turn away. He noticed their slight discomfort at Keith's appearance.

"Keith," Shiro replied sternly grabbing the teen's shoulder and forcing him to face them. "We both know I've known you long enough to notice when you're upset."

"I--" Keith looked up at the dark eyes he'd known for years. "I didn't just set out to find you Shiro, but a new Red Paladin too," Keith admitted.

"Why? You're the Red Paladin, Red will only let you pilot it--"

"The Black Lion let me pilot it--"

"To protect me," Shiro argued. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Doesn't mean Red will, and what about the others?"

"When we first found out about me being part Galra, everyone suddenly treated me like a freak. Now look at me! Allura will hate me, Pidge will treat me like a lab rat and experiment on me, Lance will make endless cat jokes, and Hunk will keep thinking I'll turn fully purple! And they'll treat me like I'll murder you all in your sleep and I can't deal with that, not again..." Keith rambled, on the verge of tears. "I'm a monster, but I didn't ask to be this way--"

Shiro cut him off and pulled him into a tight hug. He felt Keith bury his face into his chest, his claws digging into the back of Shiro's armor, but he didn't care. Keith needed him, and he wouldn't leave again.

"You are a part of Voltron. The others will have to deal with it--"

"They'll hate me, and I honestly can't blame them. I'm part of what cause the universe so much chaos and pain, and..."

"And?"

"And I'm a part of the ones who hurt you and Allura!" Keith cried.

"If they hate you, they'll have to hate me too," Shiro muttered with a smile.

Keith pulled away to better see his friend. "What do you mean?"

"I'm part Galra too," Shiro held his prosthetic up and laughed.

Keith chuckled and gently pushed away from Shiro. "That's not funny!"

Matt was laughing in the background. "Alright you two, can we please go see my sister?"

Keith's jaw fell open. "Y--You knew?"

"Well, when you nicknamed the Green Paladin 'Pidge', a nickname I called Katie her entire life, it wasn't hard to figure out," Matt snorted. "That and Shiro confirmed my suspicions."

Shiro smiled guiltily. "Let's head back to the Castle. I've been gone too long!"

--

"Everybody understands the plan, right?" Lance asked in the command area of the Castle.

"Yes, Lance," Pidge sighed irritably. This was the third time they went over it and Pidge still was doubtful it would work. It was taking forever to locate Matt. Finding two Paladins of Voltron would be even harder.

"Because Green Lion has a cloaking device, I fly you and I in, while Hunk and Allura distract the Galra ship. Once inside, I hack into the Galra network and find Keith and Shiro's locations, and we get out of there."

They all nodded, ready to head to their positions, before two simultaneous roars shook the vessel.

"That's the Red and Black Lions!" Allura exclaimed. How she knew the difference between all the Lions' roars, Lance had no clue.

The alarms started blaring, the blue control panels flashing red as a holographic image of a ship was automatically projected into view. It wasn't a Galra ship, but no one recognized it either.

"Should we attack--?" Pidge questioned.

"Or run--?" Hunk offered as he cowered fearfully.

"No. I told you, Alteans believe in diplomacy first," Allura argued firmly. "Let's greet them."

"Forgive me, Princess, but diplomacy has gotten us into some very difficult situations," Coran countered. "Perhaps Hunk is right--"

"No, let them board," Lance stated certainly. "We're Voltron, if we run, we'll look weak if they are enemies. But, something's different about that ship. I have a good feeling about this."

The two other Paladins and two Alteans looked amongst each other nervously, but came to a silent agreement. Coran opened the bay doors before they went to greet the new guests.

Of course, the Paladins led, bayards in hand should Lance be wrong. They crept towards the ship, anxiously waiting as the ship released steam and the ramp lowered. A tall figure greeted them first.

As soon as they locked their brown eyes on one another, Pidge's bayard clattered to the metal floor. They didn't even bother to wipe away the tears that ran down their cheeks under the large round glasses.

"M--Matt...?" Pidge questioned with disbelief. Was it possible that their brother was really there, right before their eyes? Or was this just a cruel Galran trick?

The rebel smiled, tears threatening his own eyes as well. "Katie," Matt whispered, his voice choking on tears.

Pidge practically leapt at their brother before he was even off the ramp. Matt easily caught them and returned the tight embrace.

"I... I can't believe it..."

"I know," Matt whispered back. "It's been too long--"

"I--I never stopped searching--"

"I know."

"How are you here?" Pidge asked as they finally stepped away to look at her long lost brother. He didn't have his glasses anymore, and was a few inches taller than when he had left Earth. He had gray armor over an orange long sleeve shirt, with black fingerless gloves like Keith.

Matt smiled down at his sister. "You'll have to thank the other two for that."

"Other two...?" Pidge asked as they curiously peered around Matt slightly. The second one shuffled down the ramp next, jerking off his helmet and giving everyone a warm smile, one that Team Voltron hadn't seen in a long time.

"Shiro!" Everyone screamed. Matt hurriedly stepped to the side as everyone rushed towards the long lost Paladin. Shiro couldn't help but laugh at Pidge's rambling, Hunk's waterworks, and Coran and Allura's hasty greetings and explanations.

One Paladin wasn't celebrating though, not yet. Lance stared at the ship expectantly. Matt had said '"the other two"... so please, let him be the third one on the ship...

Shiro noticed the Blue Paladin's worried glance, and ushered the others off the ramp as he turned to the last figure hidden inside. Shiro held his hand out.

"It's okay," he smiled. "This is your family too."

Lance heard the nervous sigh from the darkness, as a shaky hand took Shiro's. There was something wrong though. The hand... it was purple, and clawed. Lance activated his bayard, but it fell from his hands when the rest of the Paladin stepped into sight.

It was undoubtedly Keith, despite the furry ears, purple-splotched skin, and yellow eye. What really looked different to Lance was the sad and fearful look on Keith's face, his gaze locked on the ground at his feet.

The others were all silent, staring in shock. They didn't hurry to embrace the one who had brought Matt and Shiro home...

Except one.

Lance sprinted forward, wrapping his arms around Keith's neck tightly. Keith froze, before slowly returning the unexpected embrace.

"L--Lance...?"

"Do you know how worried I was?" Lance muttered angrily, still holding Keith close. "Why would you do that to me?"

Keith hadn't realized he had worried any of them, least of all Lance. With all the arguing they did, Keith assumed Lance wouldn't even miss him. He was way wrong. Pidge whispered something excitedly to Matt, who then looked at Lance and Keith skeptically, then shrugged with acceptance.

"You're not afraid of me?" Keith asked as he pulled away. Lance held the hybrid at arms' length.

"I told you: We are Voltron. You're a part of this team, a part of this family, no matter what you look like," Lance asked. "But there is something I want you to do to make up for worrying me so much."

"What?"

Lance smirked, and curled a hand like a paw. "Say 'nyah'."

"Lance," everyone scolded with an irritated sigh. Keith couldn't help but crack a small smile. He was home, he was back with Voltron.

And he was going to throttle Lance McClain.
