Green Eyes O' Promise/Where Chrysanthemums Bloom
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through,
But with her by my side.
I would gae forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
building a family, as her green eyes fortold
We met in bonnie Scotland, by Loch Melfort's Bay,
The highland beauty struck through tae our hearts,
We lay in the low grass,
and many hours did pass,
building a dream in small pieces and parts,
far from the long reach of the winter and the cold
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through,
But with her by my side.
I would gae forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
building a family, as her green eyes fortold
We journeyed to Spancil Hill, and danced in the fair,
She shone fairest, no other could compare,
as we fast whirled about,
dancing wi' a gay shout,
a fiery cyclone o' red and brown hair,
we danced in moonlight til with the morning came dawn.
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through,
But with her by my side.
I would gae forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
building a family, as her green eyes fortold
We courted for months, we married in Spring,
the chrysanthemums in bloom in our highland field,
I built her a bower,
as tall as a tower,
of flowers and briars that consumed the brae shield,
and told I loved her in winter and spring.
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through,
But with her by my side.
I would gae forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
building a family, as her green eyes fortold
Yet early came the winter, when she took to ill,
No doctor could tell me what ailment would kill,
She too soon breathed her last,
and I wept overcast,
Her green eyes o' promise emptied their fill,
the promises we'd spoken buried on the hill
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through
But with her by my side.
I had gone forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
broken were the promises, her green eyes had told
Now I live in a small house I built wi' my hands,
The dead bower is withered, o'er her grave it stands,
I weep neath the briar,
For Damned Scotland's own ire,
took the fire o' my lover from my lands,
and buried her red locks, on the loch's bonnie strands.
Our future reflected in green eyes o' promise,
told of the ventures we'd yet tae gae through
But with her by my side.
I had gone forth wi' pride,
building a life where chrysanthemums grew,
broken were the promises, her green eyes had told
When I journey to Spancil in the end o' June,
I think of the hours we danced 'neath the moon,
Of my love in my arms,
laughing at her sweet charms,
and I weep at the loss o' one so soon,
who told me she loved me where chrysanthemums bloom
