Death do us apart
"Maa.. Wake up.. Maa... Let you get to bed first.. Maa... How can you sleep on the floor like this.." Prithvi was unable to think that something could actually happen to his mother.
"Putra... Prativindhya.. Control yourself dear... Your Maa is no more. Adrika left us." Droupadi said holding Prithvi's hand. He immediately jerked it off and held Adrika's both bloody palms in his iron grip.
"No.. No.. No.. No...Maa... Maa.. Maa wake up.. Maa.. You promised Maa. You promised nothing will happen to any of us. You promised Maa we will go back to the Island. You Promised me Maa... Maa wake up.. Maasi do something... Maasi please... Maasi! do something, Maa isn't waking up Maasi please... Please wake her up Maasi... Subhadra Maasi please wake my Maa up.. Maasi please.. Subhadra... Subhadra maasi... Massi why aren't you doing anything.. Subhadra Massi please wake her up.."
Above everyone's loud screams of crying.. It was Prithvi's which was clear. It was clear that he had lost faith in everything to save his mother but his Subhadra Maasi. It was first when Prativindhya asked for subhadra by Maasi. Just as Aadi and Vriti. He was now one of them. He lost all patience to pretend he didn't want to leave his identity. Now Adrika herself gave her permission. Finally he was one of Adhrith and Vritika. He was one of Adrika's. Finally he left his identity as Droupadeya and became Adrikeya.
Subhadra was sitting numb. Her hand stopped at her sister's blood stained hair. She knew her jiji was no more. She came out of her trance once she heard Prativindhya called her Maasi instead of chhoti Maa. She knew the only person Prativindhya would hear from was her.
"Prativindhya... Shant ho jao..." She said in a heavy voice unusual of her. Prativindhya broke down on her lap right beside Adrika.
"Devar ji... We should take jiji inside. It's almost sunrise." She said to an equally stunned Nakul. He looked up to his Bhavi's face tear strained and rigid.
They took her inside cleaned and lay on the bed as if she was just asleep. A beautiful smile on her face as if she was taunting the death. Everyone was around the room sitting in different positions. Uttara was sitting nearby Adrika's head still stroking her hair. Prithvi was sitting holding her right hand while Aadi was sitting holding her left with Abhimanyu near her feet with all his other brothers and Sahadev. Subhadra was sitting on a sitter holding a crying Vritika in her arms. With Droupadi holding the girl from the other side. Nakul was sitting near Subhadra's feet holding her left hand. Vasudev Krishn and Arjun were standing near the door helping the healers and warriors going in and out meeting her. The wolf pack just returned with Aeser from run. The alpha and beta of the pack came running in.
"My queen.." Aeser gasped before sitting down at her feet. Noah could not understand what he should do he walked in small steps towards Aadi and held him from behind. Aadi didn't budge but he closed his eyes and let the tears flow.
"Alpha ... You should know.. Shain was hurt during the attack. She is being treated as we speak." Legolas said.
"I'll be back...." Aeser said to no one in perticular and left.
"Bhratasree... What should we do next? My Jiji will not be cremated on the battle ground.. All her life she had been a servant in her in-laws house. But she will get the death of a queen. So.. where should we take her?" Subhadra looking blankly at Adrika's body.
"It should be decided by the Prince consort.. If only he permits, we want to take her to the Island. Our people have the right to mourn and give their last respect to our queen." Helisha said. She was sitting in a corner crying her eyes out.
"But she is the daughter in law of Indraprastha lady helisha. Don't the people of the city need closer too." Droupadi said. Subhadra looked up to her before turning her head to Adrika's body once again.
"She is. That's why I want the Prince consort to decide." Helisha argued.
"He isn't in any condition to decide right now..." Bhim said "Nakul.. say something brother." Nakul just sat there numb.
"Then her children must make this decision." Legolas said.
"I'm losing control of reality in my mind. And our sister is in a worse state than Baba. Jyesth..." Aadi called Prithvi Jyesth for the first time. He looked up, started. "You are Mumma's eldest son. You have to take up the role of the acting ruler of the Island now."
"What... This is not the time and place, Aadi..." Droupadi said in a pleading voice.
"Actually it is BadiMaa.. The Island not to be stay without a ruler for long.. or the consequences will be catastrophic. Baba is not in the state of taking the responsibility also he gave a promise to Mumma that he will not lead a kingdom ever. I'm not ready. And... (Aadi stopped looking at Vritika crying on Subhadra's sholder.) Kisi ko to karna hoga. And as the eldest son of Queen Adrika, you have to do it." Aadi said the last part looking at Prativindhya.
(Someone have to do it)
"Adhrith and Vritika you have to give up your right on Island in order to pass it on to Prativindhya. I can make the rune to make him the heir to the throne right now." Legolas said. Most people did not understand what they were talking about.
"Jyesth?" Aadi said to Prativindhya who just nodded. Aadi then took a glowing dagger out of his dress... "This is the temporary magic that made me take decision on behalf of Mumma if necessary. It's two part.. this dagger for me and a necklace for her. I'm handing out to you..." Prithvi took the dagger and his heart started glowing...
"Vri... Wave your rights.." Aadi commanded his sister. Vriti hold the chained necklace she was wearing and pulled. It broke of easily. She passed it to Prithvi before falling into Subhadra's arms again.
"I feel connected to Island. The bond seen deeper now." Prithvi said in a soft voice.
"Give me something that's close to you Prativindhya. It have to be powerful. Did Adrika ever gave you anything?" Legolas asked.
"A lot of things.. but.. take this. This emerald on dragon heartstring was my Maa's safety net for me. I could never take it off." Prithvi said while taking off the circlet Adrika tied on his forehead. He touched to to his mouth before giving it to Legolas. He took it and started carving something on it with his dagger. It was a beautiful looking rune. The same then appeared on Prithvi's forearm.
"You will feel it... Sometimes it hurts.. sometimes weird noises and sights. It's just the rune adjusting to your body. You are the temporary ruler of the kingdom of Island." Legolas said tying the circlet around his forehead. Prithvi nodded a thank you to him.
"This is all going too fast." Droupadi said.
"Without this we can't proceed with anything regarding Adrika. It's good that it happened now Sakhi." Vasudev Krishn said for the first time in hours.
"Prithvi... Command us.. what should we do next?" Noah said.
"We will take her to Island. Where she was loved and Respected." Prithvi said holding Adrika's hand to his mouth.
"She was respected everywhere.. then why not Indraprastha. The city she help built." Yudhishthir asked softly to his son.
"Adhikar se samman milta hai Pitasree. Jaha unhe unka adhikar hi kavi nai mila waha samman kesa?" Prithvi said in a voice to just end any argument after that.
(Respect comes with rights. The place where her rights were taken away, how can there be any respect.)
No one dared to say anything to that. Prithvi simply got up and walked to look at Adrika's face up close. Uttara was sobbing with Adrika's head in her lap. He put a hand on Uttara's sholder as if to console her. Uttara immediately hold his hand. Prithvi touched his mother's face once. He then went to Subhadra and sat infront of her. Subhadra somehow understood her and nodded before wiping his tears on her anchal. He stood up to face everyone.
"Anyways Pitasree, she was a mere healer in Indraprastha but a Queen in Island. Technically Island has more rights on her than Indraprastha. We are taking her to Island." There was a certainty in his voice that made everyone obey.
"Who's handling everything in Island these days?" He asked to no one in perticular. But Hellisha walked forward to stand next to him. She was always the closest person to who ever is on the throne of island. Now it was Prithvi so her loyalty immediately passed to the young man.
"Queen sister lady Uloopi. She.. she is expecting my Queen's arrival.. how will I tell her that her body is...." Helisha choked. Prativindhya held her hand to console her silently. She nodded. "Thank you my prince.. you are very kind."
"Mata Uloopi... I have to send her a message. Noah.. call Siara... And the dragons. They are the fastest way to transfer Maa to Island. Call all the thesrals, unicorns and giant birds that are available. We need at least all the islanders to return to give Maa the last send off. Lord Legolas Elf horses are faster than wind. But can they carry two riders at once? The wolf pack may need them. Or the healers, as most of them are women and younger men they are lighter." Prativindhya asked.
"Yes.. my force will transfer as many healers as we can. Rest assured. I'll be taking your leave now, Lord Prativindhya." Legolas gave a formal bow to him. He then went to Adrika and kissed her fore head, "Namárië mime seler" he said softly before leaving.
(Farewell my sister)
"Shree.. do you know how to call Vriti's bird?" Prativindhya asked.
"I can call Aniela too. She is faster." Srutakarma said.
"Call her and send message to Mata Uloopi. Use gentle words. I don't want her to take ill from the news. I'll be right back." Prativindhya said.
"Where are you going in a time like this?" Bhim asked.
"Kakashree Duryodhana... He doesn't know. He must hear this from me. Before you say he maybe ordered this attack.. I don't think so. Maa talked about him so fondly, they must have settle their differences. She tied up all her loose ends before going." Prativindhya said before leaving.
The camp of Kauravas was dark and silent with just occasional cry of pain from Duryodhana's tent. Prativindhya mount off his horse and started towards the camp. Kripacharya was standing infront of the camp. He saw the look on the young man's face.
"No... No.. tell me you are not here to deliver the news I think you are boy." He said holding Prithvi's both shoulders. Prithvi folded his hands.
"She is no more."
"The hope has died."
"But her son is alive. Come with me."
"History will remember this moment as the beginning of a new era. The birth of the next king of humanity. Tumhara Kalyan ho Adrikeya Prativindhya."
(May you be blessed, Prativindhya, son of Adrika)
Prativindhya took farewell from Kripacharya to move towards the camp. Duryodhan was either asleep or passed out of pain. He looked at his uncle's face. All he could see his mother's grace. He could feel pain instead of anger, like when he saw him in battlefield. The healers didn't stop him when he sat beside his head and started gently strocking his hair. Duryodhan slightly opened his eyes and looked at the youngman over him. He felt relieved. Because prativindya's eyes were filled with kindness. He felt his sins washed away with this touch of next generation. His kins are greater than him. But soon his keen eyes detected his nephew's grimice. He was afraid to ask. Maybe it just his own eyes that now seeing only sorrow. Maybe it because the youngman has seen so much on such a short period of his life.
"Prativindhya!!! Putra... You have come to see me. After all that. It made the last moments of my life as joyful as possible my dearest. Exceptionally kind is supposed to be my Jyesth's son. No doubt." He said in a tone filled with joy. Somehow Prativindhya was preparing himself to give the worst news to his uncle but he beat him to it. "What happened Putra?"
"It's Maa, Kakashree. " Prativindhya smiled a week grin and added "Maybe it's a lot less waiting you have to do to meet her on the other side."
"No.. no ." Duryodhan started to get up but his own pain and Prativindhya's strong arms stopped him. "Adrika .. what happened to my sister, son..."
"She fell. By Aswathhama. Her last words for you was to make a memoribilia of you in Island so that her next generations can know you too." Prativindhya intended to say this to reduce the effect of the bad news but unknown to him it was adding on the pile.
"No no..." Duryodhan cried moving his head side to side and writhe in pain. "Aswathhama..m why.... Why did you rob me of my last hope... Why couldn't you leave me with the reassurance of leaving my old parents in tha hands of someone Who forgave me... Why didn't you just kill me before doing this hynus act."
"She was at peace kakashree. She left smiling. and she was thinking about you. Please don't punish yourself." Prativindhya said trying to hold his face.
"How can I not my son... How can I not... Look at my Karma.. I can't even go to place my head on her feet." He cried. "My sin is so grave that it isn't allowing me her last sight. But you can. .. yah.. you can... You showed me so much mercy my son.. please do this last one. Take me to her. Drag my body if you like but let me see her. Ek antim upkar kar do apne marte hue kaka pe Prativindhya... Let me see her... Let me... Se ..."
(Do this last favour on your dying uncle Prativindhya!)
Maybe the pain was too much or he just lost the will because Duryodhan's soul left in that moment. In the lap of Prativindhya while the young prince was trying to make him drink some water. The rituals were doing itself it seemed. Who would have thought Duryodhan will get this death in the lap of Yudhishthir's son while him doing the last duties of a son. But he did. Prativindhya left after arranging for his last rights. As per Adrika's curse the nature cannot except his body so they left him deep in the forest to the mercy of forest goddesses. When he returned he kept himself busy with preparation for leave to the Island. He didn't step foot in the camp where Adrika was. He was the eldest son and he had work to do.
In the face of this grief Arjun turned to Vasudev, he knew his friend maynot be the same after this. He had seen his friend loose his composer when it comes to this sister of his.
"Madhav.. Adrika... I can't believe..." Arjun said.
"Meri behna... Uska karya purn hua Parth.. She maybe needed somewhere else.. some other adventure. Some other time.." was Vasudev Krishn's only reply.
(My sister.. her work has been completed Parth.)
