His feet left light tracks in the sand. The gentle rise of the morning tide brushed the shoreline with ease. He came here for a reason. He had to see his little friend before he left. She held meaning in his heart.

He arrived at her home. A small hole in the packed sand. Tide would rise soon, the goodbye had to be short. He crouched at her door.

"I'm here," he whispered.

A small, purple crab exited the sandy hole. The boy reached down to lift the tiny creature.

"I'm glad you're still here. I will miss you," he stated.

"I will miss you too," the crab thought. If only the boy could hear what she was thinking.

"This summer has been fun." His gaze drifting to the horizon.

A silence joined the two friends.

" I guess I should let you go." He kissed the top of her shell and placed her on the sand.

The boy turned to walk back to his car where his friends were waiting for him. He glanced back at the creature. "Goodbye, little crab."

"Goodbye Namjoon."
