The Library of the Dead
I've made my decision.
"I choose to stay here!" I shout.
They all smile at me. Jijoh takes the book from me, then tosses it up into the light. It disappears.
"You made the right decision." Hikari tells me.
I smile at her.
"Now," Jijoh says. "You get to see the rest of the Library of the Dead! Please, follow me." Jijoh says, grabbing my hand.
I follow her to one of the trees growing on the shelves. She knocks on it. A door appears in the tree, and she pulls me inside. In the door is a small room with shelves. I look at some of the titles.
Hot Dogs
Hamburgers
Salad
The list goes on. Every title is food.
"Umm... Jijoh? What is this place?"
Jijoh laughs. "This is the dining hall, of course! You can take books from here and go into them to get different types of meals! It's the best!"
"Oh uh... that's... cool?" I'm not totally sure what I'm supposed to say to that.
"Yeah, it is! Now, this way!" Jijoh says, grabbing my arm again.
She pulls me into a different tree. This one only has two books on it's shelves.
Bad Dreams
Good Dreams
"This is where you sleep! You can chose to have bad dreams or good dreams!" Jijoh says.
"Who would want to have bad dreams?" I ask.
"Well, Aguri, it gets boring here sometimes, so it's fun to change it up a bit sometimes. But you should start out with the good dreams."
"I was planning on it."
Jijoh pulls me back into the main room. "So, now you can enter stories as much as you want. Or you can sit in a beanbag and relax, or just read a book normally. Though we do have jobs that we rotate every day. You can have today off, but every other day, why don't you accompany me on my jobs?"
"Uh... sure," I say.
For the rest of the day, I just read books normally. Literally every book in the whole universe is in here, even though not all of them are in English. At night, the magical light dimmed a little, and that's how we knew it was nighttime. I picked up the Good Dreams book and headed into it. Then I had this wonderful dream, even though I can't tell you what it's about, since it's technically a book.
The light pulled me back into the Library of the Dead in the morning. It was back to it's usual brightness. I started my day with a Pancakes story, and Jijoh was right. The food was delicious! Then, I headed into a few mangas. When I came out of my second one, Jijoh tapped my shoulder.
"We have to do our job now. Today we have to reorganize the books."
We worked on that until lunch, then headed into a Barbecue. After an amazing meal, we resumed our job. We finished before dinner, so I headed into another manga. Hikari, Jijoh, Sir and I all headed into Cheeseburgers together for dinner. After that, I headed back into Good Dreams. It gave me a different dream this time.
And so, for the rest of eternity, I lived in the Library of the Dead. It was the best, most peaceful death in the universe. Every day, Jijoh and I completed our job, then headed into some stories. After a while, I decided that I would write a book. We were allowed to, after all. So I decided to write a book about my death, and what happened when I first arrived in the Library of the Dead. I couldn't travel into it, since I wrote it, but Jijoh helped me publish it in the living world. We have the power to do that. We can send books we write to the living world, to your world, as long as it's signed Anonymous. I was so happy when I finished my book. And even if I couldn't travel into it, I could still read it normally.
Jijoh showed me another tree. Inside it had shelves full of stories written by Jijoh, Hikari, Sir, and now me, Aguri.
And now, I conclude this story. This story of my death, and my time in the Library of the Dead.
Signed, Anonymous
No. I will not end it like that. You already know who I am. So I will sign it the proper way, regardless of the consequences. After all, the only consequence is that I get cleaning duty for a year.
So, hear it is.
Signed, Aguri
