Letter 7

Dear Meera,

Don't. I don't know exactly what you are feeling, but if you are beating up yourself for not giving me the letter, then don't. It's not your fault. I had forgotten entirely that the ice-cream joint was Jia and her gang's usual hangout. Yes, this creepy stalker was there!

I saw you coming in, nervously, asking the waiter for table no. 3, a bag slung on your shoulder. I saw you order a chocolate sundae and I couldn't help but marvel at our similar tastes. Just when you had taken out your letter, I saw Jia and her friends jeering at you. I don't know what they said, but when I just when I decided to come and confront them while consoling you, when you ran out of the shop, tears glistening in your eyes, the letter still clutched in your hands, your knuckles as white as snow.

Now I truly understand why you choose to stick with your own people. I tried to change you, but I need to be the change that I wish to see in the world. I have to set an example, shed my cocoon within which I'm still hiding, and overcome my cowardice. This is me Meera, the truest depth of me, a coward. I can't expect you to be Miss. Popular all of a sudden. It's high school for hell's sake! It's time we start learning. But to learn, we must take our mistakes in stride and use them to mould our future.

I really did feel the need to console you, and I'll do so when we actually meet. Until then, I can only offer you these words of solace. You know what? Do me a favor and buy yourself a Kit-Kat. I'm sure it will help a little in brightening your day.

BTW, our results for the exams are coming soon, after which we will have the Farewell at school, before the Hiking trip. God, I can't wait to see you in a Sari!

Entirely yours,

Shaitan

P.S: If it makes you feel any better, imagine Jia without a nose, because her resemblance with  Voldemort is pretty uncanny!

P.P.S: There is that beautiful smile! Just flash it once again in the general direction, to let me know you're at peace.

Meera looked up from the letter, her happy smile on her face, and tears of happiness and sadness mixed, threatening to pour out of her eyes. She was relieved that he finally understood about her problem with the people in her school. Although she was dejected at not giving him the letter, she was glad that the creepy idiot saw the whole exchange, and even more glad that he hadn't heard Jia's words. Sometimes words can be more scalding than the hottest of waters.......
