Joe Main, Aged Twenty-Nine

Case Summary read by Detective: 5624:

“Joe Main was a man so neutral and calm in all that had been happening that he was the last person you’d think to be affected by the supernatural abilities. However, his abilities came and were the most varied of them all. It took quite a while for people to realise it was him that was causing them as they were so subtle. However, once his ability had been worked out, it was hard to see how they had not realised it sooner. People were afraid of having a conversation with Joe Main and refused to look him in the eye after the truth of his powers came out”.

Events told by Doctor Mark Barber:

Joe Main was one of the duty managers at the leisure centre. He was tall, muscular and had a face that could frighten any into submission. It was a good trait for him to have, he needed to be able to control the delicate and angry situations as well as be able to relate to the other staff members he worked with.

Joe’s talents emerged in seven different scenarios. Joe’s talent was the most diverse of the lot. It was incredibly straight forward to understand once we had worked it out. The accounts of Joe Main are split into seven different sections. Joe had a lot of power at the leisure centre and as such his talents manifested in similar ways.

The episodes are presented as follows:

No. 1

A little known fact about the gym, there will always be that one person who wants to show off to their friend’s. Joe had warned this particular individual many times about his foolish attitude in the gym and even the gym instructors had warned him about not taking the proper safety measures in the gym. However, he refused to take notice of what they were telling him. Instead he continued to use the gym without the proper safety and thought himself invincible.

That was until, the duty manager Joe decided to intervene once and for all. He took the young customer aside and told him that this was his last warning and that if he continued to use the gym equipment irresponsibly, he would be banned. Needless to say the customer in question was not happy and stormed into the gym without further question.

It was perhaps unlucky that at that moment a group of young men walked into the gym. The young customer in the gym seemed to know this group of men and instead of heeding the warning from Joe, he began to show off. Unfortunately at this point in time, the customer was holding weights and decided to prove he was invincible by attempting an exercise that is supposed to be done with much lighter weights.

Needless to say it didn’t go well for him and he ended up not only injuring himself to the point that an ambulance had to be called to cart him off but he also got banned from the leisure centre.

No. 2

The next incident happened after two staff members were gossiping about the hotness of two young customers in the gym. They couldn’t decide which of the two young brothers was hotter. Their gossiping stopped them from getting work done, which was something that didn’t sit well with Joe.

He had a serious chat with them but it had the opposite effect. Instead of stopping their gossiping, their infatuation became an unstoppable force. One followed the first brother throughout the entire leisure centre, proclaiming how much she adored him and that they were made for each other. Meanwhile the other member of staff followed the other brother into the gym. She then proceeded to corner him and tried to seduce him by using her ‘womanly charms’ and undressing herself.

Their behaviour caused great outrage with customers and staff. Indeed their exploits continued for many weeks, getting increasingly more provocative and plain scary as time wore on. When they were both discovered – naked – and trying to get into the showers with said customers, they were removed from the premises.

No. 3

Many people came to use the café. Some were big while others were small, yet it was one customer in particular that caused grief for Joe Main. This customer was one that didn’t realise his appetite was bigger than his stomach. He had been repeatedly told by his doctor not to eat so much but he hadn’t listened to the advice given.

Indeed Joe had been forced to call the ambulance service twice to help the man. Everyone was disgusted with the amount of food the man guzzled into his body.

Joe had warned him many times that his consumption of food and his unpleasant attitude towards staff would get him banned from the café. They’d tried everything they could think of to get him to stop his continual food consumption but even if the café stopped serving him, he could still get food from the vending machines.

It was a shame that the customer didn’t listen to the advice of others and that he thought food to be more important than his own life. It was a cloudy Wednesday afternoon when it happened. He’d been shovelling food into his mouth all morning with no signs of stopping. Suddenly without warning the man popped – like a balloon – sending bits of him all over the floor. It was disgusting and staff had a hard time clearing it up, no one however, felt bad for the life that had been ended.

No. 4

Joe was getting increasingly annoyed with a member of staff called Felicity. She was continually late for work without warning or reason. She was earning a title of being incredibly unreliable to the point that he had to sit down and have words with her.

In a normal world this would mean the end of the matter but this world clearly wasn’t normal and had the opposite effect. She was even later than ever to work, was found hiding in cupboards, slept everywhere and anywhere she could find and never did any work.

It was clear to see why she was fired. However the problem didn’t stop once she left the centre and many would point out that her problems started after that conversation that she had with Joe,

During the daily children swimming lessons, parents often come to watch their children swim. However there was one parent that got on the nerves of Joe. He always took his laptop onto the swimming balcony – which wasn’t technically allowed – he talked obscenely loud on his phone and even came in to use the free Wi-Fi when he had no business coming into the centre.

It appeared that this man had an obsession with work and a like for arguing with Joe on trivial matters. However, the more he talked to Joe the worse his obsession became and the greedier he became.

He no longer showed any interest in his daughter’s swimming lessons. However his change in behaviour wasn’t limited to the leisure centre, it had spread to his work and his home life as well. He was overtaken with greed and the ability the make more money and have more money.

He ended up quarantined as his greed was making him rabid with desire to get more money. He was known to be cursing Joe’s name as he paced his cell.

No. 6

The sixth incident happened after a confrontation Joe had with the operations manager at the leisure centre. The conversation was about the lack of lifeguards at the leisure centre. This sent the operations manager into a tailspin of ganger, eyes flashing red, charging like an Italian bull.

Lifeguards suddenly found themselves pulled into work, hours before they were due to start and were zapped by lightning bolts if they started slacking off. Of course this put off the bad behaviour of many lifeguards but there were still some that behaved badly regardless of how many times they were zapped.

No. 7

The last person to be effected by Joe’s talents was Jeremy, who was another member of staff. Jeremy disliked Joe, though no one actually understood why. He was always unpleasant towards Joe and having had enough of Jeremy’s behaviour, Joe confronted him. After their confrontation, every time Jeremy came close to Joe his whole body would turn green. It was mortifying and humiliating for Jeremy but quite amusing for everyone else.
