“The appearance of Ellie’s abilities bough a whole new meaning to the statement ‘supernatural abilities occur within leisure centre customers’, because she wasn’t a customer, she was a member of staff. She was the beginning of what would be the downfall of the staff at the leisure centre being exposed to supernatural abilities”.

Ellie worked part-time at the leisure centre. Mostly she worked in the café but she occasionally did overtime in sales. As with everyone who worked at the leisure centre, it was a job and it paid, yet over the time she had worked there, she had come to greatly dislike the customers that walked through the doors.

Nothing was ever good enough; they always wanted more and complained if they didn’t immediately receive what they wanted. Being a good natured girl, the attitude of the general public began to take its toll on her outlook on life. She was one of the few who saw the arrival of these supernatural gifts as a good thing. She saw it as people fighting against the bigger man. She though the people in the leisure centre that had been exposed to these talents were incredibly lucky.

Her powers manifested on a Saturday morning. The weather was bad, meaning there were a lot of people in the centre and there was a soft play party. The place was rammed and she was alone working in the café. She was used to it being deadly quiet and so this was an annoyance for her. She had a stream of customers with no break, and they were all impatient to be served.

Most of the customers she served were pleasant enough – meaning they smiled and said thank you – but as ever, there was always one that was there to put a spanner in the works.  This particular customer seemed to have a very short fuse, she had a large order and kept changing her mind on what drinks to have. This caused Ellie to waste products and drinks as the woman continued to change her mind.

It was clear that this woman was just one of those people that liked to push other people’s buttons and get a rise out of them. She loudly commented on what a bad worker she was and that she couldn’t even make a single order correctly. Her words were making the other customers restless as they could clearly see the effect the words were having on Ellie.

When Ellie had finally finished the order, she almost slammed it down on the counter in anger. Trying to remain calm, she took payment from the customer but as the customer walked away uttering another snide remark, Ellie’s anger got the better of her and the drinks the customer was carrying exploded in her face. The customer’s screams were almost instant as the hot liquid burnt her face and hands.

A customer – who wishes to remain anonymous – had this to say about the incident: “It was always quite busy on the weekends and really it wasn’t fair that poor Ellie was working alone. Most of us were quite happy to wait our turn. We understood that she was doing her best. The woman who kicked off was known for being unpleasant. She had periods when she would be in the leisure centre for days and then months would go by without her making an appearance. I thought Ellie did very well at holding back and not retaliating against the woman. However, I clearly saw the moment when the poor girl snapped, she’d slammed the drinks down and taken payment and then her eyes flickered from their usual colour to an unearthly vibrant green. Next thing I know, those drinks are exploding all over the woman and burning her. I suddenly felt very afraid of the small girl and began to fear that she’d become the next victim of the strange things that were happening in the leisure centre”.

After so many unnatural occurrences having happened at the leisure centre, the Special Forces were alerted as soon as the liquid incident had happened. Of course they hadn’t seen the incident themselves and there were no security cameras in the café so they couldn’t do anything to Ellie other than continue to monitor her.

Ellie was the second person to possess the talent of two different abilities. The first had of course been Susie Brownlee. Ellie had been worried that she was soon to be kicked off from doing sales overtime as it had been getting increasingly harder to get people interested in joining the leisure centre as a member and as a result she wasn’t meeting her targets.

It was through her determination to keep her position in sales, that her second power manifested itself. Suddenly people who had expressed their desire to never become a member were signing up and those who’d had a problem with the monthly price of membership now seemed to have no problem with it. Ellie’s sales log went through the roof with the amount of sales she was making. The general manager was overjoyed by the amount of profit she was making and wasn’t concerned by how she was doing it, just so long as she continued to bring in the sales.

It was dear Miss Susie Brownlee that identified Ellie’s second ability. Susie of course had the ability of telepathy and as such, could read what was going on with Ellie. She gave us this account: “My gift of telepathy was much easier once I had learnt to control it. I general tried to stay out of other’s minds. However, having been told of what had been happening with Ellie, Archie persuaded me that I should use my talents to find out what was going on with her. At first when I tried, I found that her mind was just a jumbled mess of thoughts. However, when I pushed further I found a sort of green mist floating around and changing her thoughts and feelings. It was making her mind bitter, her determination for keeping her job was changing how others thought around her, she was actually manipulating the minds of others to convince them into signing up for membership. Her second ability the one that had caused that customer so much pain, was the one she was more aware of, she was afraid of it but she was also in awe of it. She liked that she had become part of the humans with abilities. However, she wasn’t in control and she wasn’t like me, she wouldn’t gain control of her abilities as quickly as I had.
