I'm sitting on a hard wooden chair in a room with white-washed walls. It's been over fifteen minutes already and I'm being questioned like I committed some federal crime.
Well missing a student body meeting apparently is a federal crime according to the rules of this blasted school.
"Don't you know that attendance is compulsory at every student body meeting?"
"No".
"Do you know who you are talking to?".
I do. I most definitely do. How the fuck can somoone not know joker from a pack of cards!!!
Still.
"No". I heard my stubborn nonchalant voice.
She wheeled backwards and spun a three sixty turn on her six inch heels.
Empire lacked nothing. And when I say nothing, I also mean that we have an A-grade wannabe, just like in any other Hollywood high-school movie.
In Empire, that prestigious position is held by Rozana Raid. Aka Rona. Apparently not knowing her was an even heinous crime than missing a SB meeting.
She would have said more. But one of the twins, the sensible one, pumped in a sensible voice.
"Why weren't you there? You were there in the lunch room yesterday".
Well what can I? That I ignored your blasted president cause I don't want his head growing any bigger??
I for a moment actually relished the soothing notes of his voice. Here in this hot room, where some mad woman was going up all in flames, his cool voice felt welcome.
"I had family obligations", I lied without a blink.
"But you are an orphan".
Ouch!!!
I swear I wasn't the only one who flinched at the scathing comment. Who even slaps something so cold right across your face, like that?
"At least that's what your file says".
The new voice that came from behind me was deep. Rich. Husky even.
Fuck, where did that come from?
I made no motion to turn my head towards our newly added audience. Shezaad came into view from my right side with a black folder in hand, his face impassive, despite his harsh words. Dressed in black jeans and a black shirt with sleeves rolled up, one wouldn't know if he sexy or sinful or both. His white Adidas shoes made no noise against the wooden floor.
"Why lie?"
Melted chocolate......
An inner voice swooned. But thankfully the real me was not such a hopeless push over.
"It's an unavoidable circumstance that required my presence".
"That I already figured. But why did you lie about the family emergency?"
Dang! This guy wasn't easy!
"Why are we even doing this Shezaad? We should put her in her place!"
I paid no attention to what the screeching woman was saying, even though I was glad that her piping had springed me from answering that question.
"Oh. Yes. That reminds me the stunt that you apparently pulled last week. On your.....first......day?"
He purposely let his voice trail. Turning his words into a question so that I'd have to admit what I did. Apologetically so. It was a question meant to make me uncomfortable. Well technically anyone else but me uncomfortable.
Well two could play this game.
I slid down my chair, into a more relaxed relaxed pose and crossed my legs.
"Yeah, what about it?"
I saw the wheels turning in his head. Everything he perceived in me so far, every observation, every conclusion crumbling to be replaced by something he still didn't witness in this college.
I swelled with feminist pride.
He eyes me for a long time choosing his next words. It would have made any other girl squirm in her seat. Even strong headed Winifred. But he will have to find a better expression to alarm me.
"Do you accept complete responsibility for the last week incident".
"I didn't initiate it".
"YOU butted your fucking nose into a business that is not any of your concern!!!! ", it was Sean, the hot head.
I glared at him with my ground teeth. He would have said more, he was going to, but the even look he received from Shezaad quietened him up.
"This can't happen again", Shezaad said in cool an composed voice. His eyes were less....I looked for the right word but failed so.
Less scowling, I finally bargained with my mind.
"Yeah", I agreed. "I won't miss any student body meeting again. I'll try my best not to".
My voice was very pleasant knowing exactly what he meant.
His eyes regained that previous hard look at my words. It was easy enough to read his mind. 'This one, I need to watch out. #TROUBLE'.
I stifflded a giggle.
He stood up. And I stood along with him. Turning away from me, he looked back into my file, although God knows there's nothing beneficial to him in there.
"That and what happened last week. Don't get involved with things that aren't your business anymore", he said without looking at me.
I snorted. Out loud. And that got his attention.
"And you will apologise to Sean. In the cafeteria. In front of everyone".
Was he serious?
I studied his stance.
Yes he was. And like hell I would listen. You can pickup your garbage and drop it in the trash compactor boy, for all I care.
I actually wanted to say that. The five year old in me wanted to stick my tongue out too. But I figured it wasn't scathing enough.
"If you expect me to wait by the sidelines and watch how your colleagues harass people, then it's not happening", I said with dead finality.
I looked at that blasted Sean and back at Shezaad's blue eyes, now flashing at me angrily. A quite a number of people were looking at us from all around the four glass walls. I bet they were hanging onto EVERY word.
"And I do NOT regret what I did. AND I WILL NOT", I paused to let that shit sink, "APOLOGISE".
Whatever it was, this wasn't what any of them expected to hear.
"And if necessary, I'd do it all. Again".
