Bellis (bell-is): The first King of Bellum; one of the seven Legends of Kartas who rallied the humans and elementals against Daetunos during the Demon Wars
Bellum (bell-uhm): One of the Seven Kingdoms; the kingdom of war
Birdcage: A contest held on the mainland of Infernum, where captured "quarry" is released to fight for people's amusement; usually, the quarries are poor demons or outlanders
Black Night, the: During the reign of King Aethyrias, a demon broke into the castle and murdered Queen Mariessa. No one knew who summoned the demon, but King Aethyrias went mad. He ordered that the entire House of Leontas be executed after listening to the rumors that plagued the Luxian ranks. After the annihilation of the previous Captain of the Guard, the House of Novire was promoted and still holds its position.
Blood Contract: A contract that binds the contractor and contractee by blood; invisible runes mark the right arm of both the contractor and contractee; until the contract is broken or rescinded, the souls of contractor and contractee are connected; both parties do not need to give consent to enter the contract, only blood is necessary
Borus (boar-us): One of the twelve Atryus; one of the twelve Holy Spirits of Caelum; the God of luxury, strength, and labor; the moon of Borus is the month of June—every month is named after one of the Atryus

Caeli Isles (kay-lee): The floating islands of Pacem, where the source of Sperofell and the capital of Laecris are located
Caelic (kay-lick): One of the major religions of Kartas; the believers and followers of Caeluros
Caelin (kay-lin): Hoseok's younger sister; the Princess of Pacem; her legs were paralyzed after an accident that also killed the late Crown Princess of Pacem
Caelro Scriptures (kay-ler-oh): The religious textbook of the Caelic religion; the compilation of religious writings into a collection deemed worthy to be the religious textbook of Caelic

Captus Sea, the (cap-tus): The sea on the eastern coast of Kartas; no one knows what lies beyond its unforgiving waves
Cardien (car-dee-an): Jin's youngest brother; one of the three princes of Vita
Catrinia (cat-trin-ee-uh): The capital of Sapientia
Ceithre Throne (say-ter): The throne of the God of seasons, Kardain; a myth that details the origin of the seasons—Kardain had four counterparts that took turns sitting on the throne: Foneas, Aestiva, Caidus, and Breima, but one day, Foneas gave Kardain a sleeping potion that was stolen from Rakhus and blessed by Imsomes. Kardain fell into a deep slumber, while his counterparts separated from him and waged war for the throne. Only when Kardain was awake did peace befall them, so when the seasons are uncontrolled and wild, it is believed that Kardain is sleeping. When the seasons are controlled, it is believed that Kardain is awake. And when the seasons last too long or fluctuate, people will say that "so-in-so has taken the throne" to reference the myth.
Centarius (sen-tar-ee-us): One of the twelve Atryus; one of the twelve Holy Spirits of Caelum; the God of archery, healing, and the wilderness; the bridge between Caelum and Kartas; the moon of Centarius is the month of January—every month is named after one of the Atryus
Centrilia (sen-trill-ee-ah): A herb from Vita used for potions and tea
Clarica (klah-rick-ah): The capital of Lux
Cleona (clay-oh-nah): The Queen of Sapientia; Namjoon's mother
Conquests of Light, the: During the reign of King Raiagus, Lux began to conquer other kingdoms. At this point in Luxian history, the nobles and Luxians were convinced by Raiagus that they were superior to the other kingdoms because of their unique culture and military might. The first kingdom to fall was Umbra, but when Hiemura didn't fall, Raiagus spread the Luxian Plague that cursed Umbra for many years. After Umbra fell, Bellum, Pacem, and Tenebris joined forces against Lux. This led to the Great Southern Wars.
Crimson Death: The plague that spread to Umbra and started in Lux; it caused people to cry blood tears; the disease tore the body from the inside out and caused organ failure; because of the amount of blood, it was named the Crimson Death in Umbra
Cursed Void: The territory in Bellum and a part of Pacem covered by so much smoke and ash that it is nearly impossible to cross; it is called the "Cursed Void" because people believe that Furicun cursed that land
Cursed Wastelands: The territory in Bellum and a part of Pacem where the land is scorched and barren; people call it the "Cursed Wastelands" because it is believed that Furicun cursed that land

Daeli Isles (day-lee): The archipelago south of Lux that lies in the Rekaiah Sea; it is believed that the last Daelics reside there in hiding, waiting for the day Daetunos returns
Daetunos (deh-toon-ohs): The God of Infernum, hell, demons, and the Zarynth
Darius Van Deene (dare-ee-us van dean): One of the five Inner Petals of the Dark Lotus; usually travels with another assassin named Meskit
Dark Lotus: A union of murderers, thieves, assassins, hitmen, slavers, and aristocrats working to tear down the corrupt system of Lux
Demon Days: An era in history when Daetunos conquered Kartas; a period after the Demon War
Demon War: The war between Kartas and the demons of Infernum
Dire Roots: Tree roots located in some of the bigger forests in Kartas that form a pit and strangle anyone who wanders into them; frequently found in the Forbidden Forest

Lost City, the: A city on the Daeli Isles that was once inhabited by the Daelics who were banished by the High Caist; over the years, travel to the city diminished, and eventually, the people living there vanished; to this day, people avoid the ruins of the abandoned city in fear that they may run into demons or spirits of the dead

Lucidius (loo-sid-ee-us): The second King of Lux
Lucidius Lake (loo-sid-ee-us): The biggest lake in Kartas; it was named after Lucidius, the second King of Lux
Lucius: Highest-ranking member of the Dark Lotus; founder of the Dark Lotus
Lumina (loo-meen-uh): The second-largest city in Lux; the location of the Luxian traders' market
Lux (lucks): One of the Seven Kingdoms; the kingdom of light
Luxian Plague: It was a plague that decimated Lux and killed thousands. During the Conquests of Light, the plague receded, but when Hiemura did not fall after Lux conquered Umbra, King Raiagus catapulted dead bodies contaminated with the plague into Hiemura. The disease spread, and soon, Umbra suffered a great loss. The plague ended just a decade ago, taking the Crown Prince of Umbra, Tobias, with it.

Raigist Massacre (ray-gist): During King Raiagus's reign, he committed many unforgivable sins that tainted Luxian history. This was one of them. He catapulted dead bodies that were contaminated by the Luxian Plague into Hiemura, thus spreading the plague that was slowly dying off. His actions resulted in the death of thousands.
Raiagus (ra-ee-ay-gus): Called the Devil of Light; the king who started the Great Southern Wars to expand Lux's territory and power; his ideology spurred the creation of a group of followers called Raigist
Rakhus (rack-us): The God of wine, potions, tonics, and sobriety

River of Ash, the: It is named for its dark color and ash that pollutes its water. Ash from the Cursed Void in the west flies towards a small lake in the Alta Mountains, which is the river's source. From there, the ash runs downstream towards Lake Glacius.
Roost: A tavern in Lumina famous for its expansive collection of wine; Amic Inkiraj was hiding in this tavern until Two and Adrian came to kill him
Royal Academy: The school where people (mostly aristocrats) can attend to rise through the Luxian ranks
