Chapter 2
Chapter 2
—————
Flame
———
"One day, Flame, one day." I flinch as Dad bangs his hand down on the desk. "I ask you to look after the castle for one day and this is what happens? This is the third attack in a month!" He yells angrily.
"But Dad, that's just the thing." I plead with him, "Three attacks in in a month and it's always either me or Fang in charge! It's as if she knows your every move!"
"I don't know what your game is, Flame," he says, in a terrifyingly quiet and collected manner, "but if you can't stop one stupid girl from her petty thievery, how do you believe you're going to stop a war in the future, when you are king? How will you prevent uprisings, hmm?" I stay quiet and look down at my feet, ashamedly. "Well, boy? It's not a rhetorical question. Answer me!" Dad growls.
"I... I don't know sir." I mumble.
"Didn't think so." He replies. "Dismissed." He turns away and waves his hand at me gesturing me to leave. I shuffle out of his office and close the door behind me. Stupid guards, stupid gate, stupid everything! It's not my fault she got away! If no one can stop one stupid girl, how are we going to stop a stupid war in the stupid future. How are we going to prevent stupid uprisings! What am I going to do?
Dad told me to take care of the castle for a day, and this is what happens? This is third attack in 1 month and every time its either me or Fang in charge. It's as if she knows dad's every move, and anyway, why does she keep targeting us? Does she have some grudge against us. I walk down the hall and stop by the room she escaped from, to check the progress of my servants. It's taken all morning to try to clean off that signature she's put on the wall, and still no improvement. It must be stuck there by pretty powerful magic.
"How's it going, Fang?" I ask my brother. He's sitting in the office chair with his feet on the desk, unconcernedly watching as the servants try their best to scrape it off.
"Dad said he doesn't want it painted over." He replies boredly, "But we're all thinking it'll have to be." I look over at the commotion and feel glad it's not me having to try and get it off. "He also said he wants you to finish the job, as your punishment." Fang sneers at me. It seems I spoke too soon. I curse under my breath.
"What? This is servants work, I'm the bloody prince! Anyway, it's not my fault, she broke in again." I grumble.
"That's not how dad sees it. But if you want to tell him that, be my guest. Maybe he'll even let you clean out his fireplace." Fang jokes. I scowl at him, grabbing a tool from one off the servants and begin scraping at the wall. The rest of the servants silently pack up the tools and leave the room.
"Why does she keep targeting us, anyway?" I ask, "There are plenty of other people to steal from around here."
Fang shrugs. "I hear she gives the money to the poor."
"Yeah, right. Who does she think she is, Robin Hood?"
"Whatever. I'm going out." Fenrir gets up and walks across the room, to the door. "Have fun!" He calls over his shoulder.
"Go to hell, Fang!" I retort back.
As I work, I think back to last night. The thing was, just before she jumped, she looked directly at me. Straight into my eyes. That scarf was covering up most of her face, to protect her identity I suppose, she had smokey blue eyes with gold specks in them. Its too bad she was so hot. Maybe, just maybe I would spare her life if... What on earth am I thinking! This is crazy! II would never spare that girl's life! After all the destruction she's caused? Of course not.
I thought about the main hall. The resting place of 2 of dad's most hated people, Quene and Xavic Legend. Those two were so stupid, tried to defy my dear kind daddy who only wanted to punish their dear sweet innocent daughter for killing my mom! Instead they put up a worthless fight, and see where it got them? It got them frozen in a heartbeat and placed in my father's hall. Since my dad was so forgiving he decided to leave the girl and her stupid, cowering brother alone and take their parents in their place. How do I know all this good, juicy information? I was there observing the whole thing. The girl even had the guts to enter a stare down contest with me. Now that I think about it, the little pathetic Legend girl had the same eye color as the stupid thief girl. That was the only time I lost a stare down competition. Wonder what happen to them. I hope they have died. Wait, erase that. I hope the girl is still alive. Then I can have the pleasure of ruining her life. Then I get my long awaited revenge on the one who took my mother's life.
I grit my teeth and start to scrape at the mark on the wall with vicious celerity, then, finding that it's going nowhere, threw down the tool. I grabbed a paintbrush from behind me, and without looking, painted an angry red streak over the signature. In disgust, I throw the paint brush against the far wall, splattering the paint all across the room. The brush hits the wall and falls to the ground, catching fire. I barely notice, nor do I care, as I leave.
