Chapter 18

    Flame

    I ran my hands through my hair for the 100th time, groaning in frustration at the current situation as I approached the parlour where I had left Ice. Remembering that I had left her with the arrogant and prideful Princess Liana, I quickened my steps in haste. Fearing the worst of Princess Liana, that she had turned on Ice in my absence and harmed her badly. Sprinting the last few steps, I reached the parlour door. Hesitating only to catch my breath, I swing the doors open. The sight surprised me. There in the middle of the room, curled up on a couch, Ice stayed quietly reading a book. The room was empty except for her presence and that fact calmed my anxious heart. She looked up from her book, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. A sweet, beautiful smile adorned her face as she gazed at me through her hair. Her eyes sparkling with stars.

    “Hey, you’re back! I’ve been waiting forever, you taken ages to get back.”

    “Where did everyone go?”

    “Oh, Fang went to go attend to some “prince” duties while Princess Liana stalked off after we got into a little spite.”

    “Are you okay?”

    “Perfectly fine. You know, I love this book. It’s a pretty story. Lewis Carroll is a fantastic author.”

    “I agree with you on that. Sorry that you had to wait for me for so long Ice. Just had to clear up a few misunderstandings.”

    “Did it work?”

    “Not really, yet. I’m working on it, I will get it cleared.”

    “It’s okay, take your time. As long as we stay together right? Together, forever, together we stay, until the day we die. That’s the promise, right?”

    “Yeah. Together forever, together we stay, until the day we die. I just got you back, I’m not letting myself leave you again. That would just kill me.”

    I stared at her. Maybe, just maybe.

    “Ice-”

    “Flame-

    We started to speak simultaneously, needing to get our thoughts across out of our minds and to each other.

“You can go first, Flame.”

“No it’s okay, you can go first, Ice.”

“Okay, here goes. Flame, I know we just reunited about a week and a half, but it was if we never left each other. When I was younger, I-I had a crush on you and now it’s come back full force. I-I don’t like you anymore, though.”

My heart dropped. I guess she didn’t really-

“Oh, it’s ok. I used to have a crush on you as well and in fact it also has come back for me, but if-”

“Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t like you anymore Flame. But I-I love you. There, I said it.”

Her face flushed a deep red once again. Her eyes darting around the room, landing on everything but me. My eyes softened and my heart started thumping and every once in a while, it skipped a beat. I place my hands to cup her face so that she would look me in the eyes.

“Oh Ice, I hope what you say is true because you interrupted me halfway. I love you too and will love you forever, no! I will love you five-ever.”

“That was a horrible joke, Flame, but what I say will forever will be true. I love you now and for-five-ever.”

I got down on one knee and her hand flew to her mouth.

“Don’t get down on your knees! Isn’t this a bit early, Flame?”

She started stuttering and rambling, trying to get me to stop “proposing”. I snorted and laughed.

“Calm down Ice and do me a favour, shut up for a bit.”

“I-”

“Shhh. Ice-”

I took her hand.

“Would you make me the luckiest guy in the world and be my girlfriend?”

Her eyes started to water.

“Ye-Yes! Of course. Of course I will be your girlfriend.”

I jumped up, picking her up in the process. Swinging her around in circles, I finally got to do what I wanted since I first saw her intruding into the palace. I kissed her, sweetly. It was as if fireworks were going off in the background. As I put her back on the ground, I grinned an infectious grin. I then took a longer, second kiss. Now, I had Ice as my beautiful girlfriend, I needed to get rid of the unwanted fiancée, ugh if only we could be a couple without all this annoying and unwanted trouble.
