Chapter 21
Gerudo Desert
Link started his adventure on the vast desert, and started to look for any clues or signs of the last Great Fairy of Hyrule. After a brief time of adventuring, he found himself on a carpet, and a man was close to it; Link went to speak.
- "Well well, I never expected to see another face around here, other than my workers. We were on the middle of building some stairs until they decided to "quit". They told me that the life of a carpenter is not cool and decided to go to Gerudo Fortress. First of all, why would they want to go to a place like that?. After all, men are forbidden to enter down there. I hope they change their mind and come back so we can finish this stairs, which leads directly to Lake Hylia. Hey, if you plan on going to the fortress, then please see if you can find out what happened to my workers."
Link went to check the stairs the carpenter was talking about. Only half of the stairs were finished; he then countinued his quest.
Gerudo Fortress
He saw people patrolling some areas. He hid behind a rock and looked carefully from there. He noticed that everyone on the fortress were women. Link also saw a big gate a bit far of the fortress, which was also been guarded. Link decided to go to the fortress first while avoiding the guards. Link managed to enter the fortress through the main entrance, and the first thing he saw was one of the carpenters inside a cell.
- "Hey, you! Young man over there! Look over here, inside the cell!" The carpenter said.
*Link heard everything and went to him*
- "I have no idea where you come from, but you must have a lot of guts to make it past all the guards around here! All of my fellow carpenters are imprisioned somewhere in here. If you can get us out of here, we'll repay the favor somehow! But be careful! There're sure to be Gerudo guards somewhere around here... Woo Watch out!"
A Gerudo appeared behind Link. She tried to attack him, but Link blocked it with his Hylian Shield and pushed her away. This Gerudo was more different than the others. She had orange hair like the rest, but her dress was different, and she
was holding two long swords. She wanted to stop Link and prevent him from saving the carpenter.
The Gerudo was pretty well skilled with the swords. She was agile and fast. Her swords were also deadly. One slice and Link ends beated with one shot. Link fought the Gerudo with great strength, but also while studying her movements. With some skills and wisdom, he knocked the Gerudo down, and a Small Key felt from one of her pockets. She then got up and escaped, dissapearing from Link's eyesight. Link got the Small Key and opened the door cell with it, freeing the carpenter.
- " Did you come here to save me? Oh, that's swell!. We were really interested in joining their all-female group, but they locked us up like this just because we're men! We don't care about the Gerudo anymore! The're so rude! Three of my fellows have also been captured, so please help them escape too!"
The carpenter got out of the cell and fled from the fortress, and Link kept pushing forward. Once he got out of the place, he got caught by a Gerudo.
"Halt! Stay where you are!" The Gerudo yelled
*Link got caught and thrown into a cell*
- "Stupid kid! Get in there and keep quiet!" The Gerudo shouted.
There was no way for Link to get out except for a window that had a wooden door, which was also opened. Link took the Clawshot and shoot it at the wooden door, pulling himself out of the cell. He then returned to the Gerudo Fortress and entered through another entrance. Link ventured himself around the Fortress while avoiding all the Gerudos patrolling the areas and saved all three remaining carpenters, all after fighting the same Gerudo that attacked him earlier. After saving the last carpenter, that same Gerudo appeared to Link again, only that she wanted to talk to him this time.
- "I've seen your fine work. To get past the guards here, you must have good thieving skills. I used to think that all men were useless... but now that I've seen you, I don't think so anymore! My name is Nabooru, and I am the leader of this fortress. Say, you must want to become one of us, eh? All right then! You'e in from now on! Take this. With it, you will have free access to all areas of the fortress!"
Link obtained the Gerudo Token!
- "From now on, you're free to come and go as you please through the gate to the gate to the desert. You'll find the Arbiters Grounds, a place where criminals were once executed for their crimes."
Link left the Gerudo and got out of the fortress. Every Gerudo recognized Link as a member of their tribe and promised not to go after him. After asking for directions about the desert. Link was taken to the gate close to the fortress. He got there and saw a ladder. He went up the ladder and got to the top of a pillar, where a Gerudo was waiting.
- "Hey rookie! Are you going into the desert? I'll open this gate for you, but... You can't cross the desert unless you pass the two trials. The first trial is... the River of Sand! You can't walk across this river! After you cross it, follow the flags we placed there. The second trial is... the Phantom Guide! Those without eyes that can see the truth will only find themselves returning here. You are going anyway, aren't you? I won't stop you... Go ahead!"
The Gerudo did two claps and gave a sign to other Gerudos to open the gate. Once they opened the gate, Link walked down the ladder and passed through. He enter into a new section of the desert, ready to pass the trials that the Gerudo warned him.
Suddenly, a huge sandstorm appeared. It was hard to see through, but Link did see three wooden boxes nearby. However, there was some quicksand on his front, which is the River of Sand that the Gerudo spoke about. Link grabbed his Clawshot and shot it at one of the boxes. He then was pulled and got the other side.
The next thing he found was a couple of flags. He was walking around them and saw the flags that the Gerudo mentioned. Link didn't know where else to go because of the sandstorm, so he followed the flags.
He got to the last one and found some ruins. There was something at the top of the ruins, and there were some stairs leading to it. He got up the stairs and got to the top. He then started to hear a strange sound, similar to the sound that the Poes makes when they are floating around. He then saw a sign that said:
One with the eye of truth shall be guided to the Arbiter's Grounds by an inviting ghost..
Link knew that it was talking about the Lens of Truth, so he used it where he was standing. Once he looked through it, he saw a Poe close to him.
- "I'll be your guide on your way, but coming back, I won't play! I'll show you the only way to go, so follow me and don't be slow!" The Poe said.
Link followed the Poe and got more deeper into the Haunted Wasteland. There were no flags around, so if he loses the Poe, then he would be lost too. Link never lost his sight from the Poe, and after a while following it around the desert, he managed to reach his destination. The Arbiter's Grounds was just up ahead. It looked pretty big.
Link didn't know what was waiting for him up ahead, but he build his courage and kept going, hoping to find the last Great Fairy of Hyrule.
