The Legend Of The Three Stags (Lore)

Everyone knows the tale of the twin stags; Aeor and Exor; good and evil.

Everyone knows the fates of Elinar and Conell; the brothers pitted against one another as champions of the stag gods, destined to be reborn and one day clash again in new forms.

But legend has it that there is a third stag.

Drifting like quiet whispers of the wind in the night, passed around in the shadows through families, lurking nearly-forgotten in the stories told to children are clues of another stag.

They say that the third was the dawn and the dusk, the gray where black and white meet, the shore where the angry sea meets the calm beach. They say that the third was the peacemaker, the voice of reason.

The tale goes as such:

Long ago, Aoer, Exor, and Hyar were the famous trio of gods ruling the world.

Aeor was the embodiment of light and good in the world, bold and proud. They were the Sun and the day, the pinnacle of perfection. Worshipped and loved, Aeor was known to the Elves as their hero, the brave upholder of justice in a world of sins.

Exor was of course, the tail end of the coin, sneaky and devious. They were the Moon and the night, the very picture of a villain. Where Aeor seemed to bring peace, Exor sowed seeds of chaos and anger, corrupting the very hearts and minds of living creatures. They came to be known as the enemy, being compared to the devil Himself.

While Aeor and Exor were clearly opposites, Hyar was the balance, the middle. Hyar offered advice and help to all, did not side with either Aeor or Exor in their arguments, and often played mediator. Hyar was the horizon between Night and Day, the peacemaker. Many forgot about Hyar, believing them to be useless, forgettable, simply a footnote in the great story of Aoer and Exor's mighty battles. Yet without Hyar this world would long since have been destroyed by the fierce, earthshaking duels of the great stags. Hyar did their best to protect all.

The elves were blinded to Aeor's faults, believing them to be a perfect god. But Hyar saw all.

Hyar saw Aeor's arrogance and carelessness. Hyar saw how Aeor never gave Exor a chance. Hyar saw how Aeor became enamored with the elves, loved to receive their praise and worship. Hyar saw how Aeor cared not for any who went against his morals.

Hyar saw when Aeor let their selfishness blind them to Exor's fall.

Hyar saw Exor fall, and how Exor was pushed too deep because of Aeor.

One day, Exor grew angry and attempted to exterminate the elves Aeor so greatly loved because Aeor had forgotten about Exor and Hyar. Aeor was predictably furious, and attacked Exor. Hyar attempted to stop him, but Aeor was blinded by rage.

In one fateful moment, history changed forever.

It is not known how it happened, but Hyar got in between Aeor and Exor.

And in a blind fury against one another, they killed Hyar.

Aeor and Exor thereafter erased Hyar from all stories about them, preferring that no one knew of their wrongs. But the truth cannot be hidden, and the tale has been preserved in family stories. Many believe that this is what their fued is about.

On this topic, there is another rumor. This one is one that no one can prove, one that has never been tested, one that could change everything. And what is this rumor?

The rumor goes that before Hyar died, he chose a champion.

The rumor goes that one day, that champion will fulfill Hyar's role and bring peace to Aeor and Exor's eternal war.

Could it be true?

Only time will tell.
