Chapter 6: A new and old master
(Jhonny's POV)
I woke up after a little sleep time, I suppose because I was still getting used to sleeping like an animal. When I thought about that I took a look at my body: it still looked like a dragon, so it was definitely not a dream to be in the land of dragons.
Then, I looked around: Spyro, Cynder, and Sparx were still asleep. It was probably still very early.
'Training', that was what awaited me in a few hours. I was not the best in physical education, but I was not a total weakling (although I considered myself that way), even so, I was a bit worried about not living up to the challenges proposed by the guardians.
I remembered how I faced the Frog Weed, I was scared to see that creature that I would never have imagined finding; But the act of using the horns and the tail, was it a quick plan? Or something instinctive? Or for the first time did I do something of my own free will, and without making a mistake?
The second thing that worried me even more was the idea of flying: I couldn't see out of the airplane window, nor from a building with more than three floors; I always got goose bumps at the thought of falling and dying. On the other hand, every time I saw the birds fly, I felt envy: they were not afraid of the sky, probably because they had wings. Thinking about it, I looked back at my body, I could see the dragon wings that I now possessed, I shouldn't be scared now, right?
The third thought overshadowed the others: what had happened in my world? Had my body been in a coma, or would I be dead, and my soul and mind reached this other universe? Or did I just disappear from the face of the earth without leaving a trace? At home everyone would be worried about any of those possibilities. If I could tell them...
I stopped: I was sure that anyone in this situation would miss their family and their world, so they would make the decision to find a way to return, including me. But at the same time, being here makes me feel good. I mean, Spyro, Cynder, Sparx, and the guardians had even accepted me because of my origin, and I was going to learn to be a dragon. What if I'm better as a dragon than a human? Even Spyro trusted me. Besides, and after all, it was the wish I made.
Sleep was regaining control of my body... Although this time it felt very strange, almost as if he was falling hypnotized. In the end, exhaustion overcame me and I passed out.
After a short while, I woke up in a strange library somewhat resplendent with a bluish glow, there were a lot of books on the shelves and some on the floor, some very strange symbols on the walls, some bottles with colored liquids; But what was truly amazing was where the glow came from: a huge blue hourglass.
"This seems very familiar to me" I thought "Isn't that the room in which Spyro met the Chronicler?"
"I'm surprised you know this place" said a voice behind me, "Many others think this place is just a legend"
I turned quickly to see who had spoken to me, and my eyes found a blue dragon, with some shades of gray, wearing a kind of tunic of the same color and with a light blue crystal on a necklace.
Now, I was truly amazed: he really was the Chronicler, the ancient dragon with immense wisdom who records in his books everything that happens in each age. As I continued to stare at him in amazement, I remembered what happened to him ... although my memory was failing a bit.
"Let's see" I thought, "I remembered seeing that horned shape before and something related to Spyro ..."
At the next second, I finally realized it.
"You are ... Ignitus!" I exclaimed.
"You seem to know me by my other name, young dragon. Indeed, I am Ignitus, former guardian of fire and now the Chronicler of this new one that has begun until recently. But now, the real question is... Who are you? "
"They call me Jhonny, sir" I said really nervous.
"Do not be afraid to speak, young dragon. You must gain confidence in yourself"
"The truth is that I am not ..."
"I know exactly what you are, young dragon" he replied, "The story you told the other guardians also came to me."
"Then Mr. Ignitus, do you know?"
"Exactly, it seems that when Spyro rebuilt the world with his power, perhaps his magic must have connected with your dimension, generating a rift in your world and possibly others, because the energy that was generated at that time was very powerful"
"So, you mean I got through one of those ways through a dream I had?" I asked for
"That's right, although it seems that only those with very powerful dreams and a mind that believe in magic can enter," he replied.
I was proud of those words, while I was not the best person in skills or intellect, I was always a great dreamer, especially when it came to the fantastic or impossible. But I remembered something important:
"But isn't this world just ..."
"A game on a machine? Yes and no, many of yours have the theory that worlds or universes are different and infinite, and that's fine. But they must also know that some new ones can arise as long as there are beings who, through their dreams and imagination, have or have had a faithful belief in it.
I tried to understand those words:
"So, as long as one believes in something, does that something come true in another universe?" I thought.
"Look at it from another plane of an existence, where many calls its fiction, something that contrasts with reality," explained the chronicler, "But the truth is, that one reality can create many others. And surely, you are not the first to imagine things, who knows how many humans have already traveled to other universes created by their own imagination "
"It is not difficult to understand, but I think I have already heard that theory sometime" I said, "I always imagined such a world, although I never expected to reach it"
"Nobody knows what would have happened. But your soul was always that of a dragon with a desire to overcome its fears and mistakes. " He replied, "Everything happens for a reason. Fate can be both cruel and fascinating "
"So, I have a destiny here?"
"That's right," he said, "Any creature could have crossed the portal. However, and for some reason, our ancestors saw you arrive and transformed you into what you are now "
"The ancestors ... you mean those huge figures that I saw among the golden lights?"
"Right, and if they did that, it must be because you can have a fundamental role in this world. Nothing happens for no reason, everyone has a destiny to fulfill Jhonny, and if he is not where you are, he may be in another place, even in this reality. If you want to know what your destiny is, you should come see me"
"Wait a minute, aren't you here?" I asked puzzled.
"This is only a temporary communication through your dreams, to be able to see me for real you must come to the white island" he explained "And you have someone nearby who can help you get to me, right?"
I tried to remember who it could be. It was not very difficult to find the answer.
"You mean Spyro?"
"Yes, he knows how to get here. Also, it will be a pleasure to see you both, Cynder and Sparx again. "
"But you couldn't go to them?"
"Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I died in the last war, but I was assigned the task of being the new Chronicler, and as such, I cannot leave the island.
"I see, then I'll tell them."
"Don't be impatient, young dragon" it seems I had to get used to being called that "I want you to please don't tell them anything about me, at least until we all see each other. If Spyro or Cynder knew I was alive here they would fly like lightning to find me. Now go to this room, I have to show you something before you wake up "
"I understand" and I walked through a door that had appeared on the side of the room.
The instant I walked through the door, I found myself on what looked like a floating island of rock in an environment akin to the realm of convexity. In the center of the island, there was a kind of circle with the colors of fire. Before I knew it, I noticed that the door and Ignitus had disappeared.
"Enter that circle" Ignitus' voice told me, though I didn't know where it came from. I assumed it was part of that 'communication' that he had explained to me earlier. In such a way that I entered. Upon entering, nothing special happened, they seemed only effects of lights.
"By your characteristics and spirit, you seem to possess the element of fire" the voice told me, "Now let's see if you can awaken it."
Now he was super nervous: handle the power of fire? Would it really be a human now turned dragon to do such a thing? I had too many doubts: as a normal person, it is logically to think that it is not possible. But now he was in a different world, with a different body, he should at least try.
"Are you ready? Well then, empty your mind, and feel the fire that flows through your veins"
I had to focus on feeling warmth deep within my new self. For a moment, I could feel like my blood was starting to circulate faster and some heat from deep inside. Then, I stop feeling it.
"That's right, you're on the right track" Ignitus encouraged me, "but you must have confidence that you have a great sleeping power that wants to awaken. Get into your mind, burn your past and ignite your future. Listen to your new dragon instincts and try again"
"Okay," I replied, a little more animated now. I put aside all thoughts of a human and concentrated on that now I was a dragon, I must achieve it. Once again, I emptied my mind and felt that heat, but it seemed that now the sensation was more intense.
"Alright, now let the heat consume you, and breathe it in."
I breathed while I felt that heat that was expanding throughout my body, it was as if it was turning me on, but being conscious and without burning ... I almost felt it in my mouth ...
"Now get up, and expel those flames from within you"
Unconsciously, my body lifted. It was like taking a deep breath, and then a long exhale, only this time, I could feel the fire that built up inside and came out with incredible force from inside me: a great wave of fire surrounded me and dispersed in various directions. After this I felt normal, although with a bit of heat.
"Very good, young dragon" said the voice of Ignitus "I see that you have mastered the fury of fire, it is incredible, considering that you have not learned much about being a dragon."
"Well, I seem to be a quick learner," I joked a bit. I was happy about my great achievement, but at the same time a little tired.
"So, it seems," his voice replied, "but you're not done yet."
"Okay, I'll try to take it more seriously" I replied, something flowed in my blood, like a huge desire to learn, "Go ahead, I feel ready to learn."
"Very good, but first you need to recover energy. Go to the next room, please. "
A door appeared in front of me, but I was no longer impressed: so much had happened to me since I transformed into a dragon that I was no longer so scared. I went through the door.
Once through the threshold, I found myself in a room with the same colors as the library, but without books or rare objects. In the center of the room were two large gems of red and green respectively.
"Touch the green gem," Ignitus' voice told me.
I approached the gem and touched it with some fear, perhaps I thought that the energy would burn me or electrocute me, but it did not. I barely put a hand (or paw) on it, the gem shone and several fragments surrounded me, and at the same time, I felt full of energy again.
"These are a gift from the ancestors, which last for generations and are present in each era" his voice told me "The green gems recover your energy, while the red ones heal you from your wounds and blows"
"Well, I understand" I said removing my hand from the gem, "I think now I feel completely restored"
"Very good, then now try to attack this enemy" he said and, out of nowhere, a statue in the shape of a warrior in armor and an ax appeared.
He was scared: fighting a Frog Weed was one thing, but with a stone warrior, could he really do it? By the time I reacted, the warrior brandished his ax, which I hardly dodged. I had managed to make a cut in my side and blood began to drip, it was not a dream, this was true.
"Wait! I don't know how to do this" I claimed. It was useless, Ignitus' voice fell silent and he didn't respond at all.
What could I do? I was trapped with a living statue wielding an ax. The best thing to do was dodge it, but it couldn't be like this forever. Maybe I was clumsy before, but it was better to die trying to fight.
"I must fight, otherwise I will die" I thought, "Let's see, feel the fire inside me ..."
Under pressure of being about to be killed was more difficult, but I remembered the previous lesson: I had to feel the fire inside me, breathe it in and release it with an exhale, I had to let my feelings burn with the fire. Instantly, a blast of fire shot out of my mouth, burning the warrior and driving him away.
"I really did it!" I exclaimed
But he was not finished yet: the warrior was recovering from the scorch and was beginning to approach. But he was not prepared for what was going to happen.
Now I was more determined, confident, motivated and stronger than ever. I decided to charge the horns against the enemy. At that moment, I once again felt warmth surrounding me. I thought it was because of the excitement I was feeling, but then a large amount of live fire surrounded me and made me go faster against the enemy.
Upon colliding with him, it fell apart and I returned to my normal speed, although I was still in a daze from the speed. With great difficulty, I managed to stop myself from hitting a wall.
"Congratulations, young dragon" Ignitus' voice returned, "you seem to have full control of the fire. You really are very skilled at this. Now, touch the red gem to heal yourself".
I did it like that. As with green, a glow emanated from it, although this time it was red, just like the gems that surrounded me. After a second or two, the gems disappeared, as well as the wound made by the statue.
"Very well done, Jhonny" I blinked several times: somehow, I had returned to the library, and Ignitus was by my side, "Now that you have learned the control of fire, you must return."
"Thank you for teaching me Ignitus" I said, "I don't think I could have done it without your support."
"The power was always in you" he replied, "You just needed to have confidence in your new abilities. Never forget: The supreme test of virtue consists in possessing unlimited power without abusing it "
"I promise you; I will not let your teachings be in vain. I will try to use this power for the good of others, to help "
"That makes me confirm that you are not an evil dragon like Malefor was" he said, "Now go back and don't forget to come see me and the experiences you got ..."
At that moment, I felt everything spin around me, and I fainted again.
