Chapter 5: An Incredible Story
Now I had really spoiled everything, because everyone was looking at me with enough attention. They were very shocked by this revelation, obviously. I kept quiet until Terrador decided to ask:
"What exactly do you mean by that? Are you talking about another universe?" everyone expected me to respond.
"Yes ... more or less, I come from another universe" I said, "This ... do you know what a human is?"
"Human? Um, I haven't heard of a creature like that before" said Volteer, "There are still many unnamed creatures, some that can be quite mysterious, enigmatic, intriguing ... er ... um ..."
"Why are you asking that Jhonny? Does a 'human' have something to do with you?" Cynder asked.
"Honestly ... it has to see everything" I replied, "You see, a 'human' is a primate ... something like an ape"
There was a minute of silence, everyone who was there knew that the apes in their world were not good at all, because they fought against them in war.
"An ape?" said Sparx, "Are there more apes where do you come from?"
"Actually yes. But most of them have evolved into intelligent creatures," I said.
"As you say, I don't want to have to face them in another war ..." Cyril said.
"The truth is that several of them live normal lives ... they are the dominant species of their world, which is called Earth"
"Wow, what a place it must be ..." said Sparx.
"And aren't they looking for war? Um, it seems the opposite of what we had" Spyro said.
"In the past, they had various wars, but they fought each other, not against other species," I continued.
"It all seems really fascinating" said Terrador, "But what do they have to do with you?"
I thought for a moment to speak, I knew I had to tell them the truth:
"I ... am ... or at least, before I was ... a human"
Another minute of silence passed. Then Cynder spoke:
"But, at first glance ... you look like a dragon"
"By the ancestors, I can't believe the logic of that possibility! An evolved creature from the apes, from another universe, transformed into a dragon in ours!" said Volteer, "Such a phenomenon should not be possible, although similar events happened at times, but this completely changes everything! This is really shocking, incredible ... er ...
"Volteer, calm down" stopped Terrador.
"Oh, sorry, sometimes I have a habit of get away with words. In any case, I have a question: if you are from another world, how did you get here? "
I then proceeded to tell them the story of what had happened to me while I slept: the strange void of floating islands, the darkness and the lights with the huge figures.
"... And then I appeared as a dragon. I know it seems like a very strange dream ..."
"I've had weird dreams before too, so I believe you" Spyro said.
"Terrador, what do you think the dream that Jhonny had means?" Cynder asked.
"Umm ... I don't know exactly. But I think the void, the floating islands and the beams of light belong to the realm of convexity."
"The realm of convexity?" I asked puzzled.
"It is a space between dimensions" said Spyro "Long ago, an evil dragon, Malefor, tried to escape from his portal through it".
"While he was manipulating me ..." Cynder added, regret could be seen on his face.
"Don't blame yourself Cynder, it wasn't your fault" Spyro consoled her and then Terrador joined him.
"Not only the Malefor prison portal is there" said the guardian, looking at me "If someone explores the dark space carefully, he will realize that there are other portals that are hidden by the darkness, although some are very far away from the others. Also, each beam of light is said to lead to a different universe. But the strangest thing is how you got there in the first place. "
"I don't know, I was sleeping and I appeared there..."
"I'm sorry, but I don't know what that might have meant upon your entry into the realm of convexity. Frankly, Ignitus was better if it was about a dream interpretation or a vision" replied the guardian.
"Yeah, he known very much..." Spyro said, looking quite sad.
"Well, I think it's getting late, we should all go to sleep" said Terrador "but before that we should talk about something else with our new friend."
I tensed: would they really accept me or put me under surveillance?
"According to what I was told, you saved Sparx in a very heroic way, although according to you've never fought, right?" he asked.
I nodded nervously.
"And based on what happened at dinner, you don't know how to use your element either."
"No, I don't know how"
"Don't worry" then he looked at me from horns to tail, "Um, it seems that, by appearance, your element is fire. Which indicates that you should have full control of fire. But before that, can you fly? "
"No, I've just learned to use my claws and tail a little."
"Well, that's a very basic thing. But, anyway, if you are going to stay here for a while, you need to learn to move better in combat and also to fly, is that okay?" Terrador said.
Now he was in trouble. I was always a coward when it comes to high altitudes, but at the same time I always wanted to know how it felt to be flying in the air, how was I supposed to fly, if that idea scares and excites me at the same time?
"I don't know, I don't want to bother you, I don't know if I would fit in here ..." I replied very nervous.
"Don't worry about that Jhonny" said Spyro, "You may not consider yourself a dragon, but you saved Sparx and that was very heroic. You deserve a place here, at least until you find out what happened"
I felt happier than anyone at those words, I never believed that someone could accept me for what I was and not for what I seemed.
"Thanks, Spyro" I replied, "I guess I can try"
"Well then, it's decided! Tomorrow you will start with a training to get used to your stay here. Spyro will help you when it comes to exhalation of fire, is that okay, Spyro?"
"It will be a pleasure Terrador" he replied. Then she turned to me, "Don't worry, the training may be tough, but it's also fun."
"Ok, thanks Spyro" I thanked him, but something told me that it would be harder than fun.
"Then you better go to sleep now, you will need a lot of energy to move tomorrow" Terrador decided "Spyro, Cynder there is a fairly large room at the end of the hall, there is also enough space for Jhonny and Sparx.
"Thank you Terrador, good night to you" said Spyro, and Cynder, Sparx and I followed him.
"Good night, young dragons" replied the guardians.
We went to the room that Terrador indicated, it was quite spacious. On the floor, there were three beds of leaves as big as palm trees, and a small one for Sparx. They all took their beds and then we went to sleep.
"I can't believe my life" I thought, "one day you're in a world worrying about what the future will hold for you, and the next you're in a world you never thought would really exist, with new friends and training to come. I hope that I'll be better as a dragon and don't end in another disaster "
"Can't you sleep, friend?" Spyro told me, who was still awake in his bed.
"A little. Can I ask you something, Spyro?" I said to him, to which he nodded, "Why have you all treated me so well despite being a stranger?"
"Because you're not more different than Cynder" he replied, "She was Malefor's servant before, but then she backed off. Since then, I learned that everyone should be given a chance and then even Sparx learned to trust strangers"
"Wow, that's a great detail ..."
"Don't worry about what you were before, you will surely love being a dragon. The training that Cynder and I had was not a piece of cake, though. It may take a few more days to get used to your body."
"It seems so" I said in a yawn, "Well, first I think we should rest. Good night friend"
"Good night"
(Terrador's POV)
Meanwhile, the guardians engaged in a private conversation in the room where they had been before.
"Are you sure you want Terrador to stay?" asked Cyril, "Not that he looks like an evil ape to me, but we have had several problems with that species in the past."
"Maybe" said Volteer, "But last time we admitted back to Cynder despite what she did to us. And we must not jump to conclusions before we get to know him better. Jhonny seems nice and I detect in him, a great potential and a burning flame, which is very strange to find"
"That is one of the two reasons why I do it" said Terrador, "Ignitus told us that we should leave the past to have a new beginning, a better one"
"Very well" said Cyril, "Then I accept him, as I did with Cynder. By the way, what is the other reason?"
Terrador looked strangely at the other guardians before giving an answer:
"Because there is a possibility" said Terrador, "that he was sent by the ancestors"
