Marinette POV
I woke up in a hospital bed and the first thing I noticed was the intense pain in my side.
"Ah!" I gasped feeling the pain radiating from my ribs.
"Poor thing, you have a broken rib Marinette, but don't worry,we have someone who can help." Said a strangely familiar voice. I looked to my left and saw a nurse in a red and black uniform. She had long red hair that was knotted up into a bun. I tried to remember where I had heard her voice when my grandfather came ambling into the room.
"Ah! Marinette I see that you are awake! I also see that you have met Tikki, good that will make explaining things much easier. " He said smiling as he looked between me and the nurse. I shook my head feeling confused and accidentally noticed a black ring on my right hand. I held it up to look closer and suddenly everything came rushing back: my fight with Adrian's mother, the way that Adrian and his father tried to protect me, and the moment that Adrian and I shared before she came barging in. I felt my face heat up and I buried my head under the blankets.
"Hehe, Master, I'm afraid your granddaughter seems to be having slight difficulty coping with her adventures." The nurse giggled. I peeked out from under the blankets and asked,
"Grandad, why did she call you 'master'?" He smiled at me and pulled a chair over to the bed. He sat down and began to explain.
"Our family has been the guardians of the portal for millennia. Back before we were banished by the king of Papillon and the other rulers to this world we guarded it from the Miraculous side of the portal, keeping people of this world from crossing over, and once we were sent here we kept people from coming from the other side. You were a special case, when they were banished the current head of the family- a girl named Bridgett from what the stories say-left the current prince Noir a way to lift our banishment in a time of crisis. When you received the invitation from the current prince, the banishment was lifted and you were allowed to enter the portal without my permission as an emissary from our bloodline." When he stopped explaining I stared at him, feeling mixed emotions about what I had just been told. Unfortunately I didn't have any time to process the information because he was already moving on,
"Every kingdom or Queendom has two main bloodlines, this is because every family has two patron Kwamis. The Papillon kingdom has the Papillon line and the Noir line, this is because the two patron Kwamis are Nooroo the Kwami of transmission and control and Plagg the Kwami of destruction and general annoyance; the Salihafa kingdom has the Salihafa and the lebah-abeille bloodline due to its patron Kwamis Wayzz the Kwami of protection and longevity and Pollen the Kwami of subjection and nobility; the Renarde Queendom has the Renarde and chienne bloodlines because of the Kwamis Trixx the Kwami of illusions and truth, and yes Marinette I know that that title is a bit of an oxymoron but please, as well as Barkk the Kwami of Loyalty-his actual powers are honestly unknown he doesn't like using it for some reason-; the Conkhỉ kingdom has the Conkhỉ and con hổ-tigresse bloodline as a result of the two patrons Xuppu the Kwami of disruption and jubilation and Roarr the Kwami of courage-again she doesn't use her power often enough for me to know it, for the Kwami of courage she tends to be a little shy-; of course there are the kingdoms and queendoms that no longer exist such as the Mayura Queendom that once had the Kwamis Duusu and Orikko but once the Queendom fell they no longer had anything to be patrons of and abandoned Miraculous as a whole, Duusu was very much against it but she couldn't convince him that they had any reason to stay; and finally, the Ryu Queendom has the Ryuko and the Piáo chóng bloodlines, this is because the two patron Kwamis used to be Longg, the Kwami of weather and Tikki the Kwami of creation and luck. Unfortunately for them when our family was exiled Tikki chose to stay with our bloodline as a guardian and abandoned Miraculous." He finally finished and I had to take some time to process. Ok, so I apparently come from a long line of Miraculous-Earth portal guardians who got banished/exiled for God knows what on my mother's side. Honestly that kinda explains a lot where my granddad is concerned. Along with that apparently Kagami and I are distantly related. Not only that but it turns out that Mayura may actually be a person and my nurse is somehow a goddess! As I desperately tried to absorb this information without panicking my grandfather chuckled slightly and said,
"It would appear that you have some other visitors, I think Tikki and I will leave you in their hands for a moment before we continue this. It will give you time for all I have told you to sink in." With that the two of them left and all my friends from here came rushing into the room. Lila tackled me shaking with sobs as Chloe stood by Luka acting like she wasn't crying. Luka just stood there looking worried and relieved.
"Marinette! I was so worried!!!! We heard that you got hurt in the bakery and we ran right over but they wouldn't let us in! We thought you were in critical condition or something!" Lila yelled hugging her tightly. I felt pain shoot through me from my broken rib and I gently pushed her away.
"I'm not in critical condition but I will be soon if you keep hugging me that hard while I have a broken rib." I said with a pained smile. She apologized profusely and I noticed Chloe nudging Luka out of the corner of my eye. He approached me cautiously and asked,
"So.... how are you feeling Marinette?" I gave him a small, apologetic smile as I realized two things: one, he was a great friend but I don't think either of us really had it in us to really be dating, and two, I was probably going to break his heart when I told him I couldn't be with him anymore.
"I'm feeling pretty good considering, but um.... girls could I have a moment alone with Luka?" They exchanged a look before silently exiting the room. I gestured for Luka to sit down and he sat on the edge of my bed. I took his hands and smiled warmly before saying,
"Luka, we've been together for a while now and I've been thinking...... when I got hurt it put a lot of things into perspective and-" he smiled and kissed my hand.
"We don't harmonize as well as we wish we did, I understand, it hurts me to admit it but I understand." He said with a sad smile. I nodded gratefully knowing that it would be a load off my mind to know that there were no hard feelings. We gestured for the girls to come in. I asked them to catch me up on everything that I'd missed and they all shared a concerned look.
"Marinette your dad only found you an hour ago, you've been here for thirty minutes. The only thing to catch up on is probably the fact that you have a concussion as well as a broken rib." Lila said sounding worried. I frowned and was about to say something when the nurse-er... Tikki knocked at the door to my room and said,
"Sorry kids but visiting time's over." The girls grumbled and Luka gave me a wave before leaving while Lila hugged me again and Chloe patted my shoulder. Once they were gone my grandpa came back in. The second he stepped through the door I immediately asked,
"How the hell is it possible that I've only been here for an hour and a half when I was in Miraculous for a month?!" He sighed and sat down in his chair again and responded,
"Time moves faster over there, an hour in this world is a month in theirs. So while your friends here think a half-hour has passed since you arrived at the hospital your friends back in Miraculous think you have been gone for about two weeks." He told me looking solemn. I sat bolt upright and was about to try to get out of the hospital bed when my side blazed with pain. I gasped and started seeing spots as Tikki pushed me back down.
"Master we need to heal her so that she can get up, she's too stubborn not to try again." She said urgently as she tried to keep me from getting up. My grandfather got up and walked to the edge of the bed and said,
"Marinette, this is important, if you want to heal quickly take Tikki's hand and declare the words 'lucky charm' it will summon something, just like your power, once you have summoned it throw it into the air and call out the words 'Miraculous Ladybug' it will repair the damage done to you." I nodded feeling unsure and took her hand as she leaned back to offer it. Immediately I felt power and creativity flood into me and I looked down to see that I was now wearing a red and black spotted dress with a matching bag at my side.
"Remember the words, are lucky charm." Granddad reminded me looking serious. I nodded and yelled,
"Lucky charm!" Suddenly a bright pink glow burst out of my hands and shot into the air. The glow subsided and a roll of tape dropped into my hands. I tried to remember the phrase as I threw the tape into the air again and called,
"Miraculous Ladybug!" Another bright pink glow burst out of the tape and flew down to surround me while another part broke off and flew out the window. As I felt my injuries healing I heard my grandfather mutter,
"Shit." The glow subsided and I let out a laugh.
"I can't remember having ever heard you swear before, what happened?" He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I knew I was forgetting something, I'm going to need to think of an excuse for the storeroom being all fixed up....." he answered sighing exasperatedly. I giggled and he sighed again before clapping.
"Ok, I'm going to open the portal for you, but first I have two gifts." He said reaching into what frankly looked like a bowling bag at his feet. He withdrew a bundle of cloth and a small black box with a red symbol on the top.
"This is our family banner and in this box I have the Piáo chóng family seal." He stated offering them to me. I gingerly took them from his hands and gently opened the box. In it was a pair of Ladybug print earrings. I put them on reverently and gave him a tight hug.
"I'm not sure how long I'll be gone but I want to say thank you granddad. You've always been there to help me, but now it's my turn to help someone, is there anything else I should know?" I released him from the hug and gave him a stern look. He smiled and nodded saying,
"The power of the Mayura bloodline is to create 'sentimonsters' from the power of people's emotions, the stronger an emotion is the stronger a sentimonster will be. Sentimonsters can look like humans, and if they are given the object they are bound to they can obtain free will so long as it's actions stem from the emotions that created it." I felt my eyes widen as a realization hit me.
"Thanks granddad, that gives me an idea!" I yelled as a grin plastered itself onto my face. He smiled back and made some hand gestures as a glowing circle opened up in the air behind me. I looked over my shoulder one last time before jumping through the portal.
