Chapter five: Ladybug

Adrian POV
When Marinette walked into the throne room all I could think was I screwed up..... I really screwed up..... I couldn't even look her in the eye, I just mumbled,
"I'm sorry Marinette..." She jumped a little and I found myself smiling a little despite myself. My smile quickly vanished however when my father cleared his throat.
"My son tells me that he supposedly summoned you from another world young lady, is this true?" He asked in an almost friendly manner. Marinette nodded mutely and I bit my lip. My father's hand began glowing a dull purple color and out of the corner of my eyes I clearly saw the moth outline, he gestured towards her and I felt my body shift to face her.
"In that case I'm afraid that I can't allow you to live, Prince Noir if you'd be so kind." I fought back tears as my hand started to glow black and the words,
"Yes your majesty." Were forced from my throat. The last hope for Miraculous and I'm about to be forced by my own father to kill her...... I thought sullenly as I began to slowly approach her, motioning with my eyes for her to run. Instead she stood her ground just when I was close enough to her to use my power she placed a hand on my shoulder and said,
"You don't have to do this, you know that right? Any father who makes their child do something that makes them even half as miserable as you are now loses all parental obligation rights." I felt a warm feeling spread throughout my body from my shoulder and I noticed the glow around my father's hand change from purple to a clean, pure white. I stopped using my power and the glow around my hand subsided almost immediately as I felt all of my control return to me. I gave her a warm smile and placed my no longer glowing hand over her on my shoulder.
"Thank you my lady, I think I really needed to hear that." She blushed a little and mumbled that it was no big deal. I turned to my father who was beginning to look panicked as he tried to reactivate his powers.
"Father, if I may speak freely, you've seen what Ladybug can do first hand if you allow her to stay then it may be possible for us to finally save our home. Besides think about it, if she stays here the kingdom will have both the powers of creation and destruction on its side, we'll be unstoppable." He frowned as I said that but I saw the creases on his forehead smooth as he seemed to come to a decision. He looked from me to her with a greedy and almost cruel glint in his eyes and I almost regretted bringing her here, much less trying to convince him to let her stay.
"All right, since I can't threaten you with the loss of your free will and there will be no convincing you to send her back, if you even know how that is, I suppose I'll just have to compromise. As of this moment the two of you are to be married, that way we'll both get what we want: you'll no longer be free to do whatever you so wish and your precious Ladybug will get to stay. I'll hear no further of this matter, the two of you may leave." I gaped at him in pure utter embarrassment and horrified shock. M-marriage?! To....... I turned my head to look at a bright red Marinette. Oh nononononono I cannot just let him do this. I thought as I fought down my own blush.
"Father-" Marinette cut me off by shouting,
"NOW WAIT ONE SECOND! DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT YOU CAN JUST ORDER ME AROUND LIKE THIS?! FOR ONE THING I'M NOT FROM HERE AND COULDN'T CARE LESS IF YOU'RE THE KING, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO MARRY ME OFF! AND FOR ANOTHER THING I ALREADY HAVE A BOYFRIEND BACK HOME WHOM I ALREADY LOVE SO NO WAY AM I JUST GOING TO ROLL OVER AND DROOL JUST BECAUSE YOU MADE A 'FINAL DECISION', THE TWO OF US HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO WE END UP WITH ON OUR OWN IS THAT ENTIRELY CLEAR?!" Everyone in the room stared at the petite girl in front of us in a stunned silence, I ignored the slight pang in my chest after hearing her say she already loved someone and marveled at how brave she was to yell at my father. Her small frame heaved from the apparent exertion that her tirade required as my father visibly tried to understand what just happened. Then he did something terrifying, he started to laugh. He laughed so hard that he almost fell off of his throne. Once his laughter finally subsided he looked at Marinette with an appreciative grin and told her,
"The last person to tell me off like that was my wife Emilie, never in all my life did I ever even consider to think that she may have had a kindred spirit. Just this once I'll admit defeat my dear Ladybug, but next time I will not be so lenient." I stared at him and cautiously asked,
"So does that mean.....?" He nodded and announced,
"There will be no engagement, but Ladybug will be allowed to stay in the castle until she is found a way to return home." I grinned and turned to Marinette who was smiling for the first time since she'd arrived so far as I could remember. I immediately turned my head to look away and said,
"Well.... if that's all then I suppose Ladybug and I will be leaving." I bowed quickly and nodded for her to do the same. She awkwardly followed my example and we both turned to leave.
"Son," I froze mid-step and glanced over my shoulder at my father feeling more confused than I had in a very long time.
"Take care of her, she's likely to get into trouble." I nodded numbly and the two of us walked out. I glanced over at her and groaned internally. If her smile always looks like that, then I'm the one who'll be getting into trouble.... I thought anxiously as the two of us made our way down the hallway.
