South Pole

At the compound in the South Pole the new Avatar, Korra, is doing her Firebending training.

Korra: Whoo-hoo!

Korra runs up the three members of the White Lotus, her Firebending teacher, and and elderly Katara, who is smiling while the other four have stoic expression on their faces.

Korra: *stoked* Hey, what's with all the doom and gloom, people? We should be celebrating. Three elements down, one to go. 😁

Firebending teacher: You're getting ahead of yourself as usual, Korra. We haven't decided if you passed you firebending test yet.

White Lotus Leader: Ever since you were a little girl, you've excelled at the physical side of Bending, but completely ignored the spiritual side. The Avatar must master both.

Korra: I haven't ignored it. It just doesn't come as easy to me. But that's why I should start training with Tenzin immediately. He's "Mr. Spiritual".

White Lotus Leader: *to Katara* Do you believe she's ready, Master Katara?

Katara: *smiles* Yes. If anyone could teach her what she needs to learn, it's Tenzin.

White Lotus Leader: Very well, Korra. It's time for you to begin your airbending training.

Korra: *jumping for joy* Yes! Finally.

Korra realizes that the three White Lotus members, her Firebending teacher, and Katara are still looking at her. And although Katara is smiling, her others were not.

Korra: I mean... *clears her throat* *bows her head* Thank you all for believing in me.

She then runs off to the stables.

Korra: Naga, you should've seen it.

Naga is a large polar bear dog, who is just getting up.

Korra first met Naga years ago when she was a little girl. The fact that Korra and Naga are together is surprisingly fascinating, because it was thought that polar bear dogs were considered untameable. But Korra was not only able to earn Naga's trust, but the two formed an unbreakable bond.

Korra: I kicked some firebender butt, and I passed. *pets Naga* Tenzin will be here in a few days.

Naga proceeds to lick Korra's face, who giggles.

Later

Korra, now on Naga's back, stops at the gate of the compound, where she looks up at the guard.

Korra: Just taking Naga out for a stroll.

Guard: *scowls*

Korra: (-_-) Don't worry, we're not going far.

Soon, the gate opens. Naga starts to walk out the compound.

Korra: *smiles* Naga, go.

Naga begins to run.

Korra: That a girl. Go, go, go. 😃

Naga picks up the pace, and she runs faster while Korra smiles along for the ride.

Meanwhile in Republic City

It is currently nighttime in Republic City. At the dock of the city, members of the Triple Threat Triad are there to do their usual business, as in robbing a truck filled with stolen goods, like food, clothes, and other stuff like medicines. The three men that are taking the truck are Viper, Two-Toed Ping, and an earthbender.

Viper (the one in the middle) goes to check the supplies.

Viper: *smirks* Now these are some good--

But before he could finish his sentence, the large earthbender is launched into the air before crashing back down into some crates that wasn't too far from where they're standing.

Ping: *confused and shock* What the-

Two-Toed Ping is then knocked down by a boulder to the abdomen. His hands and feet are then wrapped in earth, keeping him in the ground. Viper exits he back and looks around to who the person was responsible.

Viper: WHO ARE YOU!? SHOW YOURSELF, YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!

But then, he is also thrown in the air. And crashes back down on the earthbender who was just recovering. After all three men are down, the person responsible is reveal to be...Chang, who gets inside the truck, starts the engine, and drives away.

Chang: *smirks* Too easy.

The slums

After taking the truck to the slums, Chang starts handing out the food and supplies to the poor and the homeless.

Woman: Thank you so much.

Man: Yes, thank you, young man.

Chang: *smiles* No need to thank me. Just happy to help.

Chang continues to hand out the stuff to everybody. While he was doing that, Feng is purring while getting his head petted by a little girl.

A few days later, The South Pole

Ikki: *hyperactive* Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? It looks like we're there. I know that this is very familiar. Are we here yet? Are we here yet? Are we here yet? Oh, please tell me we're here.

A sky bison lands near the compound. On the bison is a bald man, three children (one of whom is on his head), and a pregnant woman.

Tenzin: Yes, Ikki, as I've been telling you for the last 15 minutes, we are...finally here.

Ikki: *forms a air scooter* Whee!

The bald man known as Tenzin and his children, Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo dismounts. Tenzin walks up to Katara while the youngest of children, Meelo, is pulling on his ears.

Tenzin: Hello, mother. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you. *begs to his Katara* Please, help me.

Katara laughs and takes Meelo off Tenzin's shoulders.

Meelo: *flails his arms around* Unhand me, strange woman!

Tenzin: That's your grandmother, Meelo.

Meelo then flips out of Katara's hands and moves away.

Katara: *smiles warmly* It's so good to see all of you.

She then sees the oldest of Tenzin's children, Jinora.

Jinora: Gran Gran, I've been reading all about your old adventures. I've been dying to ask you, what happened to Zuko's mom?

Katara: Well, Jinora, it's an incredible tale--

Ikki: *hopping around* Gran Gran, you look old. How old are you? And why is it cold in the South Pole? Can we make a campfire and all huddle around it and tell scary stories and make snowmen? And then can we make the snowmen move with waterbending and chase us? Wouldn't that be fun? Huh? Wouldn't it? 😃

While Ikki is jumping up and down, and Jinora looking disappointed that won't know what happened to Zuko's mother, Tenzin turns around to see the pregnant woman, Pema, slowly going down the bison's tail.

Tenzin: *goes to Pema* Pema, let me help you. *helps her* Careful now. Careful.

Pema: Stop doting on me. I'm not helpless. *puts her hands on her belly* I'm just pregnant.

Katara walks up and embraces Pema, who also returns the gesture.

Katara: *places her hand on Pema's belly* The baby's strong. I see another airbender in your future.

Pema's smile then drops to a frown when hearing that.

Pema: All I want is one child like me, a nice, non-bender who doesn't blast wind every five seconds.

Meelo (off screen): Mommy, look.

Pema turns around to see Meelo covered in snow, before the latter airbends the snow off of him and on to Pema.

Pema: *shakes snow off he face* Were Tenzin and his siblings this crazy when they were kids?

Katara: Kya and Bumi certainly were. But Tenzin has always been...rather serious.

Tenzin: (-_-) Mother, please.

Tenzin spots Korra over Katara's shoulder.

Tenzin: Korra?

Korra smiles and goes up to Tenzin. Tenzin places both of his hands on the young Avatar's shoulders.

Tenzin: Look at you, so big and strong. You've grown into quite the young Avatar.

Korra: *enthusiastic* Master Tenzin, I'm so glad you're here. I can't wait to get started.

Tenzin's smile drops.

Tenzin: Yes, well... *sighs*

Pema: You're going to have to tell her sooner or later.

Korra: *confused* Wait, tell me what?

Katara: ........You're not staying, are you?

Tenzin: *sighs* I'm afraid not. We're only visiting for the night. Then I have to move to Republic City.

Korra then has a upset expressio.

Korra: But, no, you're supposed to move here. You're supposed to teach me.

Tenzin: I'm sorry, Korra. Your airbending training is going to have to wait.

Later

Korra, Tenzin, the White Lotus Leader are sitting at a table.

Korra: So, how long until you're ready to teach me airbending? A week? A month?

Tenzin: It could be much longer.

Korra: I don't understand. Why are you making me wait?

Tenzin: I have a responsibility to Republic City. I'm one of its leaders, and the situation there is very unstable right now.

Korra: But you also have a responsibility to teach me. Believe me, I'd be happy to find another airbending master, but you're the only one. We're stuck with each other.

Tenzin: I wish there were another way.

Then an idea pops into Korra's head.

Korra: Wait. There is. If you can't stay here, then I'll go back to Republic City with you. It's perfect.

White Lotus Leader: Absolutely not. The city is far too dangerous. Avatar Aang tasked us with keeping you safe while you mastered the four elements.

Korra: I get that, but I don't think keeping me locked up in this compound like a prisoner is what he had in mind.

Tenzin: I know that this is difficult to accept, but it's not the right time for you to come to the city.

Korra: *stands up and leaves* Whatever.

After Korra exits and closes the door, both men sighs.

Morning

Ikki: *waves to Katara* Good-bye, Gran Gran.

Tenzin: Oogi, yip yip.

Tenzin's sky bison, Oogi, takes off. As they left, Katara wipes her eye, saddened that her son, grandchildren and daughter-in-law had to leave. On top an icy cliff, Korra and Naga watches the bison fly away, back to Republic City. Korra lowers her gaze, then contracts her brows.

Later at night

Korra enters Naga's enclosure. She grabs a saddle and places it on Naga's back.

Katara (off screen): Nice night for an escape, isn't it?

Korra turns around to see that Katara is standing behind her.

Korra: I have to leave. I have to find my own path as the Avatar.

Katara smiles and nods her head in agreement.

Katara: I know you do. Aang's time had passed. My brother and many of my friends are gone. It's time for you and your generation to take on the responsibility of keeping peace and balance in the world. *places a hand on Korra's shoulder* And I think you're going to be a great Avatar.

Korra and Katara the embrace.

Korra: Thank you.

Katara: Good-bye, Korra.

Beyond the walls of the compound

Outside, Korra uses her waterbending to push the snow, so she and Naga can get through.

Korra's home

Korra is ten seen embracing her parents, who are in front of their igloo.

Korra: Mom, Dad, I'll miss you.

Senna: We love you so much.

Korra climbs back on Naga, and with one last look at her parents, she rides off.

Later

Now, Korra and Naga are a the cargo hold of the ship. Korra leans back on to Naga and smiles with her hands behind her head.

Back at Republic City

After a long day, Chang and Feng arrives to their home. An old abandoned building. The two lays down on a makeshift bed, consisting of and old mattress and a blanket. Before going to sleep, Chang has a look at the city.

Chang: You know, Feng, one day, we don't have to worry about food. We'll be rich. Live in a nice house. And just enjoy life.

Feng: *meow*

Chang puts out the candle, and soon falls asleep, form tomorrow is a new day for the young thief...with a heart of gold.
