Animal Cruelty

Unless this trope is essential to the story, animal cruelty can come across as a lame attempt to shock. During the first section of the game, Tails (Sonic's best friend), Tom's character during that point in the story, comes across various dead creatures. Among them are dismembered rabbits, eviscerated squirrels, and ducks without their eyes (plus slit throats).

I have nothing against gore per se, but I felt like the carnage in that scene was way too excessive. It also serves no purpose to the story's overall plot, and I feel like the author should have cut that part out.
