Chapter 16: A Mandatory Explanation

ahhh i'm back!! finally!!

sorry for the little hiatus guys!

(Annabeth's POV)

The entire camp knew about Hurricane Omega.

I mean, how could you not, when Hermes decided to show up in the middle of the campfire to announce it. Like, physically in  the campfire. During the campfire. It was a hot mess.

But anyway, the gods predict Hurricane Omega will take place in a week. When it was announced, the campers lost their crap (Sorry, typo. I meant Hera there).

Hecate kids were trying to strengthen the border as much as possible. Hephaestus and us Athena kids were busy building a ginormous base underground. The children of the Big Three were planning a way to control the storm. Aphrodite kids were babysitting and reassuring the younger kids. The Hunters were going to be here soon to help with preparation, and to bring Thalia to help her cousins.

Everyone had a job, usually in shifts. A while into the day, when I was off of my shift, I decided to talk to some of the legacies. Katie, Clarisse, Piper, Calypso, and Rachel came with me.Hazel was busy working with Percy, Jason, and Nico.

The base was being worked on when we went down there, as I suspected and demanded it should. It was going to be split up in rooms for each child of a god, like the cabins. There were going to be a row of bathroom stalls and showers, and then an area for eating, and that was about it.

The legacies were waiting in the part of the base that was already built. They were having a small conversation when Lara Jean pointed out we were coming over. The legacies waved, we waved back, and sat down with them.

I came here, not only to talk to my, well, kids, and not only to get answers, but also to give them  answers. "So, I bet you guys are still confused," I spoke up. They nodded unanimously, while the girls gave me looks of "I didn't know this  is why you wanted to see them. "Well. I'll give you answers if I get yours. If you guys agree."

"We agree," Zoelle said quickly, ignoring any other decisions. "Explain."

I gulped. And so, I started from the beginning. How Piper figured it out, how we met future Thalia, how we read her diary, how we went into the future, and how we went to Olympus for answers.

As I went on, their faces became more and more confused, then shocked, and I even saw Zoelle's eyes light up in thought.

"So, uh, who's my mom?" Marietta asked, and the group laughed.

"Um, Hazel is," Calypso nodded. "You know Hazel, right?" Marietta nodded and grinned toothily.

"Wait. But I'm fifteen. And you guys are all, like, fifteen though eighteen. That's, um, really  weird," Landon admitted.

"I know," I said. "You are  from the future, though. That's your mom, Clarisse." She smirked slightly and waved.

"Wait, really?" he asked. "Cool! My mom's awesome."

"Hell yeah, she is!" Clarisse cheered.

I explained the basics: who their moms and who their dads are. The legacies seemed to agree that it made sense. I swear, Luke, Zoelle, and Leah smiled a bit more when I told them Percy and I were their parents.

"So. Any questions?" I asked.

Luke raised his hand. "Um, Annabeth? What's gonna happen during Hurricane Omega?"

I looked at the girls and they shrugged with sad looks in their eyes. "We don't know, bud," Leah explained, affectionately stroking his hair.

We looked around at our bunch of kids. Luke was sitting in Leah's lap, and Zoelle was resting her elbow on Leah's leg. Lara Jean was leaning on Griffin, and Marietta was sitting on their legs. Meggie and Matt were sitting near Corey and Blake, and Bianca and Landon were sitting back to back.

"So. I want to know more about your memories. Um, we have some names you might remember," I said, looking to Rachel, and she looked down.

"Um," she scooted forward. "Does the name 'Amber Dare' ring a bell?"

The legacies collectively racked their brains, but Matt remembered quickest. "Amber!" he shouted. "She...I think she was my best friend. I remember...um..."

"It's okay, Matt," Katie reassured him. "You can do it." Meggie put a reassuring hand on his shoulder, too.

"Um, I remember...she was, um, really pretty," he blushed. "She had this bright red hair and these emerald eyes, and she had a lot of freckles."

Rachel listened carefully as he explained her missing daughter. Amber was described a lot like I would've described Rachel. Matt said she was ambitious and she got what she wanted by working for it.

"And I remember...Amber had this like, green mist thing..."

We gasped. A few legacies snapped and agreed with Matt, remembering Amber. "She had my powers," Rachel smiled faintly.

Matt continued on about Amber, making Rachel smile more and more. "I think she told prophecies," he decided.

"Yeah!" Zoelle volunteered. "Something about the Sacred Twelve?" The legacies nodded in agreement.

"Well, there's twelve of you," Piper offered. "I'm guessing you guys are the Sacred Twelve."

"We have more names," I spoke up. "Does 'Phoebe' ring a bell, too?"

"Yeah, um," Griffin muttered. "The name...it just...I can almost see a face. Like, this long black hair, crystal blue eyes-"

"Like Thalia," Katie commented. "Oh my gods.."

"I thought that Thalia said she died," Calypso said.

"Phoebe's dead?" Griffin asked. "I feel like...I think we were friends. We weren't together or anything, she was like...twenty years old."

I cracked the code. "I think Hera made it seem like she did die." I turned to the girls behind me. "Which means-"

"What about 'Juliette Ramirez-Arellano'?" Piper asked.

Leah and Lara Jean put their fingers on their temples, trying to remember. "I remember a Juliette Ramirez," Lara Jean suggested. "No Arellano."

"Well, describe Juliette," Katie said.

"She had glasses, this big thick brown braid," Leah started. "And-"

"Brown eyes. And Hispanic skin," Lara Jean finished. "I remember that she was fascinated with her past and heritage."

"And that's everyone," Calypso commented. "They're all alive."

"But there's one we don't know about," Rachel interrupted. "Have any of you heard of a 'Lana'?"

"Uh," Marietta raised her tiny hand. "Lana Underwood?"

My eyes widened. "Underwood? You mean-"

"Grover?" Katie interrupted. "And Juniper?"

"We have to let someone know," Clarisse decided.

I stood up. "Guys, we'll be back soon. An hour or two at most. Stay here," I ordered, and I ushered the girls out of the base.

"First, Reyna needs to know about Juliette," I said, and Piper raised her hand.

"I'll tell her," she volunteered, and I nodded.

"The rest of us need to go see the boys."
