When Raine’s eyes opened, she was in the middle of a burial procession.  She wore an all white muslin dress with white muslin robe on top. All around her were people dressed in white muslin while crying loudly as they continued to walk towards the ancestral grounds.  

“Scam, quickly tell me the ‘Last Dying Wish.’” Raine said as she bent her head down even more so no one would see that she wasn’t crying.  

The Li Clan was once a great clan.  One that served the Emperor throughout many generations.  However do to a ‘Revenge’ Transmigrater, the Li Clan fell into the Revenge Transmigrater traps and schemes, thus when they were accused of treason, their whole clan was annihilated.

All the men were killed, while the women became slaves.  Women were either sent to be slaves to other noble houses or sent to be slaves to the army.      

The Revenge Transmigrater had achieved her goal, she took revenge on those that looked down on her, those who bullied her, and those who caused her death. Now she is Empress, she could live the life she was meant to be living. Her family survives the crisis while their reputation and status rises along with her.   

As for Raine’s character, Li Na, she was the first daughter born from the legal wife, from the second house.  She was pampered and spoiled, however she was smart and talented. A quintessential noble young lady. She had just had her hairpin ceremony and her parents had engaged her to the son of their friend.  Although she had not met her future husband yet, she accepted the engagement arranged by her parents.

(A/N:  Hairpin ceremony: A ceremony in which a girl is now considered a woman/an adult and is old enough to get  married.)

The wedding plans were in place, until her Grandfather died of an illness. Her marriage was placed on hold for three years to mourn the passing of her Grandfather.  

During the burial procession, the city guards would surround the Li Clan, read the decree from the Emperor that declared the Li Clan’s treasonous acts.  The Li men were killed on the spot, while the women were tied up and separated.

Li Na was separated from her sister and mother and was taken to be a slave to serve the army.  There her life became a living hell. Due to her spoiled life, she didn’t know how to do anything.  She was constantly bullied by the other slaves and when she caught the eye of a soldier, she thought her days of hardship would be over.  However that soldier just passed her on to his brother soldiers and they used her body to their desire.

Li Na was trapped, but she endured, hoping to see her family one day. However when war broke out five years later, she died when the enemy soldiers broke through the army defenses, defeating their soldiers completely.  Li Na was hacked down by a soldier as she tried to run away to safety.

While dying, her ‘Last Dying Wish’ was to be an independent woman, one that did not have to rely on a man to live.  And to reunite her sister and mother.

“Damn Revenge Transmigrater.”  Raine swore in her head. “Why does she have to ruin a whole damn clan’s fate?  Couldn’t she achieve her goal without ruining the lives of so many?”

[Some system transmigrater doesn’t care about the lives of others, as long as they achieve success on their mission.]  

“Wait until I achieve success on my mission…”  Raine mumbled to herself.

[What are you planning?]  

“Nothing.”  Raine told Scam.  “Just thinking.”

[I have a bad feeling…]

Suddenly there were cries of surprise as the Li Clan was surrounded on all four sides.  The armored guards waited in silence until a young soldier and a carriage stopped in front of the burial procession.  

When the carriage curtain opened, the Head Eunuch of the royal palace alighted and in his hands is a red scroll.   Everyone in the Li Clan immediately knelt, seeing the Head Eunuch. Those that attended court knew that the Head Eunuch was the personal eunuch that served the King.  

The Head Eunuch opens the scroll once everyone knelt and begins reading it.  

“By command of the Emperor, on the fifth day of the sixth month of our Emperor’s reign, the Li Clan is hereby found guilty of treason against the crown.  All nine generations of Li Clan men are to be executed and the women to be slaves of this country. Some are to be slaves to noble houses, while some are to be sent as slaves to the army…”

Before the Head Eunuch could even finish reading the end of the decree, everyone began to panic and chaos ensued.  With a signal from the Head Eunuch, the soldiers began slaughtering the men.

Li Na’s mother and sister that was just beside her, were now seperated from her. There were people trying to run away, those that did try, were killed on the spot.  There were men trying to fight back, but without a weapon, they were easily defeated.

Over 100 people died that day and in the end, Li Na was on the opposite side as her living family.  She stood still as she was tied up, her eyes on her family as they cried out her name and tried to struggle out of their bondage.  Blood dyed the ground red, however Li Na was the only one who still had a pristine white muslin robe and her hair was perfectly in place.  Not a speck of blood or dirt was on her, which caused the others to look at her in awe.

The first daughter of the second house had nerves of steel.  Her act was seen as courageous and unyielding. Seeing her steady demeanor caused others to also calm down.  Li Na was quickly placed into a wagon with the others and taken away from the city.

Raine closed her eyes and leaned against the the next person.  She needed her strength and her wits about her if she was going to survive.  She began cultivating her Natural Magic, storing the magic inside of her. She was debating if she should escape now or continue on with the storyline of becoming a slave to the army.  

If Raine escapes now, she knew she could find a way to be independent and quickly succeed both missions, by buying Li Na’s  mother and sister’s slave contract. However, the war in 5 years would still happen and the outcome of Li Na’s life with her mother and sister would be unknown with the effects of war.  Should Raine leave right after succeeding the mission, Li Na would die and her family could end up anywhere.

Realizing that becoming a slave to the army is the only option where she could change the outcome of the war to guarantee her family’s quality of life.   Raine decides to stay on the wagon along with the other women from her clan.
