They ended the night early and General Shen made Weisheng walk her out.  The two of them walked side by side in silence as Weisheng stole glances at Linqin, as he did the whole day.  

He wanted to speak to her, but he didn’t know what to say and how to begin.  He never had any practice before so he didn’t know how to act around her. She was once his betrothed, however now she was considered a commoner.  With her unknown background, his family and his clan would never accept her. The only people who truly knew her background was him, his father, and his mother, but would they allow him to marry the first woman who caught his attention?  

He was the only son of the first family of the Shen Clan.  He had a lot of responsibility and burdens placed on his shoulders.  How could he pursue the woman who calls out for his heart, knowing how his clan members would look down on her and talk badly about her and his mother?

He was raised to always do the right thing for his family, for the people and for the Emperor.  And all of his life his family has groomed him to be an honorable gentleman. His father went to war, because he didn’t want his son to become a General like him.  His father wanted him to become a learned individual, who helped the Emperor with his knowledge and mind.

Now that he has grown up, serving the Emperor as a Minister of Ceremonies and Rites. He is stable in his career, carrying on the Shen name, but now he is old enough to marry and yet the first woman who caught his attention was his own betrothed.   

But because of what happened to her family, she was no longer considered honorable enough or worthy enough to be his wife, which placed him into a predicament.  

Should he do what his heart yearns for, or should he do what is right for his family and his clan.  By the time he noticed that they had reached the Shen Estate gates, Linqin stood in front of him with her back to him.  

“You do not have to think that I will hold my betrothal against you and force my way into your family.”  Linqin told him. “Li Na no longer exists. She died on the way to the border three years ago. Before you is Linqin.  Linqin only wishes to live a quiet life, providing for my family. Goodbye, Sir.”

With every step that Linqin walked away from him, his heart called out to her to stop.  His heart told him to run after her and hold her tightly in his embrace. Force her to stay by his side as they grow old together.  

But his feet stayed planted where he stood.  The sight of Linqin’s back was no longer there, but he stared at the same spot for a long time.  

Weisheng went back to his courtyard with heavy steps.  His heart and his duty fighting one another. His scrambled mind looked towards the wall that seperated Linqin from him and he went to the wall, looking over, for just one more glance at his betrothed.

Just one, he kept telling himself.  Just one more time.

When nightime came, he would sneak into her room and watch her sleep.  Her tired body never moved once as she slept. The peaceful face was so welcoming to Weisheng that he wanted to touch her, but he kept his hands to his side.  He feared she would wake up and would scream. Once that happens, he would have to either run away while fighting her guards, or claim her as his woman.

But he knew once he claimed her as his woman, his family and his clan would not acknowledge her as his legal wife and would never agree to her becoming one.  She would only be accepted as a little side concubine, but Linqin could never be a little side concubine for him. That title was a dishonor on her. The only title that she deserved, was his legal and only wife.  

Weisheng left before the sun rose and repeated his ways.  He would convince himself that he would only look over the fenced wall one more time, to gaze upon her.  Then at night he would visit her bedroom, watch her sleep and leave when morning came.

Everytime Weisheng left, Raine would open her eyes and smile up at her Scam System who hovered above her head in his transparent spherical form.

[You’re slag lover is a creeper.]

“My slag lover is also a peepin Tom.”  Rain agreed.

[Wonder how long he’ll wait until he comes crawling to your door to be with you.]  

“Wanna bet??”

[How can you make a bet on your slag lover that you love so much?!?]

“Just because I make a bet on him, doesn’t mean I love him any less or care about him any less.”  Raine corrected Scam. “We’re just betting to see how long of a creeper he can be. What’s so wrong about that?!”  

[I never thought I would say this, but I’m beginning to feel sorry for Lui Wei.]  

“Ah… he was always “your slag lover” when you mentioned him, but now you’re calling him by his name.  Does that mean that you finally acknowledge him, little Scam?”

[I pity him for being your slag lover and me for being your System]  

“Boo-hoo.  Cry me a river. Are you gonna bet or not?”

[Damn, Host!  Don’t know how to properly speak to someone!]  Scam pouted as he circled around Raine’s head. Raine could imagine him waving his fist at her.  [Fine! He’ll give into his impulses to claim you as his lover in two months.]

“Okay, I say he’ll give in to me 2 months and 1 day.”

[That’s just a day after two months!]  Scam System shouted. [What makes you think you’ll know the exact date he’ll give into his natural responses?]

“I just know, that’s it.”  

[You can’t use your succubus skills to make him confess his feelings to you!]

“I don’t play dirty and scam others, unlike you.”  Raine told him.

[That was a low blow, Raine!]

“Did it hurt your feelings?”  

[I don’t have feelings for you to hurt.]

“Then what are you complaining for!?”  

[Arghhh!  Since when has it been so hard to speak to you?!?]

“Since you entered my life and scammed me into being a ‘Last Dying Wish’ transmigrater.”  

[I saved your life! You ungrateful human!  Hmmmmph! Don’t bother me for the next few days, just speaking to you makes me mad!]  

Scam disappeared in an instant, too bad he didn’t see Raine’s smile as she looked at the place where he once was.  Raine stretched her body and snuggled into the blanket. It was just as fun to tease her slag of a lover, just like it was fun to tease her Scam System.  Scam System just didn’t get it.
