Since Raine was the only one who was sitting down, she was the only one who stood up to bow to the King as he entered the room.  Instead of following the rules, Bai Yu runs towards Lui Wei, tears falling down her face.

Bai Yu frowns when, instead of Lui Wei opening his arms out to hug her and comfort her, Lui Wei stared sternly at her, making her stop immediately.  

What happened to her Lui Wei? Why did he look at her that way?  He ever looked at her that way before, why is it that he did it today and in front of everyone?  Why? What hurt her feelings even more was that he didn’t even acknowledge her. He walked pass by her, and took Queen Ame’s hand and helped her up!  

Bai Yu cried silent tears as Lui Wei help Queen Ame sit down before letting everyone else sit.  

“Lui Wei!”  Bai Yu shouted in desperation.  

Just seeing Lui Wei sitting next to someone else that wasn’t her made her heart hurt so much.  It felt as if there was a stone stuck inside of it and weighed her shoulders down as her lips pouted.  Bai Yu’s tears couldn’t stop falling. Lui Wei ignored her tears. He ignored her sadness.

“Lui Wei….” Bai Yu whispered.  

Raine looked at the two face woman begging to be noticed and comforted.  Begging to be spoiled and begging for his love. Raine looked to her right and saw that the King was angry.  His fists were tightened so much that veins were popping out.

“Kneel.”  Lui Wei ordered.   

Bai Yu’s eyes looked down for a moment, as if her whole world shattered.  Her tears fell down even faster as she bit her lip and kneeled. Her shoulders shook and her body shivered.  

“L- Lui.. We… you… must bring j-justice to B-Bai Yu.”  Bai Yu mewed out through her crying.

“Silence!”  Lui Wei commanded icily.  His stare tightened and his frown dipped deeper.  

Bai Yu was a commoner and did not grow up knowing the rules to become a noble lady, she did not know what she did wrong and why Lui Wei was treating her so bad.  

Raine’s face held no emotions in her features.  It was a blank mask as Lui Wei quickly looked at her before looking at his childhood love.  His heart hurt to see her crying, however what he hated most were people who he cared about, that made him look bad in front of others.  

By not bowing to him when Bai Yu saw him, by not calling him King, by not acting like a Noble Concubine, by showing disrespect to his Queen, by showing her insolence and talking back to Queen Ame in front of everyone, by threatening Queen Ame with his power and authority, by outright lying to him so he could protect her from Queen Ame.

Everything that Bai Yu did, made him lose face in front of others.  Especially since she is he favorite woman. Lui Wei sigh softly not letting others see how disappointed he was of Bai Yu.  He truly pampered and spoiled Bai Yu too much, causing her to act this way. Now that he is King, she should learn how to act like a Noble Consort instead of a common woman.  

“There is no justice to be uphold, for there was nothing to bring justice to.”  Lui Wei said as he looked at his crying woman. He harden his heart not to go to her.  This would be a learning lesson for her. “What Queen Ame said is right. There are laws that we all must follow and should those laws be broken, punishment should be given.  Your punishment will be as Queen Ame says.”

Bai Yu looked up to Lui Wei in surprise.  He actually took Ame’s side!?! How could he do this to her?  He loved her the most. Her heart broke even more as Lui Wei waved his hand.  

Bai Yu’s maid came forward and helped her stand up.  Bai Yu bowed and left quietly, however every couple of steps she would stop and look back at Lui Wei as if to see if he would undo his words.  As if he would run up to her and embrace her and tell her he was wrong. However Lui Wei did not look at her at all. Instead he was looking at Queen Ame.  He was holding Queen Ame’s hand.

When Bai Yu finally walked out of the inner room, Bai Yu felt a fire of hatred burn brightly inside of her heart and ran wild in her veins.  If it was the last thing she would do, she would make Queen Ame feel the same kind of pain she was feeling at the moment. “Now that everyone is here, pay attention to the back palace rules, I would also like to amend one of those rules.”  Raine said as she looked to each concubine and at Noble Consort Mei Ran. “Every day, it is a custom for you all to greet this Queen when the sun rises.  I find this unnecessary and tedious, from this day forth, you will greet me every three days instead.”

Lui Wei’s right eyebrow rose with a questioning surprise.  Why would Ame suddenly change the back palace rules?

“Is there any grievances that you have that you would like to speak up about?” Raine asked softly and steadily as if she cared.  

When no one spoke up, they were quickly dismissed by Lui Wei.  However as the concubines left, some of them kept looking back at him, just like Bai Yu.  However to these unfavored concubines, they looked back at him because they do not know when they will have a chance to see him again.  They will not know when they will have a chance to win his favor.

“Look at them, my King.”  Raine said as the concubines slowly exited her receiving room.  “You have so many beautiful flowers in your back palace, so many that want to shine brightly for you.  You should look upon them once in a while. For their beauty is fleeting like their youth, once gone, they can never get it back.”  

Lui Wei’s eyebrows scrunched together.  He came here to spend time with his Queen wife, and yet she’s telling him to spending with others!?!  Shouldn’t she feel happy that he graced her with this presence?

“In regards to Noble Consort Bai Yu.  This Queen knows that you favor her above the rest.  However, she is no longer a commoner, but your Noble Consort. She should know the back palace laws and follow them well.  Should another dignitary see how your beloved Noble Consort behaves, it will bring us all dishonor and shame.” Raine reminded him.  “This Queen did not do this out of malicious intent.”

“This King knows.”  

“This Queen had tolerated Noble Consort Bai Yu’s behavior to give face to King Husband, however she needs to learn the Four Womanly Virtues as well as the laws of the back palace.  King Husband needs to explain to Noble Consort Bai Yu that this is for her own good. This Queen fears that if this Queen tries to explain it to her, she would cry wolf and say that this Queen is bullying her.”  

“This King will do as Queen Wife says.”  

“That is good then, this Queen Wife does not need to worry then.”  Raine said as she stood up. “Will King Husband be accompanying this Queen for a while, or does King Husband have something important to attend to?”  

Lui Wei took Ame’s hand and walked her outside.  

“This King will accompany you for a walk.”  

Raine smiled slightly at Lui Wei and nodded her head.  But secretly she didn’t care for the man. He was just like any other powerful man.  They all cared about respect and reputation. Should they be disrespected or have their reputation compromised, they will do anything and say anything to ensure everyone knows who they are.  And that their seat of power belonged to them.

As they walked around the beautiful garden, they did not say a word to each other.  Their only form of contact was the hand they held on to. To Lui Wei, the hand he was holding, felt warm and fresh.  As for Raine, the hand she was holding, felt stifling.

Raine looked around the garden and saw two large man made mountain, smiling she quickly lead him towards the mountain.  

“What is it my Queen Wife?”

Raine leaned closer to Lui Wei’s ear and whispered a few words.  

“Order the others to stay back and not bother us.”  

The corner of Lui Wei’s mouth curved up as he turned away to give the order.  Raine pulled his hand and lead him between two man made mountains.

“My Queen Wife?”  Lui Wei asked as he let her pull him.  

Suddenly he was pushed into the side of the mountain.  Her lips landed hotly on his lips as she teased him.
