Chapter 46: Cupid Survived?!!!

"Aaaaaaaah!" Amber, Mia and I are squealing in excitement, the 50 karat diamond ring is sparkling so beautifully on Mia's now occupied ring finger.

She's been hiding her hand all this time, just to pick the right time to tell us.

Tiny emerald stones curl around the large gem making it look like a really expensive flower.

Zac has out done himself this time.

"Ladies, this is the fifth time you've done that." Asher remarks looking at us seriously.

We sigh at the same time recovering from our girlish out burst.

"The cafeteria is also getting annoyed." He continues, he leans forward really glaring at us.

Jeez kid, looks like you woke up on the wrong side of bed, what's up with him?

Zac holds Mia close very proud of the outcome of his proposal last night.

He took her to her favorite beach, it's on a beautiful island in the Caribbean.

Pretty extra but damn the ring is gorgeous.

"Please ladies contain your excitement." He continues.

"Asher don't rain on our parade please." I say irritated by his repeated complaints.

He smiles wildly and I know he's about to do something only Asher would do.

"Don't you think it's a little rude to celebrate without me? You're not doing it properly. Ahem." A series of coughing and throat clearing follows.

He straightens his tie and unleashes the loudest, pitchiest scream I have ever heard.

We all cover our ears including the entire student body as his deafening scream fills the now silenced room.

Five or six seconds pass and it finally stops.

We earn intense glares from hundreds of pissed off hormonal teenagers.

Even Tony, the friendly guy from the Italian mob's giving me looks.

"Hey, this is a celebratory moment! Don't be jealous now!"

Ryan yells at the commentators as he approaches us.

Applause follow his demanding voice, cheers too.

Well...half of the people here are scared of Zac and respect Ryan very much but this is awkward.

Ryan just...he announced something upbeat.

Publicly...

What the hell's going on?

He sits down next to me and without taking his eyes off mine, takes a sip of my milkshake.

"What are you doing?"

He pecks on my lips his grin and eyes widening saying, "What? Can't I be happy for my best friend? He's getting married to the love of his life!"

I narrow my eyes but try brushing it off.

"Alright." I say to keep the peace.

I'm not the only one that's suspicious.

Everybody else just went from chill to 'what the hell has he been up to?' in seconds.

"Just shake it off." He says motioning to our curious glares.

This is weird but I'm not letting this ruin such a wonderful moment.

"So, when are we coming to the graduation?" Amber asks changing the subject.

Mia looks clueless, then she frowns...she's processing it, and ding!

She understood it.

"Oh...of our kids? I don't know." She glances nervously to Zac who's grinning like an idiot.

"Soon." He replies.

Ooo.

He earns a hard smack on his chest but they quickly intertwine fingers.

"Aww...love isn't dead after all." Asher remarks gushing over this sight.

"Really? How'd Cupid survive my massive tow truck last year?" I ask.

"I gave him mouth to mouth resuscitation."

"Ew, Ashley no." That is gross, the image of him kissing a splattered fat baby.

"Why do you call me Ashley?" He asks pouting.

"Your name is weird. Asherrrrr...it's so close to Ashton but because of your feminine behavior and because I like it, I call you Ashley."

He slouches in his seat clutching his chest, his heart I guess.

"I'm loved, at least I know that we share something beautiful pancake."

I love Asher unconditionally and the others too........................ but him more.

He's so adorable and kind and fun, he's there online when everybody else leaves me.

He gets me more than the others, he's just like an older brother I never had.

Ready for combat whenever or before a food fight breaks out.

That's our motto.

"Yeah, Ready for combat?" I ask trying to confirm his memory, he forgets some things.

"Always, food and war." He finishes.

"You two should get married!" Amber states sarcastically and crossing her arms pulls her lip forming an adorable pout.

We both burst out in laughter, the thought of us getting married is so ridiculous.

"Sweety we're pretty much siblings, you're the only one I'll spend days and months on looking for the perfect engagement ring for." He says touching his nose to hers.

She smiles up at him and pecks him on the lips snuggling in closer to him.

All this love is overwhelming, I finally get what people keep saying...love really is in the air.

Ryan's hands intertwine with mine on his thigh and I rest my head on his shoulder feeling him breathe softly.

Here I'm safe with him, worry free for now.

My time with him for the past few weeks has been amazing, waking up next to him every morning, breathing in the bittersweet scent of his being is so refreshing.

It's become a habit that we play a game before sleeping, two nights ago it was hide and seek, I found him in three minutes hiding in the kitchen.

The rules are: the winner kisses the loser.

Awesome rule on both sides if you ask me.

His voice is velvety and he's so patient with me, so kind even when I hit him playfully.

I think it's finally safe for me to fall into his arms and go a little too far one night.

This is pure ecstasy.

I don't want this euphoric feeling to leave me, ever.

What's this feeling called?

A loud bang startles me as a huge book falls on the table disrupting our peace.

"Hey bitches!" The screeching banshee has arrived.

She earns deathly glares and growls from all of us, her white pointy teeth bared at us in a sinister smile.

"Somebody call Lucifer, one of his mutts got loose." I say clutching my knife underneath the table.

She scoffs and looks deep into Ryan's eyes, her blue eyes glassy like she's hungry.

"Baby! When are we getting hitched?!" She screeches, her voice is nerve wracking.

Wait...what did she just say.

Ryan takes his hand and slams it on the table and says agitated, "Brandy get away from here."

She tilts her head to the side saying, "Did you dump me? When? Oh, please don't tell me that you left me for the walking trash bag sitting suspiciously close to you."

"Bitch say that again I dare you!"

She really hasn't learnt her lesson from my last lecture has she?

"Get the fuck away and leave me alone before I crack your skull to a million pieces!" He says standing up angrily, towering over her.

She looks straight up at him grinning wickedly.

"You haven't told her?" Told me what?

That she has kale stuck in between her teeth?

He glances at me nervously and shakes his head staring her down once again.

"BRANDY leave now!" He shouts gritting his teeth.

"Ryan, if you're going to break a girl's heart don't let her down by inches."

And with that she flips the mop on her head and exits.

Break who's heart?

What's going on? Why was Ryan spooked for a second?

I am so confused.

He sits back down and turns to me like he's thinking of a response.

He scratches the back of his neck nervously avoiding eye contact.

He never avoids eye contacts...should I be worried?

"Brandy and I...we used to date..."

I interrupt him not wanting to hear any more.

"I get it, you used to date and she's just a nuisance. I get it."

I totally get it, I've heard of plenty situations like these.

In Wattpad books of course.

They are my reference books.

I notice the stares coming from the others but they quickly change to other directions.

Okay?

"Okay."

I let him wrap his arm around me pulling me into his warm chest.

I need to forget about this, this moment is short and too precious.

There's nothing to worry about.

Everything's fine -

Well forgetting the fact that my ex is sitting two tables away from us, staring at me.

"Are you okay?" Mia asks disrupting my haunted thoughts.

I nod, "Yep."

I look back and notice that he's gone.

Here we go again.
