Prolouge

Cancer, huh? Well, to be expected.

I was rushed to the hospital after I suddenly collapsed, and that's when I found out. I had lung cancer. No, that's wrong, I just had cancer. That was when they gave me a year to live.

"Me Midnight, what shall I do?" The fat black cat sat on my lap, purring. I stroked the soft fur and sighed. "My parents told me to drop out of school, take the chance to do whatever I want, but, I don't know, I don't want to go like that. I don't want anyone to know, so I turned my parents down, against their wishes.

I mean, I understand that this must hurt them a lot, but they have another child. What's wrong if one dies? I'm not the best at anything and I have about two friends. Well, had. One died in a car accident and the other commuted suicide about a week ago. So, nope, no friends.

"It's January now, so it should be December or January of next year when I die." I should be more worried, maybe terrified. But death never seemed that bad. A new path to go down, a new book to begin. I get off my chair and grab my wallet and jacket, bundling up. "Might as well go to the library. Maybe I'll figure out my wish soon.

With this in mind, I embraced the cold and walked to the library, my green eyes squinting at the cold and my brown hair being blown by the harsh wind. I didn't mind really. It made me feel alive when every nerve was tested. I made it to the library and headed to the used book store, they always had somethings interesting. Unfortunately, my mother works here.

"Romeo, you should be at home." She frets as I browse the books.

"I know you love me mom, but I'm an adult, how I choose to do things is up to me." I grab the fault in our stars and scrunch my nose. A book about cancer and romance. Never happens in real life.

"Maybe you'll beat this." She suggested positively.

"I know I won't. While I feel completely fine, I know I'm a ticking time bomb. So, I'll live my life how I see fit. If this involves me attending school, than so be it." I end up being a whole bunch of realistic fiction novels and a few romance ones.

"Really?" My mother held up on if the books. To Kill a Mockingbird. "You already have ten copies of this book."

"I like it." She sighed and rang up my books. I then went to the upstairs section of the library, but, as I was climbing the stairs, I unfortunately was knocked down by some idiot.

"I am so sorry!" I glared at the man seeing a guy about a year older than me with blond hair and blue eyes.

"Don't worry about it, life is too damn short to hold grudges." I sigh.

"You expecting to die soon or something?" He jokes.

"Yes." I roll my eyes and continue upstairs, his eyes watching me as I go. And this is the start of some stupid bullshit romance.
